TESLA Model X: First Electric Car

"Tesla Model X"

Tesla Motors have finally created and unveiled their full-size luxury crossover utility vehicle. Tesla unveiled this car at Tesla’s design studios in Los Angeles on February 9, 2012. The car is named Model X and was developed from the full-size sedan platform of the Tesla Model S and is being produced with it at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California.

According to reports, Americans had bought around 5,30,000 SUVs and crossovers only in September. This sums up to a 30 % increase in the sales. An electric vehicle that fits and un-electrified large crossover segment does make perfect sense. But, building the Model X was not just a vision of creating a typical crossover. It happens to be the world’s first mass-produced Electric vehicle crossover.

Here is a preview at the X model by Tesla:

Design:

Unveiled on the 29th of September 2015, and features a panoramic windshield. This happens to be the safest SUV in terms of frontal and side impact crash according to Elon Musk.

Yes, this vehicle has falcon doors that avoid collision with nearby objects when opened. The company claims that the car features the first true HEPA Filter in a car, with medical grade cabin air cleanliness comparable to that of a hospital operating room. When the car operates at maximum capability (enabled with a “Bioweapon Defense Mode” button), Tesla claims that no viruses, bacteria or spores can be detected in the cabin.

Tech Specs:

It is claimed that the Model X will weigh 8% more than Tesla’s Model S and share around 30% of its parts. The vehicle with a choice of two lithium-ion battery packs. The batteries are rated at either 70 or 90 kW:h– the same choices available on the Model S as well as the highest performance version of the model P90D that goes from 0 to 100 in just 3.2 seconds. Surprisingly, this car outperforms various sports cars and SUV’s too. The Model X features an all-wheel drive system that uses two motors for front and rear wheels. The model X carries an official EPA rated 310 mi or 500 km range according to the European NEDC testing cycle.

Talks suggest that the company was planning on offering a rear-wheel drive version. However, the company seems to have scrapped those plans and included all wheel drive. The standard AWD version of the car has 259 HP on each front and rear motors whereas, the performance edition of the Model X has 259 Hp in the front and 503 Hp on its rear side. It also has an optional tow bar that has a towing capacity of 2300 kilos. The wheelbase of the Model X is 120.5 inches or 3061 mm. The length, width and height of this crossover utility vehicle is 197 x 82 x 64 inches respectively.

Features:

The seven-seater car named Model X hits around 250 miles per charge and this is a mighty impressive USP of the car. In addition to the marvelous aesthetics of this car, it has emergency automatic braking for safety. An automatic steering function will monitor lane lines to keep the vehicle in its lane without driver input, and automatic parking. A suite of radar and sonar sensors and a forward-facing camera make the technology possible, and Tesla says periodic software updates will automatically upload improvements to the systems over the airwaves.

"Tesla model X"

In keeping with Tesla’s reputation for building cars the well heeled will appreciate, the Model X is imbued with a number of luxurious touches. Intuitive doors open automatically for the driver, and the infotainment stack features a massive 17-inch display screen. The little road noise allowed to enter the cabin will be moot against the Model X’s 17-speaker stereo system. Interior air is purified for the Tesla elite, with a Hepa filter system that ducts air in through the vehicle’s front fascia. This might sound like a dream, but it is real!

Production and Price:

Ever since its inception, the Model X happens to be Tesla’s third car to be launched since 2003. After Tesla’s Roadster, Model S (Saloon car) and recorded a sales figure of 75,000 vehicles. The Model X was a debutant in 2012, but due to engineering delays, the car launch was delayed to 2014. Deliveries of the Model X are patience-busters for sure. It takes 8-10 months to get your vehicle delivered.

"Model X"

From pricing perspective, the pricing for the limited edition Model X varies between US$132,000 and US$144,000. The standard production versions of the Model X costs $5,000 more than a comparably equipped AWD Model S that is priced atUS$75,000 for the base Model 70D.

Sustainability wise, it is surely going to be awkward for the Model X to cope up with a $ 1,30,000+ price tag.

For many people who have a lot of money, buying a Tesla is as much buying into Elon’s vision as it is about the product,” Brett Smith, an analyst with the Center for Automotive Research, said in an interview. “You become part of something great.”

