LA-Ferrari (the synonym of love)

"Pricey, Elegant and Fuel Efficient"

When there is rivalry between the ultimate super car producing companies; the world stands witness. Ferrari (a division of fiat motors) has a hybrid card up its sleeve. This time, its habiliment pronounces a certain gumption that makes its rivals look fatuous.

The year was 2013, and the Geneva Motor show had its finest moments of new cars being unveiled, new features being flaunted and aspiration levels flying up higher than our dreams. There was sheer joy among enthusiasts, and then came the moment that made various speed freaks skip a heart beat (or more) The La’Ferrari was unveiled. It has equine features of a stallion that is powered hybrid.

La Ferrari (sounds very French) simply means The Ferrari (to the lay man) this is a one of a kind addition to the new age hybrid hyper car breeds. The name might be gullible, but beware this car isn’t just about the style and glamour, the power produced by the hyper hybrid can get you flying on the road at 300 kmph (whew!!)

The La Ferrari defeats the bull too, it is more powerful than the Lamborghini Veneo, and being faster than the previous MC Laren P1 it challenges the Posrche 918 Spyder. Although this car does not have the ability to run under full electric power like the Porsche and Mc laren at low speeds, but Ferrari clearly claims that the La Ferrari is the successor of the Enzo and takes you up close and personal to being  a Formula One Driver with this brutal force on wheels.

Ferrari Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show

“We chose to call this model La Ferrari because it is the maximum expression of what defines our company – excellence”

“Excellence in terms of technological innovation, performance, visionary styling and the sheer thrill of driving. Aimed at our collectors, this is truly an extraordinary car which encompasses advanced solutions that, in the future, will find their way onto the rest of our range, and it represents the benchmark for the entire automotive industry.” Said Ferrari President, Luca di Montezemolo.

The heart of the stallion is a 6.3-litre V12 Engine that has been upgraded. The same engine resides in the F12 Berlinetta. The upgrades include an increased compression ratio of 13.5:1 and there are various internal modifications done to the engine to produce a powerhouse. The improved engine produces 596 kW power @ 9000RPM, and the peak torque goes up to 700 Nm @ 6750 RPM (if this isn’t real power then what is?)

The Story of power doesn’t end there, the V12 engine is also accompanied by a pair of specially designed motors by the F1 electronic partner, Magneti Marelli who has introduced a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS)  adds on 120kW to the La Ferrari’s drive train that boost up its power a notch higher, making the power output go up to a staggering 718kW and producing a torque of 900Nm (WOW!!)

La Ferrari engine " A Beast resides in this car"

All that power is gets delivered to the rear wheels through the 7 speed dual clutch gearbox that boosts the Ferrari to around 100 kmph in less than 3 seconds (mind=blown). This car is all set to match the McLaren, Porsche 918 and the Lamborghini Veneno, the Ferrari bests the Mclaren (200kmph in 7 seconds) to a faster 300 kmph, making it faster by 2 seconds. The LaFerrari was also tested at Ferrari’s Fiaorano test circuit and it lapped 5 seconds faster than the Enzo, the la Ferrari also laps the Nurburgring circuit in less than 7 minutes, it is Ferrari’s fastest and the most aggressive road car.

All that power is concealed under a lightweight carbon fiber chassis that is sturdy and has a low center of gravity as compared to the Enzo. It weighs around 1360 kgs and it isn’t as bulky as most of the hyper cars built. The body is honed in the same manner and the same wind tunnel as most of the F1 race cars. The cars feature pretty neat aerodynamic devices like the diffusers (front and back) The wing mirrors on the La Ferrari are quite long, they are built in such a manner that the driver can look at the car’s rear wheel arches. This might be absurdly built, but that’s the trend (so what are we really going to do about it right?)

La-Ferrari looks and body

The LaFerrari has a double wishbone suspension mated with magnetic shock absorbers and new & improved carbon brakes to seize all the hyper power on wheels. Even the tires are of a different class; the specially crafted Pirelli P-Zero Tires are safe and obviously one of a kind.

Inspired by the F1 cars, the cockpit has two seats and the seats are a fixed part of the chassis. The pedal box and steering wheel can be adjusted according to the driver’s comfort, or you could pretty much get it tailor made (After all, you are going to burn the deepest corners of your pockets to afford this ride, so why not customize it?)

The Hyper-Hybrid La Ferrari spreads the Green word loud and clear, this is the future of green cars. The V12 engine is mated to an electric motor, the car is Hybrid and it is built not only for speed but to refurbish and redefine the way people look at green cars.

The car runs on a petrol engine and runs on three variations. It is developed for racing and stores electrical energy and uses it later to supplement power from the petrol engine.

The car reduces fuel consumption and lowers CO2 emissions.

This is the most crucial section. Ratan Tata had pored over each and every inch of La Ferrari at the Geneva auto Show, He claimed that the car looks terrific and what’s more terrific is its price. One being asked if he would buy one, he joked, “I don’t have the money”

Well, the car costs $ 2 million !

The car has already received more than 700 requests for this hyper beast (I wonder, where does all that money comes from?)

Well, this is yet another dream that might come true if you are a billionaire. It is one of the most spectacular cars built by Ferrari ever. Hope you see one whiz by on Indian roads.

Face Off: Nissan Terrano vs Ford EcoSport

ford ecosport dashboard

The SUV segment of the Indian market has boomed over the past few years. With the Indian consumer’s ongoing craze over massively over-sized vehicles, companies have taken advantage of the opportunity and released barrage SUVs in every possible price bracket. As a result, buyers can choose from compact crossovers such as the Duster all the way to the incredibly powerful (and expensive) Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG.

However, one of the fastest growing segments is the compact SUV segment. A section of the market populated by some of the biggest names of the auto industry. Here we pit the Nissan Terrano against the hugely popular Ford EcoSport to see which car could be the better bet.

Nissan Terrano:

The Terrano’s French cousin, the Duster had more of a love/hate design to it. Its butch exteriors and generous chrome grille gave the SUV a strong road presence. Unlike crossovers such as the Cross Polo and the Etios Cross, Renault has managed to endow the Duster with an exterior befitting of an SUV. Nissan has taken the Duster’s design and greatly improved on it.

