Review: Engine & Performance

The car comes with a 2.2-litre DOHC CRDi diesel engine which is quite enough to generate high qualified power to the compact SUV. It produces an excellent amount of torque ranging up to 420 Nm which is quite impressive and comes handy in order to increase the power and performance of the car, besides being large this power helps the car to move at rapid speeds. The mileage of the car ranges from a 9-13 Kmpl which depends upon the road condition and gear transmission as well. It can reach 0-100kms mark within 9-10 sec at a ranging speed of 193Kmph. The 6-speed auto H-matic gearbox is able to give a precise amount of power to the engine and helps to increase the performance of the car. The Eco-pro mode is introduced in Santa Fe, and it can balance the power aspects and the car and reduce fuel consumption.

Review: Driving and Handling

The new Santa Fe is equipped with a new technology known as the flexi-steer technology. The new Santa Fe is the first model to get this technology from Hyundai. It allows the user to change steering to three profiles such as Comfort, Normal and Sport. While driving in city roads you can set the driving mode to normal or comfort mode and while on highway you can change it to sport mode for a convenient steering at higher speeds. Santa Fe suits for both on and off road conditions. The hill hold function can help you to drive in hill slope conditions too.

Review: Styling

Exterior:

The exterior of this car is followed by the same Hyundai fluidic design principle which gives the car an awesome feel from outside. Unlike traditional SUV’s Santa Fe doesn’t have a boxy design. The aerodynamic design makes the car look more interesting and adds an elegant look to this car. The design off this car was done with compromising the aesthetic appeal and the front grille with chrome plated finish with a Hyundai logo studded at the center, that looks amazing. The projection headlamp at front and ravishing red lights mounted at the rear end of the car adds beauty to this car. The fog lamps come with clear lens that make the road more visible during high fog conditions. The side looks of the car is decent and the 18-inch alloy wheels with metallic flares that match’s the car color looks very pleasing. The chrome tipped twin exhaust outlets add a sporty feel to this car.

Interior:

The interior of the car certainly offers a good comfort feel to this car as the interior is more luxurious than its previous releases. The bucket seats are very comfortable and feels very at home, even in hectic traffic. The front two seats are adjustable up to 12 different ways electrically and the high quality leather touches on seats gives the car interiors an elegant feel. Like the seats as I said the steering can be adjusted according to our comfort, which adds more comfort during long drives. The car controls are neatly placed on the console with LED touching makes the car look more fashionable and trendy. The dash board is engraved with urbane carbon black trim that looks stunning and stylish too. The car is basically a seven seater and looks very spacious from inside and the comfort quotient is good. The other instruments in the interiors such as the tachometer, speedometer, and trip meter and the basic feature such as AC-Vents, Cruise Controlling, and Central lock look great and well placed.

The Great Rise:

Before previewing the newly released Saab. We would surely need to take a look back to its history, so we can understand SAAB’s greatness and why it is considered as one of the predominant automobile manufacturer in the world. Saab was first started in the year in 1945. But the roots of this car come back from 1937, where Saab AB (Svenska Aeroplan AB) a Swedish aerospace and defense company was started in Linköping-Sweden, in order to build the aircrafts for Swedish Air-force as World War II started provoking at that moment and Europe stared actively participating in World War II. The European armies were in dire need of air based weaponry and at that moment Saab AB was considered as one of the major sources for air based weaponry. As the war gets settled, the market for airplanes were slowly decreased and the company was looking for a new market to continue. In 1945 the automobile market boomed, getting Saab to enter in to the automobile market and in the same year Saab introduced a single engine car Saab 91. In 1948 after moving to Trollhättan, and doing some projects there, Saab finally introduced Saab 92 in 1949 and continued it until 1969

Saab history

In 1969 Saab was overtaken by Scania-Vabis, a leading Truck company and 10 years later Saab Scaniareleased the mix-over as Saab 900 and it was considered one of the best-selling cars of the year. After releasing Saab 9000 in mid-1988’s both companies were moved a part.

2010-14: Reinventing Saab.

In 2010, due to investment problems the Swedish automobile maker didn’t release any Saab cars into the market. After bankruptcy and a billion dollar damage it sold Saab to a Chinese based company: National Electric Vehicle (Nev) in 2012. They had a couple of patent rights war with Scania ( due to the logo Saab has set to observation states ) , and in 2013 all the claims were dismissed and now Saab is all set to roll again with its new release the 2014 SAAB 9-3.

Exterior:

The 2014 SAAB 9-3 looks super stunning with a nice elongated body and looks attractive. The matt metallic finished radiator grille at the front adds an elegant look to this car. The added advantages of this car are its alloy wheels, and its sportive suspension, these things make the car suitable for On-road and Off-road driving too. Fog lights which are present at the rear end of this car are often visible from qualified distances. The side of this car looks even more stunning and the side design resembles the second generation Saab 9-5. The exteriors include Day time Running Lights in the spoiler front and the Bi-xenon headlights cornering around the window are neatly placed.

Review: Safety

Safety is one of the main aspects of this car. We can safely say that the safety features of this car resemble the U.S president’s Cadillac which is considered as one of the safest cars in the world !