Bottom Line:

Tesla Model X is surely a technological marvel that had to happen. Its price might seem extreme, but Elon’s vision combined with a whole lot of technology cannot be ignored

Ferrari F12 BERLINETTA:

F 12 Berlinetta was announced in 2012 at the Geneva Motor show. This is the fastest road-going Ferrari ever made.

Outside:

The Ferrari F 12 is a pioneer and throwback. The Ferrari F12 is lower, shorter, narrower, lighter and faster than others. It leads a path leading design that looks pretty amazing. The F12 is more than 200mm longer than the 275 GTB but its short overhangs visually reduce its mass, and its cabin-rear profile contributes to a classic sports car silhouette. The map appears in the right-hand screen in the binnacle and relays directional prompts as well. Programming is quite lengthy by the standards of the best premium brands, but Ferrari says there’s voice control for it.

Other standard equipment includes an anti-theft satellite system, a rear parking camera, an electrically adjustable steering wheel, climate control, cruise control and temperature monitoring.

Upcoming car launches in 2015

"Skoda Octavia Anniversary edition"

Car trend in India is on a rapid spree. Car manufacturers are undeniably putting in their best brains at work to provide more features, more style, more comfort and more safety. Here is an article that highlights the latest launches that are going to drive the new breed of driving enthusiasts.

MARUTI SUZUKI ERTIGA FACELIFT:

Maruti Ertiga entered the market in 2012, ever since it hasn’t received any update. However, with the increase in demand and the rise in competition Maruti Suzuki has finally given Ertiga a new and refined upgrade.

The updated Suzuki Ertiga has received a couple of interesting changes on the exterior and interior. The diesel has also received a tweak.

 Outside:

The new Ertiga has received minor cosmetic changes that are present and make it a little different from its predecessor. The most obvious change is the two-slat grille that is placed instead of the current four-slat. The car has chrome embellished on it to enhance the appeal. The front air intakes of the car are slightly changed in accordance with the bumper. The sides have retained the same silhouettes but, there is an addition of the electronically foldable OVRM. The rear profile also gets a taste of chrome with a few obvious modifications to make it appear a tad different than the current model.

"2015 Maruti Ertiga Facelift"

Inside:

The Facelift has pretty much the same layout similar to the predecessor model. The addition lies in the features that are quite similar to the ones found in the Swift Dzire facelift. This MUV gets the start-stop button as a standard addition (on the top end variant). The car’s music system is upgraded to give it a better connectivity. The Hybrid variants of Ertiga come with OVRM mirrors. Not bad for upgrades and such, it is surely a satisfying upgrade.

"Ertiga 2015"

 Engine:

The Petrol power train on this vehicle has not been touched. The engine provides the same power from its 1.4 litre petrol consuming 94 bhp, 130 Nm torque producing engine. However, if you’re a diesel head and are hoping for good news, the Ertiga will surely make your day. The Diesel variant comes mated onto SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology.  This technology improves the efficiency of the car to a great extent. The car comes with a 1.3 litre Fiat Multi Jet diesel engine that produces 89 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. A large battery along with excellent braking and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) comes accompanied with this car.

 Price:

The price of the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ranges from Rs. 5.82 lakhs to Rs. 8.60 lakhs.  Maruti has aggressively priced this car to give it more credibility on roads.

VENTO FACELIFT:

Volkswagen albeit its moment of turmoil, has not forgotten to contribute new cars, with extra “concern” over pollution. The company recently launched its new and refreshed successfully running sedan-the Vento.

The new Vento Facelift edition has additional features, new engine with better mileage, a more ornately designed body and a well-built C-segment sedan finish.

This new vehicle certainly takes on the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz as well as Hyundai Verna. Here is a review on the new face-lift vento:

Outside:

On the outside, the design language of the new Vento hasn’t changed much. The layout of the body panel remains almost the same. The new Vento exudes the typical VW layout of the body panel. The front and rear end have taut shoulder lines accompanied with a compact profile. There are however a few subtle updates in terms of the design that make differentiation possible.