The Terrano Is The Nissan Counterpart of the Renault Duster

The sharper headlights and revamped chrome grille give the Terrano a far more intimidating character. Nissan has also provided higher variants of the Terrano with premium diamond cut alloy wheels adding to the car’s upmarket feel. Similar to the Duster, the car’s flared wheel arches and raised ground clearance hint at the car’s off road nature.

Ford EcoSport:

The first to don Ford’s new design philosophy, the EcoSport is quite a good looking crossover. The large grille and high stance give the EcoSport a towering presence. The EcoSport’s length qualifies it to be under the sub 4 meter category giving it the benefit of a cheaper price tag. However, with its short stature and tall height the EcoSport looks rather stubby and disproportionate. To keep costs low Ford has also opted for rather tacky looking alloy wheels as well.

Round 1 Winner: Nissan Terrano !

Nissan Terrano:

Here’s where the Terrano loses out. Although the car is relatively new, the Terrano’s interiors are quite lackluster. The quality of plastics used are not upto par and the faux woodwork is immensely tasteless. The fat steering wheel is not available with steering mounted controls either. Although the music system features all the traditional inputs such as Bluetooth, USB, AUX IN and iPod connectivity, Nissan could have done a better job with the styling. However, the rather strange ovular door handles found on the Sunny and Micra do not make an appearance in the compact SUV, instead of which, the Terrano comes fitted with standard door handles which are far more pleasing to the eye.

Ford EcoSport:

Ford’s new Kinetic Design philosophy has worked wonders on the interiors of the EcoSport. A combination of sharp angles and a futuristic center console gives the EcoSport one of the best looking cabins of the crossover segment. As with most cars these days, the infotainment system comes fitted with the usual array of connectivity options. However, Ford has also included its new Voice Recognition system that allows users to make phone calls, change tracks as well as find and play tracks from a Bluetooth connected device. The new infotainment system offers more than just creature comforts as well. In case of an accident, the Ford call system automatically dials for emergency services, a welcome feature in a time where many manufacturers pay little heed to passenger safety.

ford ecosport dashboard
Dashboard of the Ford EcoSport

One main issue with the EcoSport is the same one that plagues the Terrano as well: Quality. Despite having one of the best looking interiors, the quality of materials and fit & finish could have been much better.

Round 2 Winner: Ford EcoSport !

Nissan Terrano:

Nissan offers two engine options for the Terrano. The 1.5 L diesel engine that is offered with a majority of the SUV’s trim levels produces 84 HP @3750 RPM and 200 Nm of peak torque @1900 RPM. The petrol Terrano houses a 1.6 L naturally aspirated engine that puts out 102 HP and145 Nm of torque. Considering the sheer size of the car, these engine options are quite a disappointment.

nissan terrano rear
Rear View of the Terrano

However, the Terrano was never a car meant for true off-roading and the small engines will prove more than sufficient in city limits and vastly contribute to respectable mileage numbers.

Ford EcoSport:

The EocSport is offered with three engine options. The 1.5 L petrol engine produces 109 HP and 140 Nm of torque while the brand’s 1.5 L TDCi diesel mill churns out 89 HP and 204 Nm of torque. Ford has also introduced its critically acclaimed 1.0 EcoBoost engine for the Indian market as well. The 1.0 L petrol engine produces an astonishing 123 HP and 170 Nm of torque. The engine also gives the EcoSport an incredible mileage of 18.9 km/L.

orange ford ecosport
Although the EcoSport May Be Marketed As A Capable Off Roader, the Lack of a 4WD System Means That Going Off The Road May Need a Call From The Tow Truck

Unlike the Terrano, Ford’s offering comes with an optional automatic gearbox for the 1.5 L petrol unit.

Round 3 Winner: Ford EcoSport !

The Nissan Terrano was a missed opportunity. Although the Japanese automaker has greatly improved on the Duster’s exteriors, it has failed to capitalize on the many flaws of its Renault sibling. However with its size and premium looking exteriors, the Terrano may garner a little more attention than the Duster.

The EcoSport on the other hand is a mechanical marvel. Despite its small size, it packs more for far lesser and offers never before seen features in its segment. An unbelievably powerful engine, superb interiors and feature loaded infotainment system all culminate to become one of the best cars to be sold in the Indian market so far. Although the EcoSport may seem to be the clear winner, the immense popularity of the compact SUV has led to Ford extending waiting periods to well over six months. Despite being the better option, the impatient will eventually turn to alternatives such as the Nissan Terrano.

Why Tesla Open-Sourced its Patents ?

model s blue

Elon Musk is clearly on a mission to change a lot of fundamental beliefs and practices. The maverick entrepreneur is something of a jack of all trades and master of them all as well, having tasted a degree of success in most ventures others can only dream of having. With Paypal he changed the way online transactions were carried out. SpaceX has altered the way we think about space travel. Musk has had the audacity to think of trips to the moon as an everyday, commercial affair.

And with Tesla he is pushing the boundaries of what we think electric and hybrid vehicles are capable of doing. The Canadian-American magnate has made it amply clear that conventions and rules mean little to him. But his latest caper is quite dumbfounding, even for his standards.

tesla red model s

“All our patents belong to you.” Like a thunderclap at dawn, Tesla’s document outlining its open-sourcing of its patents makes its intentions clear up front. The press release sent most observers of Musk and motoring in general into a deep and stolid period of cogitation.

Why would a veritable superpower in the world of electric vehicles, holding hundreds of patents, leave most of its intellectual property to be exploited by competitors and in essence, anybody?

Tesla model s blue

There are a couple of reasons why the move by Tesla is so astounding. Firstly, it flies in the face of anything we’re used to seeing in the industry. Patents are a means to secure one’s work so that it cannot be used by competitors from making use of or monetary benefit from their findings. It is also uncharacteristic for Tesla to do such a thing, as until now they have used their portfolio of patents in a most conventional manner- to foster innovation within the company and to maintain the innovation chasm it has established between itself and its rivals.