  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS) + EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution)
  • TPM (Tire Pressure Monitoring)
  • 2 stage Airbags
  • Cargo shift protection
  • Anti-Theft Alarm
  • Immobilizers
  • Side Impact Protection (roof mounted airbags) on side and roof too.
  • Follow me home functioning program
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Safety Padding System

Power and Performance

Power to this car comes from a 4-cylinder turbocharged straight engine with direct fuel injection which can reach a maximum torque upto Nm350 ECC at 2000-4000 RPM (Rotation per Minute). The company says that the Saab can reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 Secs with a top speed reaching up to 240Kmph. This vehicle is also considered as one of the eco-pro vehicle as it has lowest carbon gas emission rate up to 170/195 g/km. The 6-speed Manual/Auto transmission provides precise amount of power to this car.

Bottom-Line:

By observing all the specs of SAAB 9-3, this wounded soldier can certainly have all the qualities in order to regain its lost title and can certainly rule the automobile world. Hhmm… one day Saab will become Mr.Bond’s choice again as it has all the requisites ( As the tag line says its truly “Born From Jets” ! )

Face Off: Skoda Octavia vs Volkswagen Jetta

The Indian car market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world. With a multitude of cars available in each segment, the Indian buyer is spoil’t with choice 🙂 However, with the SUV craze of the masses hitting its peak in recent times, popularity of some segments have declined so much so that manufacturers are silently pulling out models from showrooms. One such segment is the D segment of sedans. Although the segment does have its fair share of well-engineered cars, the segment has only seen two recent launches over the past few years. Both the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Jetta are incredibly good cars. However, which one is the better buy? Lets take a look at the 2013 Skoda Octavia and its VW brother, the Jetta.

Engine:

Skoda Octavia:Skoda’s products have always been well engineered cars and the Octavia is no exception. On offer for the Indian market are two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.4 L TSI engine and an extremely powerful 1.8 L TSI while the diesel variant houses a 2.0 L turbocharged mill.
[caption id="attachment_1308" align="aligncenter" width="500"]skoda octavia tsi engine The TSI Petrol Engine Used in the Octavia Petrol Variants Is The Same One Used in VW's Jetta[/caption]While the 1.4 L turbocharged petrol engine produces 138 HP and 250 nm of torque, the 1.8 L TSI unit puts out an incredible 177 HP and 250 nm of torque. While most cars in this segment make do with tiny engines, Skoda has seen fit to endow the Octavia with an engine that can rival that of an Audi A4. A fitting engine for the return of a legend.VW Jetta:The Jetta’s engine options pales in comparison to the Octavia’s. Although Volkswagen has provided the very same 1.4 L TSI and 2.0 L TDI engines found on the Octavia, the German car maker has omitted the more powerful 1.8 L TSI unit for the Indian market. Although one may argue that the 1.4 L TSI provides more than enough power, the Jetta will fail to impress driving enthusiasts.Round 1 Winner: Skoda Octavia !

Design:

Skoda Octavia:The Skoda marque has always had a knack for creating cars with an understated elegance about them. Although VW follows the very same design philosophy, the Czechs have always made the right mix of sharp lines and subtle curves to create beautiful cars.
[caption id="attachment_1306" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]skoda octavia front The Skoda Octavia Is Simply Beautiful[/caption]The fusion of the new butterfly grille, LED daytime running lamps and the gentle crest of the bonnet atop which the Skoda emblem sits cannot be described as anything else but "otherworldly". The embodiment of tranquility, Skoda has once again created another beautiful iteration of the legend. The designers have moulded soothing overtones with traces of aggressive elements to create a car that is equal parts subtle and passionate.Volkswagen Jetta:Although the German auto-giant follows the very same minimalist approach to its cars, the Jetta feels far too clinical in terms of design. Despite having all the right curves at all the right places, the Jetta lacks soul. However, the Jetta does have an executive characteristic, a trait most buyers from this segment look for.
[caption id="attachment_1309" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]2014 volkswagen jetta front Although The Jetta Maybe A Good Looking Car, The Skoda Is The Clear Winner[/caption]The no nonsense approach of Volkswagen with the Jetta has resulted in one of the cleanest exteriors of any car from this range. Despite this, there’s no escaping the fact that the Octavia is the clear winner in the looks department.Round 2 Winner: Skoda Octavia !

Interiors:

Skoda Octavia:The understated elegance of the Octavia’s exterior is carried over to its interiors as well. The panoramic sun roof and beige cabin gives the interiors an airy feel. The center console is finished in black and hosts a fully loaded infotainment system complete with a touchscreen display. Physical controls are made of premium plastics and sport chrome accents adding to the car’s upmarket feel. The four spoke steering wheel comes with controls for the entertainment system as well as for the user’s Bluetooth connected phone.
[caption id="attachment_1307" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Interior of the Skoda Octavia Interior of the Skoda Octavia[/caption]Legroom, headroom is ample with enough space to fit five passengers. As with most German saloons, the ergonomics of the interiors are driver centric with all the controls for the entertainment system, rear view mirrors and the like in perfect positions.
[caption id="attachment_1312" align="aligncenter" width="500"]2013 skoda octavia steering wheel The Four Spoke Steering Wheel of the 2013 Skoda Octavia[/caption]Volkswagen Jetta:What the Jetta lacked on its exteriors, it more than makes up for with its cabin. The combination of plush leather, faux wood, quality plastics and silver finishes all around the interiors greatly improve the aesthetics of the car.
[caption id="attachment_1311" align="aligncenter" width="500"]interior of volkswagen jetta Interior of the VW Jetta[/caption]The Jetta comes with a more sensible three spoke steering complete with mounted controls. The Jetta’s interiors don a darker shade of black adding a sporty facet to the executive sedan. Unlike the Octavia, the Jetta instrument cluster is less cluttered and offers better readability.[caption id="attachment_1310" align="aligncenter" width="500"]volkswagen jetta center console The Jetta's Center Console[/caption] Round 3 Winner: its a Draw !