The bonnet on this car has been re-profiled and has deeper creases along with triple chrome slats and a new front grille.

The car also gets new front air dam, new front fog lamps and integrated cornering lights. Although, the design language doesn’t speak out loud with prominence, the details have been set in quite an intricate fashion that differentiates the face lifted version over its predecessor.

"2015 VW Vento Facelift"

Inside:

Volkswagen seems to have been a little sly with the Interior design of the new Vento. However, the new color themes come with a new equipment list according to the car’s trim level. The new Vento gets cruise control, cooled glove box and a dead pedal that adds to the new feature list. Standard features on this car include climate control, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, ABS, twin airbags and a rather good sounding audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. Interiors have been tweaked a little, but the feature set seems to have gathered a few likes.

Engine:

The car’s diesel version features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 103bhp of power @4400rpm and 250Nm of torque @1550rpm. This TDI unit makes peak power at 2,000rpm and redlines at nearly 6,000rpm. The petrol model of this car comes with 1.6-litre MPI or the 1.2-litre turbocharged TSI engine. The latter produces 105bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, while the 1.6 MPI engine produces 105bhp of power and 153Nm of torque. The company offers a 5-speed and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox in accordance with the versions.

Price:

The new facelift version of the vento starts from Rs 7.70 lakh for the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol, going all the way to Rs 11.6 lakh for the top-end diesel with DSG gearbox. Overall, this vehicle is a great choice for those looking for a comfortable family sedan.

Outside:

Skoda has transcended towards the introduction of soft lines and rounded edges to change Octavia’s look into a premium and modish car. The car gets LED DRL’s and a new front grille and carries vertical stats, thereby making it look plenty aggressive. The new Octavia has quite a sustainably long and wide body. This makes it quite spacious especially giving a lot of cabin space for the passengers.

Battle of the hatchbacks: 2015 Maruti Swift Facelift vs 2015 Ford Figo

"Ford Figo vs Swift"

Hatchback cars are gaining plenty of reputation in India. The advent of the new era has given rise to new hatchbacks that adorn new looks, new features and make it worth spending your precious dough. To give you a perfect reasoning to boast the bang for your bucks, here is an awesome review on Ford’s Figo Hatchback versus the tough, versatile and the popular Maruti Swift Facelift.

Ford Figo:

Figo Facelift version has gained its popularity in the premium hatchback segment amid the buzz of various other entrants in the hatchback segment. With competitors being generous with additional features, extra offers and more interior space, the efforts are on to bring down the leading hatchback. The 2015 Ford Figo is the successor of the old Figo. This happens to be the trimmed down version of the Aspire that was launched by Ford not too long ago. Anticipation was a definite factor with the Figo and Ford did the same on 23rd of September by launching the new breed of Figo that bags a starting price tag of Rs. 4.29 lakhs and the diesel starts off at Rs. 5.29 lakhs.

Maruti Suzuki Swift (face lift)

In my recent review on the Face lift version of the Swift, Figo Facelift had not made its grand entry. However, with its strong sales figures and an unbeatable credibility, Maruti seems to get the creamy layer of the ever-expanding market in India. The basic price of Swift petrol starts off at Rs. 4.64 lakhs and the diesel variant starts at Rs. 5.84 lakhs. Will the Swift withstand the harsh thrust of Ford Figo? Let’s find out:

Engine:

Driving the Ford Figo Facelift are 1.2-liter Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5 liter diesel variants. The re launched version churns out a maximum power output of 87 bhp and a peak torque of 112 Nm.

"Maruti Swift vs Ford Figo"

The Swift on the other hand comes with a K-Series Petrol Engine and a diesel variant too that churns about 83 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. That sais and done, the clear winner of this challenge is the Swift that delivers 20.4 kmpl mileage. The figo petrol comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox whereas the diesel comes with a 6-speed gearbox. The Swift comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Power 87bhp 83bhp
Torque 112 Nm @ 4000 rpm 115 Nm @ 4000 rpm
Cylinders 4 4
Mileage 18.16 kmpl 20.4 kmpl

Exteriors:

Both the car look spectacular and it is difficult to differentiate between the two rivals in the looks department. However, since the new Figo is the new kid in town, the looks seem a tad enticing.