This raises a simple question. Why? Why would Tesla do such a thing? It seems like the kind of move that could bring an end to its dominance in the field of electric vehicles. Also, how much access does Tesla really give with regards to its patents? Let’s find out.

tesla model s

The first and most emergent reason that seems to behind Tesla’s move is to allow for greater standardization in the field. As with any emerging technology, one of the greatest impediments to the spread of electric vehicles has been the lack of standardized technology.

Consider charging stations, for example. Any electric vehicle owner will tell you that the lack of charging stations is one of the main problems they face. But it isn’t just the paucity that is hurting them, but the lack of uniformity. There are several different kinds of technologies that co-exist for charging electric and hybrid cars. If, instead, there was a standard technology used for charging stations, it would allow the infrastructure to be laid out more rapidly and be more ubiquitous.

Thus, it seems that Tesla has been almost altruistic in giving away its patents. Doing this will make their technology of preference known, and give it a shot at being the standard for the industry. It seems like a bit of a calculated risk but it also gives Tesla the chance to establish itself as the company providing the standards, and hence being the leader in its space. In doing so Tesla encourages greater uniformity in the kind of technology that is used while also asserting itself as an industry pacemaker.

With patents, a lot of what is kosher and what isn’t comes down to the legalese. Tesla has stated in its release that it won’t go after anyone that applies its technology in “good faith.” We’ll probably find out exactly what that means only when someone does breach the boundaries of good faith. On this point, it’s those that will potentially make use of the patents that will need to play it safe. How reliable really is Tesla’s declassification of its patents? One wouldn’t want to be the manufacturer to make use of Tesla’s technology only to find out that they’ve made an infringement.

Thus, as with any other legal matter, it is the nitty-gritties that it will all come down to. It may seem like Tesla has kept to its maverick ways and pulled another fast one on us. But at the end of the day it will be a court of law, mostly in the USA or France (where Tesla also has some of its patents filed) that will decide how the patent publishing plays out.

SUBARU WRX-2015 CONCEPT – an overview

Interiors of the WRX Subaru (concept)

Subaru cars have always been accoutered with the chiseled and diabolical looks just like it came out of the gymnasium, the recent announcement about the launch of its new WRX model in 2015 is pretty exciting, meanwhile let us review and get our hopes up with the Subaru WRX concept 2015.

Being a Genetically designed race car (so to speak) drivers and speed freaks were the prime focus, and the design was nothing to be really proud of. It was a racer, without any mention about its looks and such. But the new WRX changes all the previous kept notions.

The new Subaru seems stronger in appearance, it looks grumpy too. The new 268 hp generating turbo machine has a 4 and 6 speed manual transmission. As a part of Subaru’s homologation and the dire efforts to promote the WRX for rally’s during 1990, the Impreza was born with so much under its racing hoods that it was a racing rally horse. The 2 Liter turbo engine wasn’t the only impressive part of the vehicle, the fog lights, fender flares, great seating arrangement and a perfect commandeering steering wheel were the driving forces of the all wheel drive Impreza.

The WRX Concept is called a “design study” by Subaru, I wouldn’t know about the study part but it has certainly won a riders heart. It has a few tricks up its design that remain a mystery but the ride and its design are currently being molested in our minds, it’s a matter of time when 2015 is going to give us a WRX orgasm.

SUBARU WRX-2015 Design

The anticipated 2 Liter Turbo Charged engine is what’s going to charge the new WRX. The new sedan looking concept seems like a 5 door version. Subaru has not particularly been a beauty pageant in the looks department, but who needs looks when power is abundant in the WRX right?

I have to admit, the 2015 model has a sexy body & sporting ascendancy. This is one car that has been bulked up with steroids, Brains and Brilliance.

The formula of behemoth looks and cherubic interiors are a great combination. The interiors are decorous and pronounce chivalry. The steering wheel looks pretty elegant, so do the seats and upholstery. That should pretty much give you a general view of the interiors.

Interiors of the WRX Subaru (concept)

The brand doesn’t seem to give a rat’s a** about competing cars and their massive engines. A Subaru is what a Subaru does best, Glide through roads!!

The WRX isn’t any different, the new and improved injected 2 Liter engine is wilderness on roads, thrusting up 6000 RPM, that’s convenience at its finest for a race freak. The all wheel drive car would certainly perform its best and the 2-liter turbo charged engine with the power of at least 300 deft horses. Making an awaited debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show, the WRX looks faintly like the Impreza but the similarities are very meager.

With such a lot of mustered power under the hood, the brakes have to be freakishly good. The brakes on the WRX are definitely a show stopper (vehicle stopper in this case)although, there isn’t a lot of information available on them, but we expect something speed stopping.

Check out the heavy duty brakes on the WRX concept.

The WRX can perform well on roads, but it can perform better on jagged, muddy, and dirt friendly roads, for the fun sake you can try to perform a drift on such a road, the Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D tires would help you exceed your riding expectations. You’d surely have fun dancing with the WRX and it’s communicative steering that

Bleh!! Well, that the apt word for a wannabe stereo system that plays more crap than music. In all honesty, its way better listening to the phones in your phones play list than turning on this grumbling tractor like audio system.

The price of the Subaru WRX hasn’t been announced yet but, you can expect the entry-level price to range from US $ 26,000(Rs. 15.6 lakhs) to $ 32,490(Rs. 19.50 Lakhs), which would definitely make it a worthy buy. This car would just keep you engaged all day; like it was that special kind of girlfriend you always wanted.

The new and improved WRX Subaru

The WRX concept has a few features that definitely fit into the “hard to take your eyes off” category, there is an inclusion of a very bold Turbo 4 cylinder engine that would brighten up a racer’s day, there has also been an addition to gears and to sum up the good news, the WRX would be an all wheel drive, the sad part however lies in the infotainment, it is downright sad and makes you want to open your window and rather listen to the cows moo.

“Supposedly” a sedan, it is going to take some time to determine how well this Subaru performs.

Air Car’s to hit the roads in 2015 !

Everyone knows the iPod, but do you know about AirPod ?

