DATING DORSODURO 750 – Beauty from Aprilia!!!

Born in Italy, Aprilia is a small unit of Piaggio that manufactures the successful scooter, Vespa. Aprilia however, is a race winning sports bike unit. The world had witnessed the legendary sports bikes; the RSV Mille (1000 cc’s of brutal power that comes from a V-twin Super bike, the that rolled out of Aprilia’s manufacturing unit and not to forget the RSV4 .

Who wouldn’t want to hear it roar right?

Sounded to me like a tiger roaring away to glory.

One of the recent stunning bikes from Aprilia was the Dorsoduro 750. The name Dorsoduro means “Hard Back” or something that is really tough and strong by nature. These elements have been incorporated in the 750. Being aggressive yet holding a charm, the 2013 Aprilia 750 has been in my attention radar for quite some time. Let’s take a look at the bike’s features and its worth on Indian Roads.

THE BIKE:

Aprilia had given the Dorsoduro 750 a contemporary beginning. The all new 750 was brawnier than its previous cousins and received a new engine upgrade apart from the normal discernible features. A strong built complemented with nimble reflexes made the Dors d-750 a sagacious possession.

Techno savvy much?

FEATURES:

The 90 Degree V twin liquid cooled Engine is mated to the bike and it has four valve heads, double overhead cam. The bike has an electronic fuel injection system with state of the art injectors. Various light weight materials contribute to the diet friendliness of the bike such as; modular steel trellis, aluminum alloy frame etc.The forks are fully adjustable, the biker feels safe and confident on this majestic 750 cc beast. It brings you closer to the Aprilia’s world of racing.

MODES:

There are three different performing modes that the rider can choose from; Sport, Rain and Touring. These modes can be controlled with a dedicated switch that is found on the handlebar. The touring mode allows a smooth riding capability which helps the rider cruise at ease, the Sports mode makes you go insanely fast and the Rain mode allows you to gain control over wet and slippery roads.

INSTRUMENTATION:

The Dorsoduro has a combination of analog and digital instruments that receive the data over a CAN line which helps in the diagnostics and hence it is rightly named Matrix instrumentation. The instruments are ultra compact and stick to the bike’s persona (light weight and absolutely efficient) Even the LED tail light has been focused on. The backlight appears white in the analog area while it burns red in the digital area and the levels of brightness can be adjusted accordingly. The handle bars are also very efficient; Aprilia has fitted Dual Taper Anodized Aluminum Handle Bars that resemble those used in the racing super motards.

PRICE:

Although the Dorsoduro 750 isn’t officially available in India, the 2013, the bike costs about US $ 10,000/- (around Rs. 6 lakhs)

It would be a sure shot hit in India considering its power and features.

BOTTOMLINE:

A sturdy bike with a steady brain and a lot more to look forward to than the previous models. Hoping for the 750 to make its appearance in India.

Electric Micro super car- an overview

The usage of the conventional sources of energy like coal and petroleum is growing at a rapid rate and since they are perishable, the world would finally end up with no more such resources. The majority is being used in the transport sector. On- road vehicle population is increasing rapidly and is expected to grow higher and higher. Thus there is a need of  driving vehicles by using resources like bio fuels, electric drive, solar energy and many more.

Electric Micro Super Car:

In one such initiative by EU(European Union) an electric micro super-car concept has been developed. This concept is a product of three years, million dollars of investment between industry and academia along with lot of hard work form the designers team. Electric cars are powered by energy from batteries and which are further charged by power generated by power plants. Thus these vehicles are also not completely clean because pollutants are released during electricity generation.

The electric micro super-car concept is an all green car as it is powered by solar energy. The project named P-MOB is focused on development of light weight electric vehicles with harvesting of solar energy for mobility and  low aerodynamic drag. The vehicle is designed considering the urban driving conditions.