"Ford Figo vs Swift"

The Swift has retained the same design as it has since the beginning. The Face-lift version has a new grille; the mid-level models have chrome finishing on the fog lamps and look pleasing. The ground clearance on the Figo is 4 mm where as the Swift stumps down to 2 mm.

Dimensions Ford Figo Maruti Swift

Ground Clearance 174 mm 170 mm

Interior and Space:

The Swift has a less boot space than compared to the Ford Figo. The Swift seems quite crammed up and the passengers might have to suffer through the small space and has a boot space of just 205 liters. The Figo on the other hand has 257 Liters capacity. The drivers’ comfort on the Swift is the best in its class; the stubby looking swift has quite a receptive steering and pairs up with the driver quite comfortably. The Figo is quite good, given its features and such. The Swift has quite an exciting instrument cluster and its music player is simply fabulous. The 4 speakers located on the rear side of each door has terrific sound effect and it adds extra thumps to the music. The Figo has decent speakers but the swift rocks the music all the way.

1.5 Trend+ Rs 6.22 lakh
1.5 Titanium Rs 6.72 lakh
1.5 Titanium+ Rs 7.40 lakh

Bottom Line:

The Figo base model offers a few extra knick-knacks. In terms of safety, the Figo has driver airbag covered up even with the basic variant. With a new appeal that costs a little lesser than Swift, the Figo creates a space for itself. However, the obvious fact regarding Maruti Suzuki’s extensive coverage along with its credibility is definitely in Swift’s favour. The service standards, low maintenance cost and accessibility of Maruti beat all odds and this is a great challenge for Ford.

Bentley Bentayga: First Production SUV

"Bentley bentayga"

Bentley has launched some of the most spectacular looking cars worldwide. The brand is one of the most sought after luxury car brand. With the launch of various high-end offerings suited for plutocrats, the company has followed a rather different approach by announcing the launch of an upcoming SUV.

What’s Bentayga?

In January 2015, Bentley had officially unveiled the name Bentayga. Inspired by Taiga, the world’s largest transcontinental snow forest, and composing the first four letters of Bentley comes the name Bentayga. Bentley had supposedly drawn inspiration from the rugged peak of the Roque Bentayga in Gran Canaria, Canary Island.

The Bentayga is a four seat, five-door luxury SUV that has a uni-body construction. This car is a VW offering and it does make perfect sense that Volkswagen had its W12 engine mated to this beast SUV. This all wheel drive vehicle is based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform, same as the one used in the 2nd generation Audi Q7.

The Bentayga is the company’s first production SUV and is an evolution of the 2012 Bentley EXP 9 F concept car.

Design:

The design team behind the making of this marvel had pushed limits to deliver an innovative design that carries a beautifully sculpted one-piece fender that includes a stunning light design. Bentley employed all of the VW Group’s experience in aluminum with hot super form technology used to shape the huge fender panel with enough precision to allow a crease with a 3mm radius plus a delightful sculpting that runs alongside it. The Bentayga’s twin headlights provide the perfect balance of technology and jewellery’ with knurled beveling around the inside and a Bentley logo embedded in the LED lights. The precision with which the headlights are recessed in the fender panel is again down to the super form process, yet the lenses sit flush with the bodywork.

"Bentley Bentayga"

The outer LED daytime running lights change color to act as indicators, while the high-pressure headlamp washers actually sit in the centre of the outer lights. The Bentayga is 5141mm long, 1742 high and 2223mm wide – bigger in every respect than either the Q7 or the Cayenne, but slightly shorter and a lot lower than a Range Rover Sport. The exterior design makes the Bentayga the most luxurious SUV in the world.

Interiors:

"Bentley Bentayga"

Intricate level of attention has gone into the interior as Bentley’s head of interior design Darren Day explains. “We’ve used a similar ‘winged’ design to the dash as in Mulsanne and GT, but with upper and lower wings,” he told us, “And we’ve worked hard to integrate the technology in a Bentley way.”