Growing environmental degradation day by day, has led to the development of green technologies for keeping the mother Earth alive and also making it safer for the generations to come. Automobiles contribute the maximum share of pollution and thus there is a serious need of coming up with clean, safe and efficient technologies. The presence of limited amount of petrol and diesel is making the global automotive industry to think on alternative fuels.

One such concept named ” One CAT Air Car was shown at the New York Motor show in 2008. It was proposed by Motor development International (MDI) , a French Company founded by Guy Negre.  As the name suggests, unlike conventional cars , this vehicle is driven by compressed air. In petrol and diesel engines, on combustion the chemical energy of the fuel is converted into the mechanical energy. Thus, it is the energy from the fuel that drives the piston of the engine. However,  in Air Car the energy of the compressed air is used to drive the engine.

MDI AirPod at Geneva Motor Show, 2009 (Source:

Air Car has a compressed air engine which works on the basic principle of using the energy available from compressed air. The compressed air is stored in high pressure tanks or cylinders installed on the vehicle. The cylinders are filled by plugging the compressor for generating high pressure air. The high pressure air drives the piston which result in the rotation of crankshaft and further the power is transferred to the wheels..

The filling of air is similar to the charging of the electric batteries in electric vehicles. This takes time of around two hours for complete filling and can be avoided by installing the compressor in the vehicle itself with a penalty of its weight. The MDI Air Car fills about 90 kg of high pressure air and can give speeds upto 56 kmph . For attaining higher speeds upto 80 kmph, a motor will start the compressor for producing more high pressure air. Pre-heating of the air using for engine drive, increases energy density of air and produces more power. In order to accelerate, a valve is positioned in the cylinder and during accelerator press, the valve allows more amount of air to go into the cylinder for producing more power.

MDI AirPod Engine Bay
MDI AirPod Engine (Source:

On comparison , the amount of energy available in one kg of air and one kg of conventional fuel like petrol or diesel, the air has very less energy. Keeping this in mind , the weight of the vehicle plays an important role . Thus, MDI initially came up with a single seater concept suitable for urban driving. MDI has many range of products to be run by Compressed air, some of which includes the Ai rMulti-Bus (Urban Transport), AirVan (Transport Utilities),Air Transcontainer and AirBom (Waste Collection).

The major advantage of Air Car is that the vehicle produces no pollution. The only source of pollution can be during usage of compressor for producing high pressure air and that could also be removed by using in-built solar panels for providing electricity to the compressor. The cost of air is very less when compared to the prices of petrol and diesel which are increasing day by day. Air being an abundant source such vehicles can be significantly effective. The vehicles are every light with aluminum chassis and keeping the weight to be around 900 kg. The small vehicles being compact can easily maneuver and will cause less traffic in the city. The vehicle can be easy parked in very small spaces.

The disadvantage of Air Car is that it might not be used for long drives. It is due to the less availability of compressed air pumps and thus would be beneficial to go for urban drives only for initial stages. The prototype has shown to be driven for 120 miles in one complete filling of cylinders. If the vehicle proves out to be more efficient and fruitful, there are strong possibilities for increasing high pressure compressed air pumps.

MDI AirPod at Parking
MDI AirPod in Parking (Source:

In their latest release , MDI( has come up with a prototype of AirPod and is optimized for parking in the city. The doors on the flanks are removed and can be easily parked perpendicularly to the pavement. They have also introduced joy stick for driving in the AirPod and the vehicle is extremely light.

In India, TATA Motors will likely go for the production of Air Car. The compressed engines designed and developed by MDI will be integrated in to the TATA Motors vehicles. TATA Motors Air Car is yet to be produced. Major automobile makers are keeping their eye on compressed air vehicle. The market can be understood only after the customer response for the first models of Air Car. Zero Pollution Motors will be producing the AirPod vehicle of MDI and will be on sale by 2nd half of 2015.

NFS MOST WANTED, A gaming Revolution that changed Lives – Part 2

After the initial dose of the Most Wanted, lets review the other cars too shall we?

Possibly the best start to the continuation, the Lamborghini Gallardo has just been a darling, found in almost every NFS Most wanted Players garage. The 5 litre V10 powered lambo was the first of its kind, with such a powerful engine among the Gallardo series.

Rolling out between 2003 and 2005, the Gallardo produced 493 BHP @ 7800 RPM racing upto 311kmph. Even in the game, the Lambo Gallardo was priced like a Lambo, $1,20,000 was the price in the game, and in reality, well $600K  ie. 2.79-3.80 crore INR (it was better owning one in the game, at least you could drive and crash the gallardo like no ones business 🙂

The garage was graced by two of the most (then)powerful Lambos. The Murcielago was sleeker and meaner. It reigned the real world from 2001-2006. The 6.2 Liter V12 engine produces 572 BHP @ 7500 RPM, giving it the ability to go as fast as 332 kmph. Succeding the Diablo, the Murcielago is definitely a worthy champion. In the game, the Murcielago costs $ 2,25,000 and in real life, the Murcielago costs $800K ie. between 3.92- 4.77 Crore INR. wouldn’t you love to hear the murcielago?

The one car that made me race through the initial part of the game, the Lexus IS 300 is definitely a friend on wheels.

Reigning from 1998- 2005,  Lexus is known for creating the most reliable cars in the world (a unit of Toyota motors) The IS 300 produces a humble 214 BHP @ 5800 RPM. The saloon car cum Sedan came with a 3 Litre engine, is available at the beginning of the game with a decent price of $ 27,000. Although, the new IS 300 is among the slowest offerings (without any upgrade) the car manages to eke its way through the race.

Manufactured by Lotus between 2004 and 2011, the Lotus Elise 111 R, looked too small to perform. But, after taking it for a spin, I was certainly convinced by its power. Powered by a fuel injected 1.8 litre Toyota engine, the Elise produces 189 BHP @ 7829 RPM and conveniently drove me at 222,Unofficially available in India, but the game price is $ 48,000.

Mazda has been seen a lot in the fast and furious movies, the 1999-2002 Mazda RX 7 FD. I tried my hands at drifting with this vehicle. Although, the 6 series was more successful in various countries due to its adherence to emission regulations.

