Infiniti QX30 Crossover Unleashed

"Infiniti QX30"

Infiniti is one of those popular car brands that are enjoyed by true car lovers and enthusiasts. This Japanese automobile brand recently unveiled the all-new beast. The all-wheel drive crossover from the company is named QX30 and was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. This production ready version is truly a dessert for the eyes.

Te brand is described as being created “for a new generation of premium buyers”. The demand for premium cars is on a rise and with high figures involved, it is obvious that companies will put forward their best designs to attract a new breed of drivers. The QX 30 happens to be designed quite closely to its concept version and this is certainly good news for futuristic car design lovers because the car looks fabulous.

Exteriors:

On the outside, the QX 30 car flaunts the company’s style and mesh grille design that is infused between the chrome accents on the top and the bottom edges. Also, you’d love the prominently placed faux skid plate that incorporates dual exhausts. The styling continues along with a block body cladding and also has its ride height risen by 45 mm. That’s not all, the car also seems to be equipped with a windshield that is raked at a sharp angle and are accompanied by LED Tail lamps. This design is certainly exceptional and is definitely a premium car lover’s dream come true.

Officials at Infiniti say that the car’s styling, which incorporates muscular bumpers at either end and features the firm’s mesh grille at the front, showcases its “design-led approach to product development”. The QX30 is the sister car to the older Q 30 that was Infiniti’s premium hatchback version that went on sale in Europe. This car is to be built together at Nissan’s Sunderland plant.

Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti’s boss said that, The category-defying design of the QX30 stays true to the inspiration behind the daring 2015 concept. Its mix of artistry in the flowing lines, and power in the elevated stance and confident look, makes a bold visual statement and challenges current preconceptions of what a crossover should look like.”

"Infiniti QX 30"

Roland Krueger, Infiniti’s president said, “With our recent sales successes and record growth, the current product offensive will further strengthen Infiniti’s global market position. The active crossover, QX30, joins our new premium compact family and will broaden our offer to new customers around the world.”

Interiors:

Inside the QX 30 crossover, the car comes with a 7.0inch touch screen infotainment system, similar to the one seen in the hatchback version. The crossover also comes with various safety equipment, inclusive of Around View Monitor, adaptive cruise control and a parking assistance system. The crossover also features anti-roll bars and a reworked suspension setup which incorporates stiffer springs. Under the hood, QX30 will probably share the same power-plant options seen in the AWD Q30, which happen to be a 2.2litre 168bhp diesel and a 2.0litre 208bhp petrol motor. Globally, the QX30 is expected to go on sale sometime around mid2016 and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1. The QX30’s cabin is also claimed to be one of the quietest in the segment. The car will come with safety technology including an Around View Monitor, adaptive cruise control and parking assistance systems, with most functions controlled via its touch screen infotainment system.

Power Train:

This vehicle is supposedly an all-wheel drive that will follow through across as standard on all the QX30’s. It is likely that engines currently offered in AWD form on the Q30 will be offered with the car. That means a choice between a 168bhp 2.2-litre diesel and a 208bhp 2.0-litre petrol. The company claims that the crossover has been designed, perfect and engineered in such a way that it provides a confidence inspiring, dynamic driving experience. It features intelligent all-wheel drive. All engines will be mated to Infiniti’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard. This car will come with bespoke tuning settings for its ride and handling. It features stiffer springs and a new rear anti-roll bar, which Infiniti says allows the QX30 to “remain comfortable at all speeds and over a variety of road surfaces”.

Price:

The QX30’s price tag is undecided yet. The car is expected to command a significant premium over the Q30. However, the price tag of this car is sure to be hefty.

Bottom Line:

The Qx30 is surely a crucial launch for Infiniti and it strives to compete with premium German manufacturers. After launch, Infiniti had sold 173,000 vehicles worldwide in the first 10 months of 2015, with particular growth in China and the US. The addition of a mass-market crossover should help Infiniti to cash in on what is one of the fastest-growing segments in the marketplace

Subaru Impreza Review

"Subaru 2015 Hatchback"

Subaru is a well-known brand that is poplar for its all-wheel drive vehicles. Impreza happens to be a great (and only) choice for a small sedan or hatchback if you want the traction-aiding feature on it.