Electric Micro Super Car

The vehicle is a three seater, solar powered with a mass less than 600 kg without batteries pack.    It has top speed of 100 kmph and fully charged battery range of 100km. However when powered by solar energy alone, it can manage 20 km based on testing done on Fit test tracks in Italy. 20 km distance is found to be more than the average distance by daily commuters in Europe.  This makes it suitable for short city drives and will not be able to cope up with the long highway drives. It has a kinetic energy recovery system during braking and is claimed to have 30 percent less aerodynamic drag when compared to the vehicles of same class. The little car has a good deal of style, four wheel drive, good handling and swift acceleration.

The vehicle is made from a low-cost tubular steel frame with sheet metal forming in order to comply with the crash worthiness based on regulations. It has two doors on one side which makes it safe and ergonomic for passengers. In order to make it compact, the designers have installed an integration system technique which simultaneously works with several operating systems like magnetic controls, solar cells and power management devices. The system allows two motors and two differentials to function simultaneously for achieving four wheel drive capability. It also helps in providing better control on sharp turns, higher grip in wet and icy road conditions, faster acceleration without drawing large  power.  In this type of vehicle’s where the output power is small such integration system  helps in the energy management of the vehicle. Mono-crystalline solar cells with self control systems are installed.

The self control helps in compensating for the shadow falling on the vehicle. The solar panels are installed on the vehicle roof and windshields under an area of around 2 square meters. The panels have smart diodes to minimize energy loss during low light conditions. The concept also showcases the distribution of the battery modules. The photo voltaic can be used to power front axle motors and the batteries for rear axle. The batteries (8 kg pack)can also be swapped very easily for driving only over solar power. With minor changes the vehicle can comply with the regulations for micro electric vehicles as well as for M1 vehicle category. Such concepts are being seen as business booster’s by manufacturers. All the concepts of this vehicle are patented.

BOTTOM LINE:

Electric micro super car’s have met the safety aspects, lowest footprints, very low energy usage, which would make this vehicle ideal for urban roads. Green vehicles definitely have the potential of taking a large share of automotive markets across the globe. They will be supported by the subsidy from the respective Government authorities of every country.

In India, the government has a plan of National electric mobility mission plan which will provide a subsidy of around 14, 000 crores for electric vehicles. Thus there is huge potential of business in this range of vehicles. At present intensive research is going on to find the ways for future mobility. All this is because we are getting depleted of the conventional resources at a fast phase.

Maruti Ciaz is truly a marvel !

Maruti Ciaz

Maruti Suzuki is known for its reliability ranging across all its automobiles. Although, the recent launch of “Kizashi” had been a bit disappointing  ( because of the huge variation between the Concept Kizashi and the actual one that rolled out on Indian roads ) However, the latest news indicates that Maruti might discontinue its currently successful model SX4 towards the end of 2014 and roll out the new and revised replacement named Maruti Ciaz.

Ciaz made its first appearance at the 2014 Auto Expo and the Launch is expected in the last quarter of 2014.