The 7 series was sold as a right hand drive version, the 1.3 Litre 13B- REW rotary engineproduces 255 BHP @ 6500 RPM, giving the driver the ability to race at 250 kmph.

Superseding the RX7, is the RX 8 that packed a mightier roar and better features. The 1.3 Liter 13B-MSP engine is powerful and produces 232 BHP at 8500 RPM. The rear wheel drive offers driving comfort and in real life goes hard on your fuel. The 6 speed manual transmission is quite the race car you would expect.

The 2 Litre fuel injected engine on the Golf (mk5) is pretty impressive. Being, the first of its kind to contrain a dual clutch transmission otherwise known as DSG (Double Shift Gear Box) the Golf, was produced between 2004 and 2009. Creating 197 BHP at 5100 RPM, the Golf went as fast as 235 kmph. Priced at $ 35,000 the mazda RX7 was priced at

Warning, the Sound could mess with your speakers!!!

Produced between 2005 and 2007, the 6 Litre V8 engine on the Monaro produces 400 BHP @ 6000 RPM and could easily touch 290kmph. Sold under the Vauxhall brand (United Kingdom) the Vauxhall was quite pleasing to drive in the game and i’m assuming it would be the same in real life.

If it is one of the favorites, it’s got to be a supra. Toyota’s production of these fantastic performers started off in the year 1993 and went on up to 2002. But, the supra is still missed. Carrying a 3 Litre Twin Turbo I6 engine, the Supra gave out exceptional results.Producing 276BHP @ 5600 RPM, the Supra went as fast as 241 kmph, making it my second favorite ride.

It looked like the Lancer Evo, and even performed like it.The Subaru is a Japanese Brand that came with a 2 Litre Flat 4 engine, it was produced from 2004-2006. It produces 300 BHP @ 6000 RPM and goes at 250 kmph. Although it couldn’t keep up with the much superior cars, the Impreza was an  impress-er 🙂

Hatch backs are always cute, the Renault Clio was the same, it looks a little like the Swift but then it looks a little like the fabia too. Built somewhere in between the year 2003 and 2005. Mated with a 3 litre V6 24 v Engine, producing 251 bhp @ 7150 RPM and topping its speed at 232kmph.It costs $ 40,000 in the game. The ride was pretty smooth yet it used to lack the complete power as much as the rival vehicles would produce.

A two door classic from Pontiac, a 6 Litre LS2 V8 massive engine that is priced at $ 35,000 in the game, provides excellent handling and drift, especially when it comes to a high speed cop chase. Although mustang offers a better handling over curves, the Pontiac’s Bulky build helps keep the disturbing cop cars at bay. Producing 400 bhp @ 6600 RPM, the pontiac touches 253kmph mark.

My favorite car in the game is the Lancer EVO (also seen in Fast and Furious) I wouldn’t have defeated a lot of Bosses if it weren’t for this car. The first thing that i love about the car is its ability to accelerate like a cheetah. It was indeed the most powerful Mitsubishi offering during 2003-2005 which possessed a 2 Litre Turbo I4 engine that made 261 BHP @ 6500 RPM.

The front wheel drive-car might not have possessed the best of looks, but it was certainly noisy to put the rivals at shame.

The 3.8 Litre 6G75 V6 engine mated on to the Eclipse produces 263 BHP @ 5750 RPM and touches the 220 speed at ease. A worthy price tag of $30,000 in the game, the main power with this vehicle lied in its customization.

Stay tuned for the final dose of the super finest cars Most Wanted offered!  🙂

Mercedes Benz C220- Ownership Review

Mercedes Benz C220 CDI – Ownership review.

Mercedes Benz. The name itself pretty much says it all. They have been one of the leaders in luxury car making for many years and look to do the same in years to come.  When Mercedes Benz came to India back in 2002 they brought a car which at the time where so rare to see in India (keep in mind they were one of the first German manufacturers between BMW, Audi and themselves to start selling cars in India in the 21St century). The cars introduced then where years ahead in many if not every aspect to the cars available in India at the time. Nearly 12 years down the line I think it’s safe to say their cars are still some of the best. Their cars nowadays are brimming with the latest technological developments, high levels of luxury, and some head pinned to the head rest performance.

The C Class is Mercedes Benz’s Entry level luxury sedan. The competition in India mainly comes from BMW with the 3 series and Audi with the A4 (Volvo does have a pretty good car in this segment but sales aren’t like these 3). These are 3 very good cars in their own right. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses so it’s hard to pick between them. This particular C Class is going to be replaced soon with the latest version which is supposedly coming out sometime next year. The rumors are that the new one looks like a baby S-Class (which is a bit disappointing if I do say so). I always admired Mercedes Benz Cars because each car had its own character per say. Each Car from the A – Class to the S – class had its own persona, its own gorgeous looks but maybe that time is at an end. For now though we still do have this version of the C- Class on sale for with the resources to buy it. This particular C- Class is the C220 CDI. It’s the diesel variant of the car and starts at Rs 39.35lakh (Ex Showroom Delhi)

The C Class is something of a muscle man between the 3. With its muscular looks and powerful engine this car oozes with the go fast feeling but its one of the best cars to cruise on the highway with too! This particular car is now about 1 yr and a half old and has 22000 kms under its belt and it holds true to the saying that the German cars are built to last (there is also a saying that their built like tanks which shouldn’t be taken literally!). So now how is it like to own one?

Exterior Design, Quality & looks:

The Mercedes Benz CClass, is a car which tries infusing the best of both modern and classic. It has the sharp, aggressive line and looks but on closer inspection there is the blend of smooth lines throughout the car. The front end is something which can scare you at night if you find the car hurtling at you in your rear view. The angular and bold looks of the front can leave you admiring it for sometime without realizing.

As you move along the car the bold angular lines give way to more smooth curved shapes and lines. From almost just past the bonnet you can see the shape of the car changes to a more fluid shape all the way to the rear. The wheel design too blends in very well with the cars dimensions. The rear of the car isn’t as menacing as the front although with its dual fibre optic light strip in each tail light at night the car does look a bit futuristic. The overall shape and design of the rear though is different to that of the front. Its much smoother and curved and does catch your eye.