The Drive:

Skoda Octavia:It goes without saying that the Octavia is a splendid car to drive. Despite its large size, one can throw the Skoda into a corner with utmost confidence. The suspension maybe set for a comfortable ride but the Octavia is more than capable of taking a sharp corner. Cabin noise insulation is one of the best in its class.Similar to most new releases, the Octavia comes with an electric power steering. While the new steering system helps in heavy city traffic conditions, the new system lacks the decades of development that conventional hydraulic steering had undergone. As a result, the steering leaves much to be desired.Volkswagen Jetta:The Jetta’s driving dynamic is almost identical in most aspects to the Octavia. However, the Jetta’s engine has been configured for an almost linear power delivery and the Jetta needs to be really pushed hard for it to misbehave. VW’s D segment sedan is a car that’s meant to be driven in and hence this may not come off as a negative aspect to many.Similar to the Octavia, the Jetta also comes with the new electric steering system which does not provide adequate feedback to the driver.Round 4 Winner: its a Draw again !

Verdict:

Although the Volkswagen Jetta is a well balanced offering from the German car maker, cars such as the Chevy Cruze and Hyundai Elantra have been placed in a far more reachable price bracket. As a result, the Jetta hasn't enjoyed its well deserved success in the Indian market. The Octavia too succumbs to this fate. With the Indian consumer's ongoing obsession with SUVs, sedans such as the Octavia and Jetta that are more car for the same price as most entry level SUVs fail to to be recognized for the superb cars that they are.The Czech automaker has always been the underdog in the Indian market. While the Octavia may offer the perfect blend of style and sophistication, the company's notorious after sales service and expensive spare parts swerves buyers to alternatives. However, when it comes to its sublime driving dynamic, features and sheer elegance in its simplicity, the Octavia knows no rival.Liked this post? Please help us spread the word - generously SHARE 🙂

Mahindra Ssangyong Korando: An Overview

South Korean car maker Ssangyong has sold its rights in India to Mahindra, which is considered as one of the leading automobile companies in India. After this takeover, Mahindra Ssangyong has shown its two conceptual SUV releases Rexton and Korando to the public. But the Indian manufacturer showed their priority towards Rexton, as Rexton has features which are quite suitable for the Indian roads. Taking this into consideration Ssangyong has released the Rexton in the Indian market in 2012.

After a successful release, Ssangyong Rexton is slowly getting its share in the Indian market. So after the successful release of Rexton, Mahindra is planning to launch the Korando to the Indian market by making some changes to the likes of the Indian market. The SUV which is going to released soon in the Indian market is the Fifth Generation Korando which was displayed in Busson Motor Show.

Interesting Facts: The name “Koranda” is a historical name of “Korea”. As Ssangyong is a Korean based company it choose the historical name of Korea as its car label.  Giogetto Giugiare is a famous Italian automobile designer who is well known for his designs in Fiat, is also involved in designing this SUV.

Let’s jump back to reviewing some salient features of this car so that we can get to a point where we can decide, whether this car has enough features to rock on the Indian roads & capture millions of hearts or it’s just an ordinary release.

Styling Review

Exterior:

The exterior of the car looks very aggressive and sharp looking. The masculine aspects of the car body are well designed and these looks will be one of the most considerable assets of this car. The angular shaped design and most importantly the large wheel arches with flares look stunning and very catchy. The double lined slat grille on the front gives an added beauty to the front. The back is also neatly designed with dual chrome exhausts complementing the front looks. The hexagonal Fog-lamps with LED touching at the front and high mounted stop lights looks good and well placed. The edgy design at the sides of the car is fantastic and it provides good looks to the car. The roof rails make this car quite suitable for touring. The car has long wheel bases which makes it quite suitable on every road.

Koranda looks

Interior:

The interiors look great and well designed. The dashboard looks out-dated but well-furnished with controls and the console is neatly designed with some tech gadgets such as the satellite navigation systems attached to a central touch screen control system. Not only SATNAV, but many other controlling features of this car are attached to the central touch screen system which makes it quite easy for every user to use it. Other features such as the AC-Vents, Music/IPod Player, Climate Control, Cruise-Control, and Central Locking Systems are also given in this car. The High end model can get heating seats as well. The only drawback in the interior is the presence of some cheap plastic which will impact the rating.