The new 2015 Impreza is back to win you over with features, specs and a whole lot more. The new Impreza comes with a spacious cabin, roomy rear-seat and a well-tuned suspension. Here is everything new and trendy about the Impreza:

Design language and trim level options:

The 2015 Subaru Impreza comes in a sedan and hatchback version. It has a 2.0i, 2.0i Premium and 2.0i Limited trim level. The car is also available in 2.0i Sport Premium and 2.0i Sport Limited trims.

"Subaru Impreza 2015"

First off, the Impreza 2.0i comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels, a rear spoiler (hatchback), full power accessories, keyless entry, air-conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a height-adjustable driver seat, a manual tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a rearview camera, 60/40-split-folding rear seatbacks, a trip computer, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a 6.2-inch touch screen interface and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, USB/iPod integration, HD radio, an auxiliary audio input and smart phone integration with Aha, Pandora and iHeart Radio.

The Impreza 2.0i Premium adds 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear stabilizer bar, body-color exterior mirrors, chrome interior door handles, an adjustable front center armrest, a cargo cover (hatchback) and a six-speaker sound system. The optional Alloy Wheel package adds 17-inch wheels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The optional All-Weather package (included as standard with the manual transmission) adds heated mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer and heated front seats.

The 2.0i Limited includes all of the above extras, and adds automatic headlights, fog lights, chrome exterior trim, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a rear center armrest and a 7-inch touch screen interface with swipe/scroll capability, satellite radio, voice controls, dual USB ports and text-to-voice messaging functionality. Options include keyless entry and ignition, a navigation system, adaptive cruise control, a forward collision mitigation system with automatic braking, lane departure warning and steering-responsive fog lights that enhance corner illumination when turning.

The 2.0i Sport Premium adds roof rails, fog lights, body-color rocker panel extensions and sport fabric upholstery to the regular Premium equipment list, and it includes the Alloy Wheel and All-Weather package items as standard. Its 17-inch wheels also have a darker “gunmetal gray” finish.

Meanwhile, the 2.0i Sport Limited bundles the Sport Premium model’s additional features with the amenities of the 2.0i Limited (including automatic climate control and leather upholstery), and it adds a special silver-accented front grille. Options for the Sport Limited mirror those for the regular Limited.

A sunroof is a stand-alone option on all Premiums and Limited trims.

"Subaru 2015 Hatchback"

Engine and Performance:

The 2015 Impreza from Subaru comes with a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed “boxer” four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque.

The 2.0i and 2.0i Sport Premium come standard with a five-speed manual transmission coupled to an all-wheel-drive system with a 50/50 default front/rear power distribution. Optional on those trims and standard on the others is a CVT paired with a different all-wheel-drive system that apportions more power to the front wheels by default, but transfers power rearward when more traction is needed.

The fuel economy on this car with manual transmission for both sedan and non-sport hatchbacks is 28 mpg with 25 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway. The sports hatchback has an incremental drop of mileage to 28 mpg; 24 in the city and 33 on the highway. When equipped with the CVT, the sedan and non-Sport hatchbacks rate in at 31 mpg with 28 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway. The sports model drops to 31 mpg combined with 27 on the city and 36 on the highway. That said, these figures are quite competitive and are remarkably high for an all-wheel drive car.

Interiors:

The Subaru Impreza retains its interior design and it looks pretty conservative in the design sense. While others might find this car a tad traditionally designed, others might find it clean and likely to withstand the test of time. Materials and build quality are decent for the segment, highlighted by soft-touch material on the dash and door sills along with tight panel gaps. Music lovers, take note, however: The Impreza’s audio systems deliver disappointing sound quality, even by the modest standards of this class.