Exterior of the Mercedes Benz C220
Exterior of the C220

The overall build quality of the exterior is one of the best available in the Indian market today. It feels and looks well put together and like it will last for years to come and will be able to take a few hits as well. All in all this is car is very attractive to look at and has the quality to match its price.

Interior Design & Quality:

It’s now time to look at the part which makes a luxury car a luxury car. The Interior. This is the part of a car which almost every person will look at to decide whether the car is worth its asking price as well as its name. The interior of a car plays a vital role in making its occupants feel special and I can safely say that with this C- Class, Mercedes Benz haven’t held back. The moment you get into the car you can just feel the quality of the materials used is of a very high standard to make the occupants feel a class above. The seats are leather and electronically adjustable in every manner.

From the head rest to the thigh support – can be adjusted to make the occupants in the front as comfortable as possible. The front seats also come with a memory function which allows the occupant to save their preferred seating position in three slots and with just a press of a button the seat will automatically revert to the position saved in the slot. The rear seats aren’t so bad themselves. Although they aren’t adjustable like the front they are very supportive and comfortable to sit in and one can easily manage in these seats on long drives without any discomfort. One thing to note is that the rear legroom isn’t as good as other cars in this segment. The doors are wrapped in leather and high quality plastics and also do contain some brushed aluminium trim for the door handle.

Interiors of the Mercedes Benz C220
Interiors of the C220

The dash of the car combines the use of high quality plastics as well as brushed aluminium very well. The buttons on the dash feel very solid and clearly marked for their specific function. The Instrument cluster looks bit retro with its design but looks really good none the less. I l personally like the way they have supplied analogue dials for the engine temperature as well (previous cars didn’t have this). The instrument cluster screen contains the trip computer as well as settings to the car and also information of any malfunction on the car. Pages on the screen can be controlled using the steering controls. The dash also contains the screen for Mercedes Benz’s COMMAND system. The screen is very clear and has two different themes for day and night to allow for more comfortable reading at the specific time.

The system itself could have been a little more user friendly but over time you do get used to it. The system is controlled by a circular knob on the center arm rest just blow the gear lever. The positioning of the controller is near perfect as it falls just under the palm of the driver as he/she rests their arm on the arm rest. The center console of the Dash contains the audio controls, telephone/Bluetooth controls, climate control, as well as some of the luxury feature controls such as the back screen. This in my opinion makes the center console look a bit crowded, it’s not as simple and elegant as in its rivals and is one aspect where Mercedes Benz could improve on.

There is however one feature where the C- Class has a hand above the rest of the competition. The PANORAMIC sunroof.  This is basically an almost all glass roof (there is a support which runs from left to right in between the front and back seats on the roof). This support contains the mechanisms which draw the sunroof curtains as well as the front sunroof back. This feature in my mind is the closest thing you can get to a convertible without having to shell out as much for the actual. With the curtains drawn the sunroof allows even the rear passengers to gaze out at the sky however when the front section is drawn out it covers the rear glass obstructing the view.  But still this is one thing which really allows all the occupants to enjoy their drive and considering it’s the only car in its class to have this makes you feel pretty special.

Engine & Driving Dynamics:

Now one thing Mercedes Benz is most known for is their powerful engines. The C- Class is no different.  When compared to its rivals this car has the most powerful engine of the lot. Even the least powerful diesel engine is more powerful than the other cars in its segment. The C220 CDI is powered by a 2.0 liter Turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel motor. It kicks out 170bhp between 3000 – 4200 RPM (Yes, you read that right it develops Max power over a band of RPM and not just at a specific RPM) and when it comes to torque is gives out a near sport car territory 400NM between 1400 – 2800 RPM. All this power and torque is fed through Mercedes Benz’s 7-G Tronic Gearbox and put down on the road through the rear wheels.

The engine in this car is one of the reasons we decide to go for it over it other competitors. It even made us pick the C220 over the C250 CDI which has a more powerful engine due to its shear efficiency in delivering both max power and max torque through nearly the whole Rev band! There isn’t much turbo lag to deal with. Almost as soon as u put your foot down you get the feeling of being pushed into your seats. In fact you don’t need to put your foot all the way down. There’s so much torque to play with you would almost never get tired of it. Be it in the city or on the highway overtaking is a breeze in this car.

The Powerful Diesel Engine - Mercedes Benz C220
The Powerful Diesel Engine under the hood!

One more thing which makes this one of the most unique diesel engines I’ve come across is the sound. On start up and between idle and about 2500 RPM this engine does sound like a diesel engine but move past 2700 RPM and all that changes. The engine sort of almost starts to roar like a petrol engine would. The first time I experienced this, it captivated me and over time grown to love it. The one place where the car could be a little better is the gearbox. It is one of the best for the city.

The changes are smooth and the gearbox almost sort of knows what gear you need & when. But take the car to the highway and gearbox starts to show signs of weakness. Its slow to down shift a gear (if you need) when you overtake which at times if you’re not careful can put you in a bit of a tight spot. However Mercedes Benz has provided a solution if your brave enough to use it. At the bottom of the lettering of gear lever you will be able to find a button with E and S written with arrows pointing either way. This is the mode selector. It allows you to navigate between Economy Mode and Sport Mode for the car. Put it in Sport and the car transforms. The throttle and brake response both sharpen and the car holds Revs longer enabling the car to be in its peak at all times. But for the most time you wouldn’t want to use this mode as fuel efficiency then drops massively.

The steering is one of the best there is. It’s a parametric steering system which is fitted to most Mercedes cars nowadays. The system adjusts the weighting of the steering according to the speed of the car. In the city at low speeds the steering is light to make turning easy and on the highway it’s beautifully weighted to allow the driver to know exactly where the wheels are pointing. Add to this the precision of the steering and you have something you can’t but appreciate to have. The suspension of the car uses Mercedes Benz’s Agility Control system but the overall state of tune is a bit too stiff. This can make things a bit uncomfortable if you’re driving on a pothole ridden road. The feel of the brake pedal and the stopping power of the brakes themselves are also very good.