Review: Engine, Performance and Driving

The Ssangyong Korando was initially powered by a 2.0-Litre Isuzu Engine. After having an alliance with Mercedes-Benz, one of the world leading automobile manufacturer the Isuzu engine was replaced by the monstrous 2.3-litre Mercedes-Benz engine. This engine helps Korando tremendously, as many folks turned thier heads to Korando due to this engine upgrade. This monstrous engine has drastically changed the performance of the car as the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine is able to power out 175PS and 360Nm of peak torque and it can reach higher speeds within less time. This power makes the car more suitable for on road and off-road driving. The 6 speed manual/automatic transmission gives a precise and balanced amount of power to the car. The added height due to the large wheel base will surely increase the driving experience as the driver can see the road very clearly. The drawback in this is that the engine is sometimes noisy and produces a harsh grunt.

Safety Review:

With greater performance, the car should have increased safety measure so the peoples inside are safe at high speeds. Hence Ssangyong gives high priority to safety along with performance. The car is provided with safety measures such as the ABS+EBD, Airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) control, Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Active Roll-over Protection (ARP) which certainly adds more protection to this car. These measures have to be provided by Ssangyong, after all the company is targeting 65 dealers across the country. These kinds of features must be provided in order to please them.

Rivalry & Running Cost:

The car faces rivalry from cars such as Chevrolet Captiva, Renault Koleos, Toyota fortuner in its class and in price tag too, as the car is set to have a price tag between 15-20 Lakhs.

Bottom-Line

Like the previous Ssangyong release Rexton and Korando, also will be produced by Mahindra at their Chakan plant with 22 percent localization. This will allow the manufacture to decide its price tag in a decent way ( and yes the company should consider the pricing of its rivals before deciding the price ). If the company sets the price nominal then this car will see the success of the Rexton model. The yes, five year mileage warranty will be considered as one of the best aspects with this car 🙂

Faceoff: BMW 320d vs Audi A4

Audi VS BMW

When it comes to building the most Eco friendly cars, BMW has remained  matchless till date . Bavarian Motor Works commonly know as BMW is one of the three giant  luxury automakers from Germany . BMW owns and produces Mini cars and is the proud parent company of ROLLS  ROYCE motor cars. The all new BMW 320d fastidiously continues the traditional design and the features of a BMW car . The sportingly sophisticated design creates an effect that it has been crafted  from a single mold without failing to strike with the aesthetics and the dynamics at your first glimpse of the vehicle . Even in its sixth generation , BMW 3 series has remained as one of a kind and one of  the most sold BMW cars world wide .Inspired by rich heritage of design and technology , the heart of the BMW appears in the modern and a fabulous  design.

The AUDI A4 is a series of compact executive cars manufactured by the German auto company Audi since the late 1990s , a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. A lot of things have changed since its arrival but one thing has remained same – it is undoubtedly an Audi!  They have set a standard apart and has a class that you can never expect form the other line of luxury cars. The new Audi A4 is made with such craftsmanship and care that is has an ideal balance between performance, efficiency, sportsmanship, supremacy, intelligence and emotion.

Design and Exterior

Audi vs BMW

The 3series is a newer and more improved than the A4 and it looks and sounds real good . It gives you the feeling of its esteemed presence , more the heads that turn to see this machine running on the roads .In terms of visual appearance A4 cant match the stunning looks of the 3series. In the BMW 320d, the side view highlights the crisp contours .The most attractive feature is the extended ascending lines which gives it a stretched optical and also impressive dynamics.Like its predecessors the BMW 320d has a classic 3 box design – coupled with a stunning modern look. The design includes a long bonnet , short front over hang , larger wheel base and a rear-set that promises pure dynamics. The curves traversing from the front to the rear give out a styled coupe like look. Coming to the Audi A4  the three dimensionaly forged out bonnet rounded by a single frame , redesigned air inlets and the the front fog lights is the main attraction to the vehicle . The sleek body lines and contours define the classic saloon silhouette , which gives it a refined and elegant look.

Interior

interiors

The Audi’s interior are similar to its exteriors, but its just not able to match the BMW’s interiors in terms of looks and appearance. The BMW’s interiors manage to dazzle you with its prime quality of materials. It houses the driver with a state of the art guidance system and a cockpit feeling. Ample space design give optimum accesses to all important control functions on the instrument display panel . On the passengers side , a overwhelming atmosphere is created by the instrumental panel combining a sophisticated and a lavish look.High quality and standards are expected with the Audi A4 with its notable soft feel , Matt finish textures and bright work with pure precision assembly . On top of all this it has a classy premium compact saloon look. There is enough leg room and headroom in the rear and a generous boot that can be extended via split folding rear seats. The real disappointment here is the new dashboard which smoothly angles the instruments and the console center looks little outdated .

Engine and Performance

Engine

Both the 177ps AudiA4  and the BMW 320 d sports line arrive with a 2-litre four cylinder , diesel engines . The Audi churns out a 177ps which is pretty obvious, while the BMW manages to churn out 184ps. Surprisingly the peak torque for both the mean machines are same ie. 380Nm .The major distinction between these cars is their gear box. The 320d uses a 8-speed torque converter in contrast the A4 uses the state of the art CVT technology. It is forged to work as an 8-speed auto and a rubber band effect associated with the CVT ( you just cant feel it even when you are driving in full auto mode ).  Even though the 320d gear box seems classy it allows to shift gears effortlessly in drive, in sport or in manual override mode . The Audi is truly a smooth diesel engine , with a spectacular accelerator response and wide power house that runs to a maximum of 5400 Rpm.