"Subaru Interiors"

The front seats are comfortable enough to make you enjoy long trips. The head- and legroom are above average for the class. The rear seat is one of the roomiest in the segment, making this Subaru eminently suitable for small families. Boot space is also generous, measuring 12 cubic feet in the sedan’s trunk and 22.5 cubes in the hatchback’s trunk. Folding the hatchback’s rear seatbacks down opens up a healthy 52.4 cubic feet. The car also has rearview camera, cruise control, and a 6.2-inch touch screen interface with upgraded infotainment features as standard equipment. An advanced safety package (including adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking and lane departure warning) is newly optional on Limited and Sport Limited.

"Subaru Impreza 2015"

Bottom Line:

With all that’s said and done, the Impreza has a little noisy engine and has a hard acceleration that is aggravated by the continuously variable transmission (CVT). On the Brightside, the vehicle has spectacular fuel economy and this makes it quite a respectable car.

Brace yourselves and your vehicles from the watery doom

"Car trouble"

A guide to saving your wheels from a watery grave With the recent downpour of the nastiest rains that Chennai has ever seen in close to 10 decades is surely a lesson to everyone that Mother nature is NOT to be messed with. The monsoon followed by subsequent flooding has overwhelmed lives and it sure has had some unspeakable consequences. Let’s all take this as a strict warning to stop polluting and promote greenery over the greed for money. The heavens don’t intend on giving up soon and we should all take care of ourselves and the others around and of course, the things that we love- our vehicles. Here is a small article that lists a couple of safety measures for both man and machines ensuring that no damage is done:

Always be prepared:

Life has no certainty, but we can do our best to be prepared for the worst. Moisture does not go well with metal. In fact, if you’re located near the coast, you best be prepared. The salt-laden breeze can be devastating to your engine. Things can get worse when the rains cause flooding and water logging. Its imperative that you have an emergency kit in your car. A little food, some water, a glass breaker and a flashlight. These things might be lifesavers when you least expect it.

Don’t Drive:

Decongesting roads can be done, and your car can be safe as well. Just leave the car parked. The risk of running the car and it getting stuck in water is always there. But, what’s more risky is that there might be potholes and there’s just no saying when your car might get stuck in one. The best thing to do is to stay at home and avoid going out till the condition seems okay.

"Floods"

Beware of aquaplaning:

A thin film of water on the road; what harm could it possibly do? But, that moisture is sufficient enough to lift the car’s tyres of the toad if you happen to move at high speed. Aquaplaning can be very dangerous as it could lead to momentary loss of control over the car’s steering. This could result in the car spinning in an unintended direction or even off the road.

Exhaust pipe trouble:

This might have happened to a lot of readers. While you’re out there stuck up in traffic and the water somehow manages to find its way to the exhaust pipe and choke it, the apparent drowning of the pipe is followed by burbling sounds. In such a situation, make sure you keep engine revs higher than normal and do not stall the engine till you are on higher ground. This ensures that water does not enter the engine. Once you’ve managed your way out of there and reach a safe spot where the water level is lower than the exhaust pipe, move along slowly and use your left foot to tap the brake pedal repeatedly in order to squeeze water out and get the brakes to function properly again. This simple technique, can save your car’s engine and thereby your wallet.

"Cars flooded"

Bonnet level= Danger!!

If the water level goes up as high as the bonnet of your car, it is best that you turn off the car as the air-intake is just below the bonnet and will suck in water and damage your engine extensively. Try and open the door to get out, or if you have waited for too long and can’t open the doors anymore, get out through the window. In case the electrical systems have failed, move to the back seat – lie down on the seat and kick out a window to get out. If the electrical systems are working, make sure you shut the windows to give the interiors a chance to stay dry. If possible, open the bonnet and disconnect the battery before you leave to keep the ECU from getting shot out.

It is an unfortunate situation and as difficult as it may be, you have to put your safety first and walk out, instead of persisting and believing that you will make it through. Follow the steps above in order to limit water damage as much as possible – to the mechanical and electrical parts at least. The interiors are likely to take a beating, but then it’s easier to change seat covers and carpets than an engine block. Always remember to stay safe and choose to cut your losses instead of persevering in a difficult situation and harming yourself in the process too.