"Bentley bentayga interiors"

The interior cabin is opulent as a king’s throne. The innards are perfect enough to make you forget what’s on the outside. To start with, the car has Fifteen veneered pieces of wood trim that go into the cabin and the customers have the liberty to choose among 7-different varieties of dead tree to accent one of 15 shades of naturally tanned bull hide. The leather covers for this SUV are 22-way adjustable (that’s right, twenty two way adjustable) front chairs with massage functionality. It also has 18-way adjustable rear seats in 4-place models. To add to comfort, there is a rear bench facility too. And if you need more from an impromptu ride towards a lovely sunset or a serene locale, you get a folding “even seat”that is upholstered to match the Bentayga’s interior.

"Bentley bentayga"

To add to this, the Bentayga has an 8-inch touch screen that gains access to the infotainment system that includes night vision and a head-up display. It also includes safety features such as Traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and self-parking.Rear seat passengers can get a Bentley-branded 10.2-inch Android tablet, which will make use of on-board wifi.Rear passengers get the same level of opulence as front seat passengers.

Engine and performance:

The Bentayga will be the first car to receive Bentley;s new Twin-turbo W12 engine. The 6.0 L twin-turbo will have an estimated 600 hp and 900 Nm of torque. This will enable the bentayga to thrust from 0 to 100 kmph under 5 seconds. This vehicle has an 8-speed transmission that splits torque with 60% to rear and 40% to the front. The Bentayga can touch a maximum speed of a whooping 301 kmph. The car carries an active anti-roll system (EWAS) that reduces the body roll.

Price:

The official price of the Bentayga is in the dark. However, with all the speculated prices floating around the internet, the Bentayga should be aggressively priced in the likes of a Rolls Royce.

Wrap up:

Interestingly enough, the Bentayga was a showstopper at the Frankfurt Motor show this year. Bentley is said to have invested £800 million in a new facility in Crewe. It has also hired 1000 employees to meet the demand for 3000 to 4000 SUV’s annually.

2016 Audi A8 L Security- Safest Audi on the Planet

"Audi A8 L Security"

Audi’s most exclusive model happens to be the A8 L Security. Although this model is not the fastest or the most powerful among the lot, but it is undoubtedly the toughest Audi built.

Although you might think that this is a sedan that looks just like any other car, you’d know the difference when the need arises. However, this isn’t a sedan, it belongs to the limousine category of vehicles. It surely comes as a surprise as to the category classification of this car. But, well Audi has done it for a reason. In the meantime, here is a brief article that secures all the details about this safe on wheels:

Exterior:

This vehicle is armored with the best available materials. Don’t be fooled by its appearance from the outside. The A8 L Security appears just like any other car. However, the details and the precision that went into building this armored monstrosity is aesthetically way different. Once the skin of this hard to crack vehicle is peeled off, the vehicle reveals a literal fortress on wheels. This heavily armored limousine has a safety cell built that’s fortified with aramid fabric, special aluminum alloys, and hot-formed steel.

"Audi A8 L Security 2016"

These materials keep things like bullets and shrapnel from piercing through the bulletproof glass and the body shell. The normal looking tires of this vehicle run-flat and continue functioning without any pressure for a certain distance. Battered, bruised or shredded, this car would still secure the person sitting inside.

"Audi A8 L security"

The car belongs to the limousine category and meets class VR9 ballistic protection standards that is considered the highest security requirement for civilian high-security sedans as set by VPAM (an association of testing institutes that was established to create guidelines for the qualification of ballistic materials and their Bulletproof Levels) The protection’s guidelines state that the vehicle must withstand military-grade weapons like M14 and FAL-FN rifles from a distance of 10 meters.

"Audi A8 L Security"

The car must also handle at least three shots from any squad-based heavy weapon like an M60 machine gun from a similar distance and a blast of 15 kilos worth of TNT from two meters. That’s plenty of security in a car I’d say.

Interior:

Audi has retained luxury amidst security and has added a few luxury chops to extend the sense of comfort. Built for VIP’s, this Audi has a couple of additional features that come in handy. It has an inclusion of an armored communication box in the luggage compartment, an intercom for communicating with people outside the vehicle, and selective door locking.