Taking the performance into account BMW 320d has nailed it completely ( let the figures do the talking ) : The BMW 320d achieves a higher horse power rating ,and with the 8-speed gear system – it has the capacity to zoom you from 0-100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds. While the Audi in contrast takes 7.8 secs to reach the same magic number. The 3series allows you to throttle all the way up to its maximum speed of 235kmph and the Audi Top speed is about 222kmph.

The Verdict

BMW feels really better when put to hard core driving tests , the Audi A4 is just a simple, splendid car .The A4 has lighter steering better visibility and utterly silent ride. In terms  of performance , looks and the  ability to awe strike you – nothing even comes close to the BMW 320d. Combination of such fabulous economy and performance makes it the best car in its class .The BMW is more fun to ride. Its steering and response feels so alive, that it just keeps rising spirits higher and higher .

So the obvious winner is the BMW 320d sports line .

There might be some other reason that struck you to choose other cars over the 320d but its primarily  subjective and matters related to personal taste!

Nissan Qashqai – a review

Nissan is one of the few automobile companies which are known for superior and elegant design. This Japan based automobile company is now targeting the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) segment with its new release Qashqai. Review: Styling

Exterior:

When it comes to the exteriors the new Qashqai has a better design when compared to the old Qashqai with in-detail and sharp looks. In front, the Nissan Qashqai features a sharp nose with angular headlamps and ravishing running lights made from LED. The twin chrome bars adds a new and trendy look and at back the LED tail-lamps wrap around the corners of the car and on the tailgate makes the car more elegant and classy. The Qashqai body is built with a smooth stream line with advanced aerodynamics with active elements. By looking into all this we can observe that Nissan has done a great rework when it comes to the car’s looks. It truly sets a new benchmark for the crossover design.

Interior:

When it comes to the interiors, Nissan has reinvented the aspects of the car to make it more suitable for family rides. Qashqai interiors are neatly designed with plenty of soft-touch plastics. All the controls are cleverly placed so the driver feels more comfortable using them. The car’s raised height level gives the driver an excellent view of the road and by doing this Nissan has certainly raised the driving levels. The dash board is neatly furnished with an LCD monitor from which the user can perform all the actions in the car with ease.

The company has added another innovative feature to the Nissan Qashqai which is called as the Active Grille Shutter system. This intelligent technology maximizes the cars aerodynamic efficiency by closing off the airflow through the radiator when it is not needed. The grille shutter automatically shuts at speeds over 30kph and only opens if sensors detect that the engine needs cooling and when it cools it is automatically shut again. This is a new feature invented by Nissan and is debuting with this car.

Review: Driving Performance & Engine

When it comes to the engine, Qashqai has 3 variant 1.6-Litres Diesel (High-range), 1.5-Litres Diesel (Mid-range), 1.2-Litres Petrol (Low-range). The 1.5-Litres Diesel engine can reach 0-60mph in 12.4 seconds which is not a considerable range for a car like this. If you are a guy who likes speed and is willing to pay for the speed the 1.6-Litres Diesel is the best choice to give this car a good speed as the 1.6-Litres Diesel engine can reach 0-60mph in just 10.5 seconds while the low end 1.2-Litres petrol can reach 0-60mph in 11.3 seconds.

Both 1.6-Litres and 1.5-Litres Diesel engines are quite good for a car like this, but 1.5-Litres Diesel is worth for its price tag while the high end has a slight high price tag. With this engine the driving experience is smooth and the greatest advantage that lies in this is that the fuel-economy is high. The precise combination of throttle response with 6 speed gear box delivers a great driving at experience. The turnings on the city roads are very smooth due to the raised ground clearance as now the driver will about to get a clear view of the road. The steering grip is high and breaking individual wheels in a precise manner delivers more positive turn-in. The 360 camera assist system is quite handy while parking the car as it gives a 360 degrees view of the backside. But the disadvantage in this system is that its allotted only for the high-end model.

Review: Safety

Qashqai (old) was awarded with five star rating for the safety measures by test body Euro NCAP. While the new one is also offering the best possible safety measures which includes the individual tire breaking system, 6 Air bags ( 4 for front and two for rear ), and stability control system. The high and middle level Qashqai also offers smart vision pack which includes systems that warn if you’re going out of your lane or in danger of having a collision with obstacles. An image showing the safety test under Euro NCAP.

Running Cost & Rivals:

As far as the price tag goes many prices are specualted in the market, but the actual pricing is not confirmed yet by the company. Even the so called low end model also has the basic features such as iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, Cruise control system, AC-vents which many other companies that don’t offer s for a low end model think. However the mid and high end are equipped with more add-on features. I think Nissan should hold its value better than the rival models from companies such as Mazda, Ford, Hyundai, and Vauxhall.

Bottom-line:

For me the Nissan Qashqai is a power packed car as it has all the features what that are needed. But we have to wait for the official release of the price tag to see how deep a pocket one needs. If the price is set to an affordable range then I am sure that this will be one of the best model to watch out for, as it has all the qualifications which can help to seize the market from its rivals.