"Car trouble"

Saving your Car:

In case your car is completely immersed in water, these following steps should help:

– Don’t Start your car.

– Tow your car over to a workshop or a service pit.

– Drain the engine oil completely and replace the car’s air filter and oil filter with a new one.

– Remove engine intake manifold and clean the water entry.

– Fill with new engine oil and jack the car’s wheels and while doing so, do NOT start your car. Instead, just hand rotate the wheel that helps crank the engine.

– The process enables oil circulation and mixes with the water (if any) inside the engine.

– Follow this technique for at least 15-20 minutes and then flush out the engine oil. – Fill the oil again and repeat the aforementioned technique and clean all plugs, remove the starter and clean it as well. Once dry, refit it.

– Now, fill fresh engine oil and start the engine. Let the car run for 1 to 2 minutes.

– The technique mentioned above should cost you around 7 thousand rupees. However, it can save your car’s engine and save you from major expenses.

Stay home, Stay safe.

Maruti Wagon R AMT

"Wagon R StingRay"

Proud to be one among the league of the highest selling cars in India, with success sharing cousins like the Alto K10 and the Celerio AMT, Maruti Suzuki India has now introduced the all-new Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology and coupled it with the Wagon R. Wagon R has been a desired hatchback vehicle for quite some time and Indians have grown a liking towards this vehicle.

To add more challenge to the buying game, the company has added the AGS technology with the Wagon R Stingray. Besides this, the company has also offered optional driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants of the hatchbacks.

The following article enlists the various features, specs and technology that is going to revolutionize the Wagon R.

Commenting on the new variants, Mr R S Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing & Sales, MSIL said, “WagonR is one of the strongest brands in the Indian car market and it has been one of the top five selling cars in the country. WagonR will be the third brand from our portfolio to get the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology. By introducing the AGS in a popular car like WagonR, we aim to democratize the AGS technology so that more customers can enjoy the convenience of automatic gear shift without compromising on fuel efficiency and at an attractive price.” “The option of dual airbags and anti-lock braking further strengthens the core proposition of WagonR and Stingray as ‘Smart’ cars,” he added

Exterior & Interior

You can very well expect the AMT gearbox along with the AMT badge on the car’s boot lid. The exteriors haven’t been touched and there aren’t any changes to it. The company has now offered the driver and co-driver airbags as well as anti-lock braking system (ABS) that happens to be an optional offering across all variants of the vehicles. The new AMT model has adapted the tall-boy design and has blue tint headlamps, chromed grille, body-colored bumpers and door handles, side body moldings and other design elements. Inside, the car gets the regular dual-tone beige and black interior them with dual-tone 3D effect upholstery, electronic power steering, keyless central door locks, air conditioner with heater and rotary AC controls, etc.

The vehicle comes with auto gearshift transmission with Intelligent Shift Control Actuator. This feature is available only on the VXi variants of the both the vehicles. Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki, currently, offers Auto Gear shift in Celerio and Alto K10.

"Maruti Wagon R Automatic"

Certainly enough, Maruti Suzuki has to get all the credits for making automatic gearbox more acceptable in India’s affordable compact car segment, by introducing Maruti Alto and Maruti Celerio with automatic manual transmission (AMT).
Engine & Transmission

The same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that also does duty to the regular models powers the Wagon R AMT. However, the power train is now coupled with an auto gearshift (ASG) transmission. It also has a Magneti Marelli-sourced, coupled with an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations. This system also optimizes ECU calibration of the engine, and enhances its fuel efficiency. This engine churns out a maximum power of 67bhp with a peak torque of 90Nm. The Wagon R AMT just like the Celerio with its 998 cc motor will produce a mileage of around 23 kmpl.
The new Maruti Wagon R EZ Drive with AMT is said to be offered in LXi and VXi variants initially. The price for the new Wagon R AT (with automatic manual transmission) will be about Rs 50,000 more than the manual gearbox version, and is expected to cost between Rs 4.5 lakh and 5 lakh.