[caption id="attachment_1713" align="aligncenter" width="560"]Maruti Ciaz Image Source: www.zigwheels.com[/caption]This shorter version of the SX4 is going to share a few similarities but the difference is going to be obvious. The Ciaz concept might have the looks and curves to drool for and it might look aggressively slender and creased with a lot of chrome, the real impact would be realized when the actual models roll out (Sigh!! how i wish there were limited edition concepts rolled out in the market)Rumored to have the bits and bobs of the Ertiga... Ciaz seems to have an adaptation from plenty of its cousins such as the SX4, Swift and Ertiga. Maruti has such similar elements and design aesthetics mated into its anticipated Ciaz making it worth the festive wait.INTERIORS:A beige colored interior might bring the interiors of the Ertiga to mind, however considering a makeover, Maruti is definitely going to focus on new and improved interiors. The supposedly premium interiors would sport an ergonomic design enough to accommodate 3 people comfortably.
[caption id="attachment_1711" align="aligncenter" width="630"]Maruti Ciaz interiors Image Source: www.motortrend.in[/caption]ENGINE:Although Maruti hasn't declared anything about the exact technicalities or the specifications, the sedan would be launched in petrol and diesel options. The Ciaz might be available in 5 speed Automatic and base Manual models. Powered with a 1373 cc petrol engine, and 93.7 bhp at 6000 RPM ranging to 130 Nm at 4000 RPM, the Ciaz certainly churns out decent power packed to perform. Getting started with the engine and powering it up wouldn't really be concerning. The 1.3 litre multi jet DDiS Diesel engine would perform with an attitude of its own, it might produce power ranging between 103- 290 Nm to 118 Bhp-300 Bhp. It is believed that the engine might be transversely positioned such that the front wheels are powered. The variants will supposedly have 15 inch and 16 inch rims (depending on the variant)MILEAGE:One of the most sort out questions ever. What's the mileage?Well, based on the performance of the Ertiga, it can be anticipated that the Ciaz petrol should provide 15- 16 kmpl mileage (depending on the model) whereas, the diesel model should provide a mileage of 21-23 kmpl which goes far beyond ones expectations over such a sedan.

REVVING IT UP:

The 5-speed manual 1.4 litre petrol engine that reaches 0-100 in 13 seconds, would get you across an average of 150 km(per hr). The diesel engine however, would get you across the same (0-100)  in 12 seconds and can range from 170-175 km(per hour)
[caption id="attachment_1712" align="aligncenter" width="670"]Maruti Ciaz body Image Source: www.techgangs.blogspot.com[/caption]The rear lights certainly look similar to the 5 series BMW lights. Impressive!!!ACCESSORIES:If you are waiting for the Ciaz, then Maruti is certainly not going to disappoint you. Providing an array of accessories, you can easily deck up your ride. You can choose from the following: Deck-lid spoiler, Body decals, revolutionary alloy wheels, roof rails etc. The upholstery can also be customized according to your choice. You'd be musically inclined too, the Ciaz would keep music a priority with a music system and features such as Bluetooth and multimedia options. The top end variants would sport A/C climate controls. The Steering would consist of an audio control panel, the car would also have a cooled glove box, and door pockets. You might also spoil yourself with Luxurious Leather seats (optional)BRAKES AND HANDLING:Maruti might grace Ciaz with the dynamic duo combination of its Conventional Disc and a Drum Brake. The front wheels might have ventilated disc brakes while the rear wheels would have drum brakes. The Ciaz would come with new features like the ABS and EBD which would enhance braking in tough conditions.SAFETY:Safety and security is going to be a priority. The Maruti Ciaz might contain a robust suspension mechanism that would give rise to perfect handling conditions. Loaded with a front Mc Pherson Strut system and a Rear Torson Beam rear axle fitted with coil springs, the sedan has a lot more offerings such as air bags, engine immobilizer, side impact beams and a central locking system.COMPETITION:As the anticipation goes, Maruti Ciaz might be available in petrol variants such as LXi, VXi and ZXi whereas the diesel variants would be available in LDi, VDi and ZDi variants. We can expect Maruti Suzuki to price it competitively. It might compete against the Honda City, Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala in the sedan segment.BOTTOM LINE:If you were a fan of the SX4 and if the concept has kept you waiting then, waiting for the roll out of the Maruti CIAZ would certainly be a wise decision. And if you are an impulsive buyer, you can choose between its competing models.

Lamborghini Huracan – HURRICANE ON THE ROADS!

Lamborghini is probably the first  “L” word that comes out of super car lovers (me included) when asked about their favorite super car brand.  I am pretty sure many hearts must have been broken post the “Delhi Valet Parking incident”

The respectable brand that is owned by Audi is known for its legendary super cars. We might have had the chance to drive one of these cars in a game and yes definitely in our dream. Some of us might have heard a Lamborghini roar away to glory and a few of us might have even had a chance to sit behind the wheels and take this mighty bull for a spin.