Review: Styling & Looks

Exterior:

The newly unveiled Maruti SX4 S Cross comes with good looks and with a bit of smart and glossy design that can impress you in the first glance itself. The Exterior looks quite similar to the 2006 release SX4 Sedan. The front look gets a three piece chrome plated black grille with the studded Suzuki logo at middle of the grille. The head lights are also similar to the old release except that the new release gets the daytime LED’s and projector headlamps. In addition to this, there is an protective cladding made from aluminium under the bumper that can provide additional protection to the front from sudden strokes and as well as also from minor accidents. The wheels are fitted with a diamond shaped alloy which looks trendy and classy. While the rear end of this car also has a rear bumper with a metal platted finish same as front bumper and the tail lamps have a new classy and edgy design. The side looks are slightly changed with elongated doors for a good entry and as well as exit.

Interiors:

When it comes to interiors it looks neat and well-furnished and the design of the interiors look similar as in the Maruti’s Swift Hatchback model. Especially the steering wheel and the instrument clusters look very similar to the Swift. The dashboard looks quite simple and sophisticated with an integrated infotainment system, gearbox console, AC unit and other control buttons which are placed in smart way so that the user will be able to handle them easily. The seats are covered with premium black leather upholstery that gives a luxurious feel to people seated inside the car. The rear seats can accommodate three people comfortably and will fold down to expand the boot space at the back and the boot space is quite large in order to accommodate all things inside.

Maruti SX4 S-Cross features

Review: Engine & Performance:

When it comes to engine, the SX4 S-Cross comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol version is expected to be powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre Multi-jet engine (1586cc displacement). It can produce a maximum power of 118Bhp at 5600 to 6000rpm, and this engine can generate a maximum torque output of 156Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm, which is quite impressive. This petrol version is expected to be powered with a 5-speed manual along with a CVT gearbox option. The entry level or low level diesel variants could be offered with a 4-cylinder, 1.3-litre engine having a 1248cc displacement capacity which is also considerably good if the car price is set to minimum.

With these engines the car is set have a good acceleration as the company is saying that the 1.6-Litre Multi-jet engine can reach 100 Kmph speed in just 11.3 to 11.5 seconds. The car can reach up to a maximum speed of about 185 Kmph. While the 1.6-Litre Petrol engine mill is expected go up gear up to a top speed of 170 Kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph speed in 10 to 11 seconds which is also quite impressive.

This car also has great safety features such as dual front air bags, ABS+EBD, central locking system, engine immobilizer, seat belts, side impact beams. With all these we can say that the car has  great safety measures.

Bottom-Line:

Maruti is said to be one of the largest manufactures for the Indian market and well known for its good designs. We expect Maruti to release this car at a reasonable price tag so that it can be a tough competitor for its rivals.

Mitsubishi Mirage – an expert review

Hello everyone, today lets discuss about a car which is manufactured by a company that has 3 diamonds in its logo. Not only that ,the cars from them are also worth as of a diamond! [ oh yeah Am a fan 🙂 ]   One of my favorite actor, Jackie Chan has a sponsoring agreement with them. Guess what? I am talking about Mitsubishi.

And today, I am going to give preview about its soon to be launched in India car – Mitsubishi Mirage!

Mirage is a mid–ranged compact car which was released recently by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Mitsubishi. We already know that Mitsubishi cars are well known for its sporty design, performance and also for its unmatched quality. Mitsubishi has unveiled its new Mirage to the market recently. Way back in 1989 Mitsubishi has won 10 best wins in global automobile market industry with its Mirage Turbo. Mitsubishi wants to repeat this through its new Mirage. Will new Mirage help Mitsubishi to regain that title..? lets wait and see, read on…

Technical-Specifications:

Before getting into reviewing the aspects of the new mirage lets go through the technical specifications of this car so that we can get a basic view about the aspects of this car.

Mitsubishi Mirage review

Design:

I have already stated that Mitsubishi cars are known for its design and build quality but when it comes to the new Mirage we should consider that Mitsubishi should give some more attention in order to give this car a new and trendy design. When it comes to the looks, Mirage looks quite similar to Chevrolet Spark with big eyes like head lights, charming and big oversize mirrors.

With the comparison with the Chevy spark, Mirage is stands nearly148.8 inches long, 65.6 inches wide and 59.1 inches tall, the Mitsubishi Mirage is slightly larger than the Chevy Spark, yet it offers a bit less passenger volume than the Chevy. The only considerable advantage anyone should expect is that with this design, it is easy to park with good visibility all around.

Performance:

The power to the car comes from a 1.2-liter inline three-cylinder engine delivering 74 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 74 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Considering the balance between weight of this car & the power generated by this car through automatic variable transmission, the balance is quite appropriate and handy. Its manufacturer Mitsubishi has estimated that the car can reach 62 miles per hour in 12.8 seconds with the CVT, or a most likely 11.7 seconds with the five-speed manual gear shift which is actually slow, but I think its good enough to drive a car with this speed on city roads, when it comes to highways you might expect a little more power on the tap.

Mitsubishi Mirage reviewImage Source:  www.barriemitsubishi.ca

Interior:

A touch of piano black on the center console and bonnet looks good and neatly furnished. The front seats are spacious enough to fit for everyone. One drawback I observed with the interior is the absence of a telescoping steering wheel which is quite disappointing. The entering and out from the car can be done quite easily due to the presence of big doors. Coming to the rear seats, they dont seem to be spacious enough when we compare them with the front seats.