It was reported that Maruti is working to increase the production of AMT cars to 43%. Maruti seems to have taken a step forward in the same context. Not only this, now the report stating that 30 percent of the cars in India will feature AMT by the year 2020. Every manufacturer is working on producing AMT cars. Earlier this month, Toyota also mentioned that all its cars would be launched as automatic cars in India.

HONDA BR-V – The New Ride To be In Town

"Honda BR-V"

Japanese automobile maker Honda was working on the next version of the SUV that was named CR-V. Now, the company is going to introduce a new SUV with the model name BR-V. The company has also disclosed the official sketch of the upcoming SUV. Now, the company has formally pulled off the covers over the production version at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show 2015.

The firm has also opened bookings for this Utility Vehicle and its deliveries are estimated to start at early 2016. Even before its disclosure, its images have been leaked online, which created a buzz across the automobile industry. The Indian bound model is most likely to get a twist and it will carry a new appeal. The images are out online and some auto portals have also posted the images of its interiors, which explains that this BR-V is going to be a seven seating car. It is highly unlikely that this four-wheeler will be launched in the sub 4-meter segment. Hence, it is going to compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari Storme. Its launch in India is slated in 2016, meanwhile here is a review on this SUV:

EXTERIORS

Based on the available images online, the car looks pretty attractive. At the front of this car, it has a chrome-designed grille along with Honda’s emblem placed in the center. There are sleek headlamp clusters with great improvements and they have chrome. It also seems to have projector beams on the front lamps that have improved visibility. The front side of the body is colored and it is integrated into the overall look. It also has a wide air intake section allowing vehicle’s engine cooling. The lower side of the bumper has matte silver faux skid plate.

The side section of this vehicle resembles many MPV models. It has rear roof lines raise towards the car’s rear. This beast presents a strong ground clearance of more than 200 mm. It also has 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels that add to its charm. It has LED incorporated tail lamp sections that are interconnected in a thin strip. Overall, it is a beast of a ride.

INTERIORS

Inside the BR-V, the vehicle has a sound ergonomic design. This is similar to the designs found on the Honda Jazz and City. This 7-seating capacity car has a 3 row seating system for optimized space usage. The upholstery on this car gives out a beautiful experience. It has a 50:50 third row seat that allows the passengers to conveniently store items. There are AC vents for all the rows that enable good circulation for the occupants. The seats are sure to be covered in fine upholstery. At the front, the driver gets the benefit of a stylish steering wheel with the company’s emblem at the center. The vehicle may also house a touch screen AV system for the entertainment requirements of its passengers. It also has an advanced infotainment system. It may also have a USB port and Aux-in option that allow occupants to integrate their devices with the system.

POWER TRAIN:

This vehicle will most likely house a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that comprises of 4 cylinders. A 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine is also expected, since there is a huge demand for these power plants. These engines are popular in most brands but they might undergo some modifications for improved power output. They are supposed to come along with a six speed manual transmission, and some sources claim that a CVT gearbox is also available. The vehicle’s mileage is expected to carry around 18 to 25 kmpl depending on the engine type. The i-VTEC petrol motor expected to power the machine gives a power of 119bhp at 6600rpm, along with a torque of 145Nm at 4600rpm. Coming to the 1.5-litre i-DTEC mill, it is expected to produce a power of 99bhp at 3600rpm, along with a torque of 200Nm at 1750Nm.

BOTTOM LINE:

The Honda BR-V is an ultimate machine that has beautiful specs and features. If the aforementioned is true, it is sure to boost sales of the brand. The vehicle has a great exterior format and its looks are mind blowing. The vehicle has a reasonably good fuel economy and is expected to carry a modest price tag. The vehicle seems to have plenty of space inside and is spacious enough for 7 passengers. On the downside, this vehicle, based on its size, might have performance issues. The vehicle has a little chrome on the outside, but it would be great if there were more chrome.