Lamborghini Commercial:

Headquartered at Sant Agata, Lamborghini is known to always accentuate its luxury on wheels. Some cars that have been rolled out include: Gallardo, Murcielago, Diablo, Miura, Countach etc. Each and every name that has been engraved in Lamborghini’s history has always exuded sheer flamboyance. Simply revving the engine reinforces raw brutal power prepared to conquer roads.

Indian’s have greeted Lamborghini and Murcielago with pride. If you have deep pockets and you’re looking for something cutting edge. There is certainly good news for you.

August 2014 is going to be a happy month for Indian Lamborghini fans. The newly designed car “Huracan” is all set to storm the Indian roads. India is becoming a super-car hub with ever increasing enthusiasts burning their pockets deep just to get the taste of speed.

According to Stephan Wilkelmann (global CEO Lamborghini), Lamborghini sales was quite good during 2013. A total of 22 cars were sold in India [We’ve all seen one in Delhi ;)] and the global sales was quite lucrative too. A total of 2121 cars were sold globally in the year 2013.

Gallardo has set a benchmark in Indian super car history after being labeled the most successful super car. Now it’s time for its successor Huracan to rage the roads.

Although the Indian sales aren’t a big achievement, India (out of four destinations) is on Lamborghini’s production radar. (Let’s hope that happens)

Making its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, the Huracan has had various love struck eyes glued on to its unique design and more so, its raging power. The Gallardo has been quite successful all over the world, the Lamborghini Huracan carried on the legacy with 1000 pre-orders globally even before the car’s official debut.

THE HURRICANE ON WHEELS:

The Lamborghini Hurracan is definitely a speed demon covering 0-100km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds with the help of its smart 7-speed automatic gearbox riveted to its 5.2 liter V10 engine that is hand built.

Power comes in 2 versions with the Lamborghini Aventador taking the lead with massive raging bulls under its hood followed by the Huracan (a worthy replacement of the Gallardo)

WHAT’S NEW:

The Lamborghini Huracan is nimble, and comfortable than the previous members of the Lamborghini family. The Huracan is all about being modish. The chassis in the Huracan is about 10% lighter than the Gallardo. The materials used such as Carbon-fibre, Light weight aluminum, and reinforced plastic make the hybrid chassis a stunner. At the heart of the Huracan is a massive 5204cc engine waiting to prance.

Being a smaller member of the Lamborghini family, the Huracan has a 10-cylinder unit, which is smaller than 12 cylinders on the Aventador.  The Huracan’s full name is Huracan LP 610-4 – meaning the 620 Bhp beast has the power on all the four wheels but, the rear wheels get more power. The Huracan produces 560 Nm torque at 6500 RPM. The beast gets thirsty for fuel every 5.68 km (approx 5.68 km per litre)

The Lamborghini Huracan is thus your everyday car. It is built for your everyday dose of fun. Be it a racetrack or your friend’s residence. Be it your business or a driving to be at the life of a party. The Huracan is always your companion on the go. It is definitely a Lamborghini, but it is unlike any Lamborghini that has ever rolled out.

 PRICE

The most essential model by Lamborghini is the Huracan. Lamborghini is trying to crunch some serious numbers by rolling as many Huracans as possible. Although, in comparison it is cheaper and less powerful than the Aventador.