Mitsubishi Mirage interiorsImage Source: www.autoblog.com

Exterior:

Exterior styling is mostly filled with 15-inch steel rims with hub caps. A pair of bulbous and large headlamps dominate the front part of the car and the small window fitted on the back decorates the rear end. It also equipped with two rare view mirrors for good visibility all around. The exterior is quite simple and little old styled.

Mitsubishi Mirage car reviewImage Source: www.autoblog.com

Safety:

The Mitsubishi Mirage will be more suitable for driving on city roads, with a five star ANCAP safety score, mirage offers great security measures. This is one of the best aspects of this car. Six airbags are packed into the cabin to protect all people who are present inside. The suspension is also good enough to tackle all the challenges on city roads. Not sure whether this will be a optional one when they launch in India.

Pro’s : Fuel efficiency, Low price tag, Safety features, Interiors

Not so good stuff : After sales service, Highly competitive segment

Bottom Line: There is a tough competition for a car to compete in a compact car segment as this segment is liked by more people due to the reasons of affordability and decent maintenance cost. Mitsubishi Mirage comes into the compact as well as sub compact segment, so competition is huge.  The most desirable features must be given to its price tag for the Mirage to make value-for-money. These feature can help Mirage to withstand in the tough competition arena. Mitsubishi has ambitions to launch a series of models in India by 2016. Lets wait and watch!!!

Face Off : Hyundai Verna vs Honda City

Hyundai has been on a roll, ever since the launch of the Fluidic Verna – here in India. Unleashing a barrage of new models in every possible segment, the South Korean automaker has managed to displace market veterans Honda and Maruti from their top spots in various segments.

hyundai-verna-rear

With the lack of a diesel engine, Honda’s sales steadily declined and with ever increasing fuel rates, the situation looked bleak for the Japanese car manufacturer. However, with the recently introduced i-DTEC diesel engine, Honda quickly regained momentum and sales of the diesel Amaze quickly that put the car maker back on the map. The release of the new City with a diesel option marked the beginning of Honda’s return into the premium sedan segment.

front-3-quarters-honda-city-2014

We have put two of the best sedans in the market right now against each other and see how they fare.

Design:

Honda City:

The latest gen Honda City builds on the sporty appeal of the previous gen models. The front end has been tweaked to give the sedan a sleeker look. The front headlamps are now thinner and longer aiding to the car’s aesthetic appeal. The aggressively styled fog lamp enclosures and tail lamps are a huge improvement from the outgoing model. Honda has also added a sunroof, a feature not available even on the top end Verna.

front-head-lights-honda-city

Hyundai Verna:

Hyundai debuted its fluidic design philosophy with the Verna in India. The South Korean car maker’s edgy design, paints an image of an entity in perpetual motion. Honda may have brought the City back into fighting shape, but few sedans come close to the new Verna’s striking exterior. The aggressively styled front end is a far cry from the spiritless shape of the previous generation model and the car definitely stands out in a crowd.

Round 1 Winner: Hyundai Verna

Interior:

Honda City:

The City’s interior is an attractive blend of beige and black. The piano black centre console complete with a touchscreen system is stunning. The touch sensitive controls for the air conditioning is also a nice touch. The touchscreen infotainment system is the only one in its class and doubles up as the rear parking camera display as well. However, the piano black finish around the center console is prone to smudges and fingerprints. The silver accents along the steering wheel and various other regions around the cabin combined with leather upholstery to improve the car’s upmarket feel.

Cabin space is good with four adults being able to sit comfortably. With an increased wheelbase, the new City offers as much space as the Nissan Sunny. However, the City could do better with a pair of rear AC vents.

interiors-honda-city

Hyundai Verna:

The Hyundai Verna’s interior is as impressive as its exterior. The cabin is large and roomy but does not provide the same amount of space as the City. However, quality of materials used are superb.  A combination of faux woodwork and premium plastics endow the Verna with a cabin that can even rival luxury car makers.

However, the infotainment system is quite old and lacks a multi-function touchscreen display.

Round 2 Winner: Its a Draw !

Under the Hood:

Honda City:

For the first time ever, the new Honda City comes with both petrol and diesel options. While the petrol variant is the familiar 1.5 L i-VTEC engine that produces 117 HP at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 4600 RPM, the diesel engine is the engine you’d buy the new City for. The 1.5 L i-DTEC engine produces 99 HP at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque. While that may not be tarmac shredding figures, the main aim of the new diesel engine is fuel efficiency and it definitely delivers. With a mileage of 26 km/L, the new Diesel City offers the best in class fuel economy.

Both engines are mated to a six speed manual gearbox with the petrol offering a five speed automatic as well. Safety wise, the City offers dual airbags, ABS and central locking.

Hyundai Verna:

The Verna also offers a petrol and diesel. The petrol engine is a powerful 1.6 L unit that produces 121 BHP @ 6300 RPM and 155 Nm of torque @ 4200 RPM. The petrol Verna is equipped with both – a five speed manual and a four speed gearbox.

Hyundai offers two diesel engines for the Fluidic Verna. While one is a more economical 1.4 L oil burner, the other is a more powerful 1.6 L unit. The smaller engine produces 89 HP and 224 Nm of toque while the more powerful unit produces an impressive 126 HP and 260 Nm of torque. However mileage takes a hit with the diesel variants giving 23.5 km/L and 22.32 km/L respectively. Both numbers far lower than that of the City’s.