After Sales & Service:

After Sales communication from the Mercedes representatives is good. So is their service quality. But one place which is one of the biggest problems in owning a car like this is the spare costs. This is one thing which can burn a very deep hole in your pocket. So be very mindful that you not only have the money to buy it but to maintain it as well.

Points For Improvement In The C220:

–          The central console is to cluttered with buttons. Hopefully Mercedes Benz goes for a more simple approach in the next car.

–          The gearbox is sublime in the city but could be better on the highway.

–          Spare Costs are very high and scare people away from buying the car.

–          Suspension is a bit too stiff for Indian Roads although on the highway this lends to brilliant road holding.

Bottom Line:

At the end of the day if I had the choice of this car and its rivals I would still pick this one. More than anything else this car connects with the driver. From the moment you get in everything thing about the experience is there to make your life as a driver so much easier but at the same time so much more enjoyable. I’ve never after driving this car come out with anything less than a smile on my face and in my opinion that’s what cars should do.

Face Off: Volkswagen Vento vs Ford Fiesta

Volkswagen vento rear

Ford is back with an all new generation of the Ford Fiesta. Packed to the brim with features, the next generation Fiesta is all set to take on established rivals such as the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the Skoda Rapid. Although Ford has had a long standing good reputation with the Indian consumer, its absence from the car market has left a serious impact on the company’s brand image.

The 2014 Ford Fiesta

Volkswagen on the other hand, is fast gaining momentum as a brand that produces quality cars with a Teutonic attention to safety. While the German car maker does have upmarket cars such as the Jetta and Passat in the more premium segments, the Vento and Polo are the company’s main bread winners. We take a look at the popular Vento and see what Ford’s latest offering is up against.

Volkswagen vento
The VW Vento

Volkswagen Vento:

As with all the latest VW’s of this generation, the German car maker has abandoned its organic design approach for a cleaner, more angular styling. As with the Jetta, the Vento maybe a good looking car, but it lacks a certain something that makes it stand out from the crowd. Nevertheless, the Vento looks far more upmarket than most of its rivals, a trait many buyers look for in a car.

Volkswagen vento side view
The Vento Follows a Simple Design Philosophy

The neatly sculpted bonnet and the sharp, straight creases that run along the sides of the car endow the Vento with an understated elegance about it. VW has revamped the rear profile rather than sticking to the Polo’s design to better improve the overall design of its sedan counterpart. The boot’s proportions and layout are perfect. So much so that one may be hard-pressed to guess which one may be the derivative.

Ford Fiesta:

Ford has taken what could be called the polar opposite to VW’s design philosophy. Instead of subtle framework and the use of an understated design language, the new Fiesta is a much bolder presence on roads than the outgoing model or the Vento. Dubbed Kinetic Design 2.0, the new design philosophy bears many similarities to Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture.

The Ford Fiesta’s Aggressive Grille Gives The Sedan A Much Stronger Road Presence

The raised bonnet and aggressively styled front headlights add an element of sportiness lacking in the Vento. The retracted fog lamp enclosures, large chrome grille and a sloping roof line all hint at what the Fiesta really is: a fun car. Sadly the rear end of the Fiesta remains the same. The awkwardly styled tail lamps and stubby trunk give the Fiesta a disproportionate body.

Rear View of the 2014 Ford Fiesta

While Vento’s design may play to the logical side of you, the Fiesta wildly impresses the child inside us all. From the get go itself, we see that though these two cars may be in the same price bracket and fall under the same segment, the Fiesta and Vento cannot be any more different. The Vento and Fiesta follow very different schools of design and appeal to very different segments of the Indian audience. While one appeals to businessmen, the other is targeted at a younger generation.

Round 1 Winner: Draw!

VW Vento:

The clinical precision carries over to the Vento’s interiors as well. Although the Vento’s cabin is quite upmarket, the car has seen little to no changes over the course of its lifetime and it has begun to show. The stereo system is outdated and the steering mounted controls do not offer the same level of accessibility as the Verna let alone the Fiesta. The beige interiors add to the airy feel of the sedan’s cabin. The Vento’s center console features a functional infotainment system with conventional connectivity options such as Bluetooth, AUX in, USB and iPod connectivity. Dashboard plastics are typical of a premium German sedan.

Ford Fiesta:

The Fiesta’s zesty nature continues inside as well. Ford has adopted the very same design found on the previous model and the current gen EcoSport. The new infotainment system comes with the recently launched AppLink system that allows independent developers to create apps for the Fiesta. Definitely a step in the right direction by the American car maker. Apart from Ford’s AppLink system, the car maker’s voice recognition software is also included along with conventional options such as Bluetooth, iPod, USB connectivity and Aux In.

The Fiesta Offers Features Such as Push Start/Stop

Although the sloping roofline adds to the car’s sporty appeal, the rear headroom suffers and as a result, tall passengers may not be able to sit comfortably at the back. However, besides that, the Fiesta’s updated interiors are modern and offer much better functionality than the Vento’s.

Round 2 Winner: Ford Fiesta!

VW Vento:

Volkswagen offers both petrol and diesel options for the Vento. The German car maker offers two petrol engines and one diesel unit for the Indian market. The diesel mill powering the Vento is a turbocharged 1.6 L engine that produces 103 HP @ 4400 RPM and 250 Nm of torque at 1500 RPM.

The 1.6 L petrol engine churns out 103 HP at 5250 RPM and 153 Nm of torque @ 3800 RPM. Petrol fans also have the choice of the more economical 1.2 L turbocharged unit. While both engine’s produce the same power at approximately the same revs, the 1.2 L turbo petrol puts out 175 Nm of torque at a much lower 1500 RPM. While the diesel and 1.6 L petrol variants come equipped with 5 speed manual gearboxes, the TSI variant sports the German car maker’s popular 7 speed DSG gearbox.