Lamborghini Huracan price

The Huracan will be made available in India from a price ranging from 3-3.50 Crores (only 🙂 )

COMPETITORS:

The friendly bull might face competition from Aston Martin V12 Vantage Coupe (2013) ferrari 458 Italia (2013) or the new Mc Laren 12C (2014)

BOTTOM LINE:

Lamborghini Huracan is allegedly the least pricey of all Lamborghini’s.  India might host the production of these mini bulls. Let’s hope we see them on our streets soon  🙂

Kawasaki Z800- an Overview

“Big bikes means big cost” , more the power you desire more it is going to cost you – oh yeah ! It is amazing to witness the ever growing  number of multi-cylinder bikes in the Indian market. There is one thing common with  all these multi-cylinder bikes though , they come with a huge price tag !  😐

Kawasaki have their reputation to be considered, they manufacture the meanest and most desirable super bikes world wide . This Japanese mean machine might not just awe-strike you in the first look or feel , but  it gradually grows on to you like music. The more you listen to a song the more you will love it  , Kawasaki Z800 is exactly the same- the more you ride and romp with it the more you will helplessly fall in love with it .

Kawasaki Z800

Much of the soul and body was inspired all the way from 1972 when Kawasaki Z series was introduced .The  Z1,  was one of a kind  motorcycle of its time, in the heart of the Kawasaki Z800 lies a  82bhp, 900cc in-line, four-cylinder gasoline engine that is good for over 200kph, which stands as a milestone in the era of super bikes . The Kawasaki Z800 has a very assertive and muscular look which every street head must posses. It is forged in such a brilliant way that you will be nodding in appreciation. Seating for the motor cycle is straight out of a street naked handbook – with a flat and wide handle bar , the foot pegs are slightly raised and towards the rear and there is that massive tank to lock your knees in.You will have to lean your body weight forward to achieve  a comfortable ride.

Design and Appearance

The all new Kawasaki Z800 (as it is called – the muscular bike ) has a very comprehensive muscle bound look . The only factor that differentiates the much pricy Z1000 and the Z800 is that awesome looking headlight you get with the Z1000. The headlight gleams bright enough with an impressive spread of light  .The bikes instrument cluster is surprisingly easy to read  and also not to mention very informative . There are loads of aggression in-terms of looks of the bike but it lacks a modern essence. Its tail lamps give a nice opposing look and nice touch to the bikes appearance. Then there is the weight factor, it weighs a staggering  231kg ( you will have slight trouble battling the city traffic and performing sharp cuts and turns)

Engine and Performance

In the heart of this magnificent beast lies a powerhouse of a 806cc petrol engine that produces 113PS at 10,200rpm while 83Nm of torque at a peak of 8000rpm.The engine is so smooth that you almost can’t feel it humming under your seat. This beauty is more than what it meets the eye, just the slightest press on throttle you will find yourself zooming at a high speed in a heartbeat. The engine responses so urgently, so swiftly that it gives such a pleasure to ride it , this is the reason why we Indians just cant resist a four cylinder engine .The clutch is little bit stiff but not so unmanageable , this stiffness gives a slight jerk while you press on to the throttle .The Kawasaki Z800 has a short gear which is typical of a street bike making it so well founded . The company claims that it cant reach from 0 to the magic figure of 100kmph in just 3.5sec and pull out a maximum of 120000 rpm. This beast is claimed to achieve high speeds around of 2oo kmph .

Kawasaki Z800 wheelie  Similar to all those other naked bikes , once you cross speed limits of 180 kmph it becomes such a physical struggle to keep up to the fight with such terrific gales. It is undoubtedly one the most quickest bikes around and the brake system is just so tremendous and so impressive. It might not be so robust as its bigger brother the Kawasaki  Z1000, but is just strong enough to decelerate you efficiently. The twin front brakes offers you a crisp bite and good movement . It looks a bit stiff but it is very surprisingly smooth and has very damp suspensions. It is so noticeable that each and every bump is so smooth, you would fall in love with it instantly. When taken on a long drive – it certainly runs smooth and crisp !

Bottom Line:

Kawasaki  Z800 isn’t just a toned down friendly bike , it has very impressive and has a lively engine , it handles things magnificently and brakes even better . Adding on to this , with its upright seating gives a pleasant ride quality and has no heating issues.

The Kawasaki Z800 isn’t the best of its kind or the most perfect naked bike but all that power and performance with such an attractive price makes it the most affordable four stroke engines around.