"Audi A8 L Security"

Additionally, there are a handful of optional features that can be installed into the interior as per request. Audi’s patented emergency exit system, a extinguishing setup, and an emergency fresh air system that independently provides oxygen to the cabin can be added at an additional price and as per the specifications of the owner.

"Audi A8 L Security"

Engine:

Two different engines power the Audi A8L Security. The first engine, a 4.0-liter TFSI bi-turbo V-8 engine that produces 435 horsepower and 442.5 pound-feet of torque. The second, a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter W-12 FSI engine, pumps out 500 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. Both engines will be offered with the eight-speed tiptronic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. With these top of the line security features, the A8 L Security flies from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds. The top speed of this car just like its normal cousin (A8) clocks in at 130.5 mph.

Price:

Meant essentially for plutocrats, Audi has kept a very low profile with the price tag on the A8 L Security. Audi has already opened the first order booking for the secure Audi. The expected delivery time is scheduled in spring 2016. But needless to say, this vehicle will come at a bombshell of a price that would attract the likes of the super wealthy.

Bottom Line:

This vehicle isn’t something that is available at any Audi dealership. Audi took various lengths to provide the A8 L security its ballistic classification and this is certainly a plus point. The vehicle is certainly one of the safest cars for the super rich (Just like the Mercedes S Guard). The Luxury that Audi retains has also been kept constant. I loved the fact that Audi provides 2 engine choices and this is a brilliant feature. There are a few flaws to this car as well but it doesn’t really come out as a major issue. Overall, this is a bunker of sorts and you can be assured that no mortal can lay hands on you whilst you are seated in this car.

MASERATI Family: Cars to definitely ogle at

"Gran Cabrio"

Supercars have one thing in common, Speed!

But, what sets some super cars apart than the rest is the name. Maserati is one of the more unique names in the super car segment. It has cars belonging to various segments. Built for a niche crowd, here is a sneak peek into some of the prominent offerings by Maserati:

MASERATI QUATTROPORTE:

Maserati’s Quattroporte is a 4-door sports luxury saloon. Its name translates to four doors in Italian. There have been 6 generations of this car, with the first introduction in 1963 and the current model that was launched in 2013.

"Maserati"

Engine:

The Quattroporte from Maserati comes in 3 different variants. The S model produces 404 HP with its 3-liter V6 engine that has a rear wheel drive. The S Q4 model is an all-wheel drive. Lastly, the GTS comes with a 523 HP producing 3.8 Liter V8 engine and has rear-wheel drive. All these cars have twin-turbo charged and intercooled DOHC 32-valve V8 aluminum block and heads engine with direct fuel injection that come married to an 8-speed automatic.

The 2014 model is reborn and Maserati’s big sedan named Quattroporte comes with plenty of updates. The Quattroporte comes as the brand’s 4-door saloon. It is as stylish as ever and offers luxury and performance in equal doses with a choice of the aforementioned engines. In the gas mileage front, the Quattroporte features a mileage of 13 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway. Both combined, the Quattroporte provides 16 miles per gallon.

Design:

The predecessor has no similarity with its predecessor. The vehicle hosts crisp creases and has angular accents that dominates its exterior design. It carries an ovoid grille with a large trident emblem sets the tone at the nose, sweeping up to the curved hood and into the fenders. A character line traces along the side and over the flanks, into a simple, understated rear end. The overall effect is one of refinement and class, as well as emotive style.

"Maserati Quattroporte"

On the inside, the car looks much more subdued and well executed. It carries satin wood and fine leather finish that compliment the vehicle’s metal accents in a pretty clean and two-tonal finish.

"Maserati Quattroporte"

In terms of features, this Maserati features a 1,280-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system; the Maserati Touch Control screen; adjustable pedals; and a reverse camera. The car also has an optional in-car Wi-Fi system standard on all Quattroporte models.

MASERATI GHIBLI:

Being just a year old, Maserati Ghibli was introduced with the goal of boosting sales worldwide. The new Ghibli  is a scaled down version of the older Quattroporte.  With rivals like Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi A7, BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe and the Jaguar XF, here is Maserati Ghibli .