Ford Fiesta:

With the massive popularity of oil burners and the ever increasing petrol prices, Ford has dropped the petrol engine for the new Fiesta. While many may criticize Ford’s latest move, the diesel engine is quite capable and is quite refined. The tried and tested 1.5 L TDCi engine produces 90 HP and 203 Nm of torque.

Round 3 Winner: VW Vento!

The Drive:

VW Vento:

Volkswagen has always focused on a car’s driving dynamics. While the Vento is equipped with electric steering, the feedback is quite adequate yet light enough for city traffic. Brakes are incredibly responsive and perform well when pushed to the limit. However, the car could’ve done with a rear parking camera as parking a sedan in the city has now become a monumental task.

Volkswagen vento rear
The Vento Is a Briliiantly Engineered Car; However, the sedan could with a few extra features

Although some may be happy with the 100 odd horsepower engine, the Vento could do with a more powerful unit. The size of the Vento requires a little more grunt under the hood to keep the car entertaining. Hopefully we may see a new engine option on the next gen Vento.

Ford Fiesta:

The Fiesta is renowned for its driver centric design. Sadly, with the discontinuation of the petrol variants from the new lineup, Ford maybe be letting go of its signature characteristics. However, the sedan’s diesel engine is far more refined than most engines and the car’s small size means that the 1.5 L TDCi engine is more than sufficient.

ford fiesta front
The Fiesta’s Design Has Been Targeted At A Much Younger Audience

Round 4 Winner: VW Vento!

While the VolkswagenVento may be the clear winner on paper, the all new Ford Fiesta is a car that tugs at your heart. Both cars may be in the same segment, but their primary purpose is completely different. The eternal case of apples and oranges, a clear winner can never be determined.

For a customer who just wants the job done with no regard for extra features or zing, the Vento is ideal. However, for the playful ones, the Fiesta is the better bet. With its aggressive front fascia and futuristic interior design, the Fiesta is easily one of the zestier cars available in the market right now.

2014 SRT Viper- An Overview

What is more dangerous than the Viper Snake?.  It’s the all new SRT Viper 2014. Until 2012 the Viper was controlled by Dodge and now it dodged out and reached to SRT for a new beginning. Ditching Dodge, the Bad Ass Viper Returns with SRT and this time the snake is more powerful with outrageous speed and performance.!

Even some of the design aspects of the Stingray are in resemblance with the viper. Moving to the new SRT Viper, the new enhancements are huge and the new Viper has many legends involved, right from its subsidiary Lamborghini to Chrysler group and from SRT to Pirelli.

Review: Styling

We know that, viper cars are known for its astonishing build quality and aerodynamic intelligence. The same thing applies to the new Viper as well. The aerodynamic body will surely attract you in the first glance itself. Unlike the other sports cars, Viper’s front is really elongated (there are only a few cars which has this type of elongated body measures). This increases the safety quotient of the car and makes it very stylish and unique.

The light-weight Sidewinder II wheels finished in matte-black and the grille design with whole new Viper’s logo studded on it makes this car amazing and seductive. The Corsa tires which are designed by Pirelli look’s stunning and helps the car to reach maximum speeds with headlong road grip. The headlights and tail-lights which are made of white light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lamps and Bi-Xenon Lamps are neatly placed to give this car a great road view. In whole the car looks amazing in every angle.

Viper SRT exterior

The all new viper has a whole new skin inside it. When compared to its predecessor, the new viper has a luxurious interior. SRT has focused on driver-focused cockpit-style layout to help drivers drive the car at higher speeds with minimal range of distractions. A 7-inch cluster display which is fully customizable with the tachometer studded in the center makes this car look dramatic and trendy.

Uconnect Access infotainment system made exclusively by Chrysler Group displays the car information that is used by the driver in order to monitor the aspects of the car. Along with these buttons and knobs (which are used to control the aspects of the car such as climate etc.) everything looks perfect and neatly placed. The seats are made by the Italian maker Sabalt, (which sometimes feel uncomfortable for stout folks as they lack upper body support). It also has improved interiors such as audio systems powered by Harman kardon.

Review: Engine and Performance

The snake is now power packed with a new kind of venom inside in it! Under the hood we can find all-aluminum 8.4-liter V10 which is dubbed as LT4 engine which can churn a maximum torque ranging up to 600 lb·ft (810 N·m) @ 4950 rpm and can produce the power quantity up to 640 bhp (480 kW) @ 6150 rpm. This engine is totally hand made. It also gets a new 6-speed Tremec TR-6060 manual gear system which precisely controls the speed of the car.

Also it has improved add-on enhancement such as new piston range in order to decrease rigidity, sodium-filled exhaust valves, and new catalysts to reduce back pressure. The new viper has new a engineering team which is known as team viper has made this car invincible.

Review: Suspension and Braking

The new Viper has a great suspension system which is called as Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, is adapted from the GTS. Not only this, it also has a wide range of add-ons adding to the suspension such as shock dampers, increased spring rates in order to control the car efficiently. The 4-piston brembo braking makes this car very reliable at high speeds. These aspects increase the handling aspects of the car tremendously!

2014 SRT Viper Brakes

Review: Safety

This car is not yet crash tested, but this roadster has a wide range of safety measures provided to this car such as

  • Full suite of air bags
  • Traction control
  • Stability Control
  • Pre-tensioning seat belts
  • Uconnect Access infotainment system

However this car safety has a flaw too, as this car does not have side impact curtain airbags.

2014 SRT Viper Safety

Love It:

  • Dynamic exteriors
  • Good Acceleration rates
  • Super performer
  • Handling

Leave It:

  • Safety needs to be better
  • Fuel consumption is high
  • Expensive
  • Small drawbacks in interiors

The car faces major rivalry from Corvette’s C7 stingray and Porsche’s 911 turbo. Not only these two in case of its class, this car also faces rivalry from Audi’s R8, Nissan’s 2015 GTR, 2015 Jaguar’s XKR and Mercedes CL63 AMG.

The new viper is all set to rock the roads, and with these features we can clearly say that it can give pretty good competition to stingray and can the stop the monopoly of C7 in sports segment. Overall it’s a great choice and is unique too.