Maruti Baleno: Making a Successful Comeback

"Maruti Suzuki Baleno"

With 21000+ bookings from the time of its launch, maruti baleno has put itself in a winning streak. In fact, even Nexa Dealerships are witnessing close to 56,000 footfalls that have been converted in a matter of a fortnight. Earlier, the Nexa website offered a configuration tool that could be used to select various accessories and such.

The overwhelming response received showed up in just 2 days when maruti has 4600 bookings for Baleno. It is reminiscent of the time when Baleno was launched about a decade ago and did not do as exceptionally well as it is doing now. This new vehicle has nothins in common from its predecessor, except for the name.

Here’s a review on this B+ segment hatchback from Maruti Suzuki:

The Baleno is the new B+ segment hatchback from Maruti Suzuki. The compact car is positioned above the Swift in the Maruti Suzuki range, making it their most premium hatchback in India. This car made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The Baleno is a global product that is solely made in India for both domestic and global markets. This car is doing pretty well for itself and since Maruti holds a great repute, the credibility is turning pretty lucrative for the company.

Outside:

On the outside, the Baleno appoints a new liquid flow design philosophy to emphasize its exterior. This car gets a V-shaped front grille that has its lines working their way till the rear, first through the sweptback headlamps and then through the shoulder line.

"Maruti Suzuki Baleno"

This car has an odd resemblance to that of the Swift with similar bonnet size and a little similarity with the design language. However, up close the car looks different and a lot more premium with LED DRLs, projector headlamps and chrome inserts. Maruti Suzuki has given this car a relatively simple side view. The rear side of this car is sloping but in no way brings out the sporty feel. The rear profile looks pretty with LED tail lamps and extra chrome. Overall, as intended the Baleno appears to be bigger and premium compared to the B-Segment cars. It is something that every car enthusiast needs, space, comfort, luxury and looks.

"Maruti Suzuki Baleno"

Maruti has certainly done its homework well to bring the Baleno at the right time. No other car manufacturer could pull up such a lot of bookings within a span of 10 days.

Inside:

Once you step inside the baleno, the vehicle greets you quite well with its all-black interiors and gives you an up market feel. The cabin feels fresh and looks revamped. In fact, the new dashboard layout is certain to get a lot of compliments. The silver inserts for the dashboards and the door trims are the additional goodies that make this car manifest a B segment car lover’s dream. There is plenty of space in the cabin for five passengers; also the boot is large at 339 litres.

"Maruti Suzuki Baleno"

The story doesn’t end there. Maruti has offered plenty of features with the Baleno. The top-end model gets touch-screen music system with navigation, rear parking camera and sensors, climate control, engine start-stop button and a detailed instrument cluster with a TFT screen. Also the safety features like ABS-EBD and the front airbags are standard across all variants.

Power train:

Powering the Baleno are the petrol and diesel variants. Choose the petrol variant and you should be able to enjoy the 1.2-litre K-Series VVT engine that helps you churn 83bhp and 115Nm of torque The fuel efficiency of the engine is officially rated at 21.4kmpl and it is available with a choice of a five-speed manual or the CVT automatic transmission.

The Diesel variant on the other hand is the same 1.3-litre multijet from the Swift producing 75bhp and 190Nm of torque. It uses the five-speed manual gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.39kmpl.

The baleno is a bigger car than the Swift. And so, the car has a new platform that was developed from scratch. Still, this car is 100 kilos lighter than the Swift.

"Maruti Baleno"

In terms of variants, the Baleno is available in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The Sigma is the base level, while the Alpha variant is the top-spec with all the features. The CVT automatic transmission is available only with the Delta variant of the hatchback.Maruti Suzuki is offering the car in seven colours – ray blue, fire red, met premium silver, autumn orange, premium urban blue, pearl artic white and granite gray.

Price:

With an onward price of Rs. 5.41 lakhs On Road Price (Bangalore). The baleno hits off a spark and certainly removes the complaints that people had about the lack of space in the Swift. The vehicle is more generous on space, nimble to drive and befriends the pocket too.

Bottom Line:

Matters seem pretty profitable for Maruti Suzuki at the moment with the launch of Baleno. However, with competitors looking out for newer ways to tap into the market, Maruti Suzuki has to always outshine competition by launching something better and more desirable.