Engine:

The Ghibli  gets its power from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that is the older cousin of the Quattroporte. The Ghibli comes in 2 outputs; Standard and S Q4. The S Q4 version produces a mighty 404 HP and is an incredible machine. Maserati says the Ghibli accelerates to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, topping out at 177 mph.

The vehicle comes mated on to an 8-speed automatic transmission engine that follows up as standard across all the Ghibli models. The vehicle offers manual-shift mode as well. The Q4 is an all-wheel-drive Maserati that distributes torque from rear to the front.

"Maserati Ghibli"

The vehicle comes in different choices of driving modes that range from economy, normal and sport.

Design:

Ghibli shares quite a simple and brilliant design from Maserati. The car has a relatively compact car for its class and it is quite brilliantly rendered with a deep shoveled nose bearing a trident badge and grille, sleekly sculpted fenders, and a pert rear end with a roofline that’s the chief link between it and the Q-Porte.

"Maserati Ghibli"

In terms of interiors, the Ghibli shares quite a sober environment. It is quite modern in appearance and its dash is shaped like one of its relatives from the Fiat Chrysler Group, the Jeep Cherokee. It’s distanced from its origins with layers of leather and opulent trim choices like open-pore wood, and fitted with huge, cold-to-the-touch paddles for shifting. Still, some lesser cues show up in some plastic trim, in the parts-bin switches and buttons.

MASERATI GRANTURISMO:

Maserati’s Gran Turismo is quite an extraordinary and brilliantly built high-performance 6-figure coupe or convertible. This is spectacularly built and makes quite the sound too:

"Maserati Granturismo"

Engine:

Although the Gran Turismo’s engine doesn’t make it devastating but leaves no scope in terms of speed. The Turismo gets its power from a Ferrari-derived 4.2-liter V8 engine that delivers over 400 bhp of power. Boasting its speed from 0-100 takes just 5.2 seconds and the car flings it at 177 mph tops. The car also has a 4.7-liter twin that carries a sports badge and churns out 450 bhp of power and hits 0-100 in just 4.2 seconds.

Design:

The design language on the Gran Turismo consists of accurate curves placed at the right places. The interiors of this car are quite well appointed with plenty of luxury. The exteriors of this car are quite exotic and they come wrapped around a temperamental hardware. The new Gran Turismo comes with a new and slightly tweaked front fascia. The model Sports a bixenon illuminated LED and has adaptive  lighting control. The sports model has the addition of side skirts that come as standard. It also has enlarged fender vents, new mirrors and 20-inch wheels.

"2015-maserati-granturismo"

Standard technology features include leather-lined cockpit, Bose Sound system with satellite radio, iPod Connectivity as well as a parking warning system that are tuned for various kinds of curbs.

On the inside, this car can easily seat 4 people without a frown. Although the headroom has been compromised a tad, the passengers can comfortably arrange themselves. Seat boast their finesse with special leather design. The vehicle also has a 30GB Hard Drive to save files on the go.

MASERATI GRANCABRIO:

Based on the 2001 coupé that had just 2 seats, the Gran Cabrio came into existence. Before the GranCabrio, the only other four-seat convertible Maseratis were produced by two coachbuilding firms in the 1930s. The Italian firm Castagna and British company RAG Patents both used Maserati’s 26M as the starting point for their convertibles. The GranCabrio has however set a new benchmark for Maserati as it is the first time maserati has produced a four-seat convertible. The heritage of maserati has definitely passed on to this stunning-looking Cabrio.

Engine:

The very name suggests that the GranCabrio is based on the GranTurismo. The coupé is available with either a 4.2 or a 4.7-litre V8, and a choice of a conventional automatic or automated manual gearbox. That said, there is just one GranCabrio engine/gearbox combo: a 4.7-litre automatic. However it can be had in standard or more focused Sport trims. Maserati has also introduced the MC variant to the Grancabrio range. It draws on the styling of the stripped-out MC Stradale GranTurismo, but with no mechanical changes.

"Gran Cabrio"

Design:

The GranCabrio covers a space of 4.9 m and this makes it quite a long car. Maserati has opted for a canvas roof over a folding metal design. The triple-layer roof, available in a choice of six colors, takes 28 seconds to close and can be operated on the move at speeds below 19mph. The construction of the GranCabrio is as pleasing as any other maserati and comes fitted with all the proportional bells and whistles suited for a comfort seeker.

