With 21000+ bookings from the time of its launch, maruti baleno has put itself in a winning streak. In fact, even Nexa Dealerships are witnessing close to 56,000 footfalls that have been converted in a matter of a fortnight. Earlier, the Nexa website offered a configuration tool that could be used to select various accessories and such.

The overwhelming response received showed up in just 2 days when maruti has 4600 bookings for Baleno. It is reminiscent of the time when Baleno was launched about a decade ago and did not do as exceptionally well as it is doing now. This new vehicle has nothins in common from its predecessor, except for the name.

Here’s a review on this B+ segment hatchback from Maruti Suzuki:

The Baleno is the new B+ segment hatchback from Maruti Suzuki. The compact car is positioned above the Swift in the Maruti Suzuki range, making it their most premium hatchback in India. This car made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The Baleno is a global product that is solely made in India for both domestic and global markets. This car is doing pretty well for itself and since Maruti holds a great repute, the credibility is turning pretty lucrative for the company.

Outside:

On the outside, the Baleno appoints a new liquid flow design philosophy to emphasize its exterior. This car gets a V-shaped front grille that has its lines working their way till the rear, first through the sweptback headlamps and then through the shoulder line.

This car has an odd resemblance to that of the Swift with similar bonnet size and a little similarity with the design language. However, up close the car looks different and a lot more premium with LED DRLs, projector headlamps and chrome inserts. Maruti Suzuki has given this car a relatively simple side view. The rear side of this car is sloping but in no way brings out the sporty feel. The rear profile looks pretty with LED tail lamps and extra chrome. Overall, as intended the Baleno appears to be bigger and premium compared to the B-Segment cars. It is something that every car enthusiast needs, space, comfort, luxury and looks.

Maruti has certainly done its homework well to bring the Baleno at the right time. No other car manufacturer could pull up such a lot of bookings within a span of 10 days.

Inside:

Once you step inside the baleno, the vehicle greets you quite well with its all-black interiors and gives you an up market feel. The cabin feels fresh and looks revamped. In fact, the new dashboard layout is certain to get a lot of compliments. The silver inserts for the dashboards and the door trims are the additional goodies that make this car manifest a B segment car lover’s dream. There is plenty of space in the cabin for five passengers; also the boot is large at 339 litres.

The story doesn’t end there. Maruti has offered plenty of features with the Baleno. The top-end model gets touch-screen music system with navigation, rear parking camera and sensors, climate control, engine start-stop button and a detailed instrument cluster with a TFT screen. Also the safety features like ABS-EBD and the front airbags are standard across all variants.

Power train:

Powering the Baleno are the petrol and diesel variants. Choose the petrol variant and you should be able to enjoy the 1.2-litre K-Series VVT engine that helps you churn 83bhp and 115Nm of torque The fuel efficiency of the engine is officially rated at 21.4kmpl and it is available with a choice of a five-speed manual or the CVT automatic transmission.

The Diesel variant on the other hand is the same 1.3-litre multijet from the Swift producing 75bhp and 190Nm of torque. It uses the five-speed manual gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.39kmpl.

The baleno is a bigger car than the Swift. And so, the car has a new platform that was developed from scratch. Still, this car is 100 kilos lighter than the Swift.

In terms of variants, the Baleno is available in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The Sigma is the base level, while the Alpha variant is the top-spec with all the features. The CVT automatic transmission is available only with the Delta variant of the hatchback.Maruti Suzuki is offering the car in seven colours – ray blue, fire red, met premium silver, autumn orange, premium urban blue, pearl artic white and granite gray.

Price:

With an onward price of Rs. 5.41 lakhs On Road Price (Bangalore). The baleno hits off a spark and certainly removes the complaints that people had about the lack of space in the Swift. The vehicle is more generous on space, nimble to drive and befriends the pocket too.

Bottom Line:

Matters seem pretty profitable for Maruti Suzuki at the moment with the launch of Baleno. However, with competitors looking out for newer ways to tap into the market, Maruti Suzuki has to always outshine competition by launching something better and more desirable.