Toyota Corolla Altis Limited Edition: A Silent Entrant

"Toyota Corolla Altis"

Toyota has fabricated a beautiful picture in India. With the launch of some of the most promising cars, the company takes a shot at launching a limited edition. Known for making simple quality and reliable cars, it has introduced a no nonsense limited edition called the Toyota Corolla Altis Limited Edition. Yes, that’s right no fancy names either, such simplicity.

When it comes to interiors, the highlight is the smart link infotainment system which gets air and hand gesture controls. Bluetooth and smart phone connectivity are also available with this system. Exterior:

The new Limited edition Corolla Altis Limited edition happens to be a beauty. Although it might be a little difficult to differentiate from the regular Altis, the limited edition version has a little more up its sleeves. This car has been derived from the Furia design philosophy. It has an aggressive appearance, stylish design and a lot of promise. This car has a square design in front with sharp lines for bumpers, grille and the hood. The blacked-out headlamps are LED enabled and flow upward into the sloping bonnet, which has prominent creases on its sides.

This vehicle has limited edition badges on C-pillar and on the right side of the boot. These are the obvious differentiating changes in this vehicle. All the four wheels on this car have extremely flared arches and the doors slope forward on the side. At the back, Toyota has retained some of the aggressiveness from the American-spec car due to the wrap-around tail lamps. The rest of the rear looks like it has been designed based on the current Camry sedan and features a large number of bulging lines. This car surely seems like a limited edition if you look close. The changes might not be so prominent from afar.

"Toyota Corolla Altis Limited Edition"

Interior:

The Corolla Altis Limited Edition gets some of the high-end features suited best to be called a limited edition. This car has illuminated scuff plates and puddle lamps with Toyota written on it. This looks pretty prominent in the dark and seems pretty cool. The interiors of this car feature leather seats with “Limited” emblems embossed on them and faux wood inserts on the door pads, armrest panels, and gear lever boot bezel. Additionally, this car also has wood finish trim on doors that add much flair to its interiors and it also has a Smart Link Infotainment system with air and hand gesture controls, voice function, Bluetooth and Smartphone enabled navigation.

This vehicle also has a wood finish armrest panel around the power window switches. Leather seats on top trims are visible and have limited edition badges on them at the rear. There is also wood finish around the knob, which makes the black beige and wood combination look slick for luxury car buyers. Standard features across variants include driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, rear AC vents, parking sensors and electronically internally adjustable OVRMs. On the higher specs, there is a front parking sensors, Xenon lamps, touch screen infotainment system as well as electronically adjustable seats.

Engine:

Inside the hood, the Corolla Altis Limited Edition has no mechanical changes. The engine remains the same just like any other Corolla. The engine line-up is the same as before- a 1.8-litre petrol unit and a 1.4-litre diesel engine. The former produces 138bhp and 173Nm of torque while the latter produces 87bhp and 205Nm of torque.

  • 1,798cc, 4-cylinder petrol, 138 BHP @ 6,400 rpm, 173 Nm @ 4,000 rpm, 6-speed manual transmission
  • 1,364cc, 4-cylinder diesel, 87 BHP @ 3,800 rpm, 205 Nm @ 1,800-2,800 rpm, 6-speed manual transmission

The diesel has a six-speed manual while the petrol can also be had with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Competition and price:

The Toyota Corolla Altis competes with Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze, VW Jetta and the Hyundai Elantra. This car, being a limited edition is expected to get more likes and more bookings than the normal ones.

Prices for the Toyota Corolla Altis Limited edition petrol starts at Rs. 14,68,324 and diesel starts at Rs. 16,00,324 (ex-showroom Delhi)

Bottom Line:

This vehicle definitely came as a surprise and its launch was kept in the dark and this strategy might not have been the best by Toyota. That said, there should have been more offerings with the Corolla Altis than just focusing on the interiors. The company should have added a more sportier look, and a couple of freebies to make this one tough vehicle to book and one tough competitor to beat.