Wrap up:

Maserati holds its own level of reputation on the streets. These models are by-far the most sought after names. What do you feel about Maserati as a brand?

2015 Smart For four: Small yet Pricey

"Smart For Four"

Smart, a unit of Mercedes introduced the Smart For Two that was more of an expensive novelty than a car. This tiny yet powerful machine is still surviving because of Daimler’s stubbornness. Even after 16 years, the automaker has yet to boast of a Smart profit with 10k burbling sales per year.

However, the topic of discussion is the Smart for two that is the older brother of the Smart for Two. This car was born of the alliance with Renault. The car shares its skeleton with the Renault Twingo that happens to be a five-speed stick and carries a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox with the Twingo.

Smart For Four:

Promoted as a car that is dog friendly, Smart seems to have no idea how many of the Smart for Four cars will sell. But, let’s hope Smart for four outperforms expected boundaries and tops the sales charts. Meanwhile, here is a review on the Smart for Four:

Engine and performance:

Power does come in a small package. The car has a Smartly packaged yet powerful engine that produces unlimited power. The Smart for four has an 90bhp producing 900 cc turbo engine as well as the naturally aspirated 69 bhp 1.0 liter engine. The vehicle has a rear-mounted engine and has a rear-wheel drive chassis that makes the Smart quite maneuverable. The best part about this car is that it can be parked even at real tight spaces and nips in and out of the busy urban traffic.

Interior, design and technology:

"Smart For Four"

The new and second-generation For Four comes with a whole new look. This new and upgraded hatchback has many design features with small two-seats. There is a little resemblance to its predecessor. However, the new model sports new looks and such. Apart from the two-tone bodywork, the vehicle has a square headlamp design, strong shoulder line as well as a larger honeycomb grille. The all-new vehicle carries a more premium image with a neat design touches for the head and tail lamps. The vehicle comes in a choice of 9 body colors and has 3-grille colors to offer. It also has a safety cell that is visible on the rear of the car.

In terms of interiors, the car has gone through a complete overhaul. The vehicle sports a ‘floating’ touch screen infotainment system that is lifted from the Renault Twingo that dominates the dashboard on the Prime and Proxy models. The vehicle has textured fabrics and leather steering makes it look more premium.

Practicality, comfort and boot space:

In terms of the car’s interior space, the For Four is way behind competition. It has just 180 litres of boot space and feels small but the rear seats can be locked more up right that gives it a nice and rectangular look.

"Smart For Four"

The car has more luggage room and since the rear seats in the ForFour folds completely flat, the vehicle has a maximum of 975 litres. Reversible cushions can be turned around and lowered which creates an additional 120mm of headroom, plus the front passenger seat folds fully flat allowing loads up to 2.2m long.

Reliability and Safety:

The new ForFour car shares almost no relation to its previous model. It sports has an all-new engine, new chassis and it is stunning overall. The vehicle has new tech and features including plenty of safety measures. It has crosswind assist that comes fitted as standard that moderates braking when the car encounters a strong gush of wind, while other features inclusive of a forward collision warning as well as a lane keeping assist are also included. The For Four’s suspension soaks up big bumps from manhole and drain covers, offering a nice, cushioned ride.

The turbo model of the ForFour delivers more performance and torque than its non-turbo powered sibling. For the less powerful version, you will have to rev the engine to make progress and work the gearbox to extract the most from the engine. It is definitely less refined on the cruise, although the five-speed manual gearbox is light and crisp. It somehow feels fairly long-geared that hampers around a little with the acceleration.

Bottom Line:

The For Four seems to be a car suited best for those who have owned Fortwo’s or for people with kids and seek more practicality. It could just easily be a bust, because this seems like history repeats itself.  Smart has been down this read before, and the remodeled Mutsubishi Colt that was launched way back in 2004 did not perform so well that it had to be terminated after 2 years.

However, let’s hold our judgmental horses for a while till the ForFour starts performing. It might either make a lucrative deal for Smart or backfire. Only time and customers will tell.