The top end variant sports all sorts of safety features such as six airbags, ABS, EBD and brake assist.

Round 3 Winner: Its a Draw again !

The Drive:

Honda City:

As with all Honda cars, the drive is simply superb. The suspension setup is soft but stiff enough to take around a corner. Steering sensitivity is well proportioned allowing for better confidence around twisty roads. The diesel motor however, is quite unrefined and the cabin succumbs to a large amount of noise from the engine. However, we did find that the reverse gear caused a few issues at times.

Boot space is more than ample. With a class leading boot space of 510 L, the City is perfect for those long family vacations.

Hyundai Verna:

Here’s where the Hyundai Verna loses out. While the South Korean car maker has focused on packing more features, it has failed to work on the car’s driving dynamics. As a result, the Verna comes off as a mixed bag. Though the power under the bonnet is impressive, the soft suspension has been tuned for comfort rather than out for speed. As with the i20, the driver in you might be a little disappointed.

However, the softer suspension means a better ride over the pot hole ridden streets of India.

Round 4 Winner: Honda City

Verdict:

Both cars are excellent, however, the City has a slight edge over the Verna. While both sedans are the segment’s best sellers, there is a reason why Honda managed to displace Hyundai from its top spot. The City has always been a long standing favorite of the Indian consumer. Offering the right mix of driving dynamics, style, space and reliability, the Honda City’s only drawback was the lack of a diesel engine. Now, with the new Earth Dreams diesel mill, the City is back with a bang!!!

It is controlled by a holding company – a Japanese car manufacturing establishment Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki has a variety of vehicles available in the Indian market  from the outset level the Alto, to the hatchbacks Ritz, A-Star, Swift, Wagon R, Zen and the sedans DZire, Kizashi and SX4 etc. to the ‘C’ segment Eeco, Omni, Multi Purpose vehicle Suzuki Ertiga and Sports Utility vehicle Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki

Alto 800 is a kei car( It is a Japanese categorization of small passenger carsengineered and manufactured by Suzuki. The contemporary model is currently in its seventh generation. The first of its kind emerged in 1979 and was manufactured in several countries worldwide. The all new Maruti Alto 800 has undergone a lucid face lift with all new bodies and interiors. It replace’s its first generation Alto keeping the old 796cc engine. The most captivating fact is that, although being India’s best selling  car, the price tag of Alto was also lowered with the change in the model. Several methods were implied to lower the price . These include lowering the weight of each and every part down by even a single gram and also including their own robots for manufacturing purposes.

Interior:

The cabin in the new Alto 800 is refined completely to give it an elegant look and feel. The result is superior interior quality and more comfortable environment and more space inside the car.Whats more is you get to choose between cool looking brown and grey interiors.

Performance and Specs:

maruti-alto-800-gear-087The latest remodeled Alto 800 arrives with a 796cc petrol mill which was also used in its  presiding models , with obvious tweaks over them.A  796cc , 3 cylinder petrol engine is the powerhouse of the Alto 800 that grinds out a maximum of 47.5bhp at 6000rpm at its peak of 69Nm of torque produced at 3500rpm.

What puts it aside from its predecessors is the fact that it maintains the Bharat Stage IV emission norms ( Which makes it one of the most Eco friendly kei cars in India ). Apart from turning down the emissions the MSI engineers have worked pretty well upon the NVL levels .The Alto comes with a 5-gear transmission, which gives a smooth gear shift and superior driving experience.  Taking into account the acceleration and pick up, Maruti suzuki is categorized under the small cars 796cc category and still packs a punch .The acceleration is excellent when compared to the rest of the small cars in the market. The new improved and face lifted power mill can accelerate you from 0 to a 100km within a time duration of 15 to 16 seconds, with the top speed of about 120 kmph .For the CNG versions the magic 100kmph from 0 takes about 17 to 18 seconds. This is clear-cut evidence that the performance has been modified brilliantly .

Mileage :

IMG_20140717_155120It is the typical Indian mentality that mileage is given preference over performance of the car . It is undoubtedly crowned as the peoples car of India .Alto 800 returns with the fantastic mileage of 22.74kmpl on petrol and 33kmpl on CNG making it  the most fuel efficient car in the present Indian automobile market .The new Alto maintains respectable performance without compromising on the mileage ,making it the most affordable car .If you want to go ECO friendly by using CNG and also get a car which is affordable and easy to maintain – Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is for sure the best choice for you !

Dispiriting Facts about the new Alto 800 :

One of the most disappointing  factor I found  was the really weak body . Just the slightest of hits and bumps can result in great damage to the car ( A Scooter hit my Alto 800 from the back at a normal speed but the right back bumper of the car got destroyed)

If you are pure power aficionado it might be disappointing for you. The acceleration is considerably weak compared to other cars in the market .

The interior is considerably comfortable but it doesn’t have a  lavish and and attractive look.

-When you run CNG the engine performance is reduced by a great amount, especially when you even have the AC turned on.

BOTTOM LINE :

Without question, it is the most fuel efficient car available in the market. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has improved performance and mileage and also at a very affordable price tag.

There is this saying ” Two birds with one Bullet ” so running your Alto 800 on CNG saves you money and also reduce’s the harmful emissions !
