A wanderlust, a foodie, an amateur photographer and a die hard automobile enthusiast. Gifted with the art of playing with words (and sentences) I've been writing (initially started with satirical writing) for a couple of years. Meet me on a good day and i'll definitely narrate my story (with a cup of tea and hopefully some delicious pakoda's) on how writing scripted my life. Happy reading :)

Royal Enfield- Holy Bullet!!!

We belong to a  generation driven by worshipers and atheists. However, there still exist a few incidents that impel non believers into fathoming the miracles of the lord.

We’ve all heard about Rajasthan and, if asked; the first thing that comes to mind might be,  desert, camels, culture, naquasi, Sharab, shabab , kabab  and Rajputana bikes too 🙂

But, among the bustling population in Rajasthan, there lays a small village permeating across a small expanse of Pali district that adjoins Jodhpur, there is one particular unprecedented, miraculous temple that attracts intrepid  bikers and believers from all across the country.

Presenting the BULLET BABA MANDIR, A temple (memorial) that worships a 350 cc Royal Enfield, not for any quotidian reason, the bike has a miraculous journey that led people into believing one of the many wonders that god manifests upon mankind..

P.S. I did not shoot this video, but it is intriguing isn’t it?

Bullet God Rajasthan

As the story narrates, the year was 1988 and in the sweltering land of Rajas and Rajputs, a villager named Om Banna (a.k.a Om Singh Rathore) who was the son of the Chotila village leader Jog Singh. The nearby village was named Banna and since Om Singh Rathore was a Rajput, it was very normal to suffix the name Banna to the last name.  Om banna just like any Enfield fan bought the bullet 350cc bike after his marriage. Once, Om Singh was travelling on his Royal Enfield 350 cc from a small town named Bangdi (near pali) to chotila when death bestowed its cold hands upon him in the form of a fatal accident, the death of Banna might have been caused either due to incessant alcohol consumption that led his bike into a life taking collision with a tree, instantly claiming the life of Om Singh Rathore. The body was thrown apart and the bike fell into a nearby 20 feet trench. The following morning, the body was removed from the spot and the bike was taken to a nearby police station. But to add to the spookiness, the bike disappeared from the police station and is said to be found at the exact accident spot (it gets creepier)

Police, took the motorcycle once again and this time, they emptied the fuel tank and just to ensure that this phenomenon doesn’t occur again, the police chained the bike ensuring that the bike would remain at the station and not wander away. To add to their astonishment, the following day was just as spooky as the previous one. The bike was missing!

It was found at the exact same accident site, rumor has it that the bike was sold to a person in the neighboring village. But, the bike returned to its original place. This led to the upraise of superstitious beliefs and presence of paranormal forces. All the attempts and efforts were thwarted by the police and finally after several failed attempts, the bike remained parked at the same spot before dawn.

During the night of Om Banna’s death, it is believed that the spirit of Banna had appeared and asked a truck driver a lift, while moving ahead the spirit tells the driver to blow the horn at the spot of the accident and says that regardless of your purpose of driving, your task shall be fulfilled and soon after the spirit vanished in thin air.

As it might occur, locals started believing in the bike as a form of God’s work and started worshipping the bike. Hence, the name “Bullet Baba’s Temple” came into existence. The temple (even now) is believed to carry magical powers and the spirit of the owner (Om Banna) is said to help distressed travelers. The temple has a dwarf tree that has become black due to the continuous poojas that produce a lot of smoke even the leaves have turned black. But, none of that really comes to the picture; you can notice an explosion of varied colors of handkerchiefs, bangles, scarves and multi colored ropes coming from various worshippers from near and far, who come to the temple with certain hopes, aspirations and prayers. The general belief claims that bullet Baba fulfils their wishes (I would like to go there sometime and wish for a Harley Davidson Night Rod)

The first follower, Bagga Ram, can still be seen regularly playing harmonium at the shrine. The accident spot is far away from habitation but, it doesn’t really seem so because of the steady flow of visitors. The visitors include tourists, truck drivers, bus drivers, cab drivers etc.

Joining Bagga Ram is Poonam Giri, a priest at the temple for the past twenty years.

The devotees have claimed to hear the bike roar at midnight from the day on which Om Banna lost his life. The bike is said to have the spirit of Banna.

The people residing in neighboring villages also believe in the miracles of Bullet Baba. In fact newly wedded couples come to the temple to worship the bike and ask for no brakes in their “happy married life” members of the Rajput clan also bring their newborns to perform rituals like, shearing the hair of newly born babies at the temple and of course drinking barley water (beer prasad)

This temple is situated along the Pali-Jodhpur highway, You won’t wander away from this place because of the name of the village, named Om Banna which happens to be a road side village is also a developing economy. You can find small shops offering flowers, incense, caphor, turmeric, and various items required for a standard pooja and for those who would like to carry home a souvenir, the shops offer key chains, necklaces, rings, audio and Video tapes as well as pictures of Om Banna.

The Bullet Bike is parked at the same spot and covered with all possible holy colors in India. Also, as a symbol of one’s wish, various scarves and handkerchiefs can be found tied on the bike. Travelers who pass by usually stop for some time to offer their prayers at the temple.

Bullet Baba

Apart from the Clamor of Horns and standard temple offerings, there is one unique offering that is not followed by any temple in India. The libation of beer is an uncanny offering to the temple. Devotees can also get a bottle of bullet brand beer (or two) and happily gulp it down treating it like the normal Prasad offered at the temple.

Those who want to offer beer can place the bottle in front of the foot rest of the 350 cc Royal Enfield Bullet bike.

God works in mysterious ways. May be this is one of the ways god bestows his blessings upon us. For those who believe in this temple, you should definitely visit and find out for yourselves. Apart from the relics that have managed to enthrall worshipers from all around the country (perhaps the world too) there seems to be a certain power that is driving the place. Although, you might have your own reasons like savoring the peculiar Prasad offering or you might be truly devoted, regardless, people who love adventure should definitely seek the blessings of Bullet Baba.

SUBARU WRX-2015 CONCEPT – an overview

Interiors of the WRX Subaru (concept)

Subaru cars have always been accoutered with the chiseled and diabolical looks just like it came out of the gymnasium, the recent announcement about the launch of its new WRX model in 2015 is pretty exciting, meanwhile let us review and get our hopes up with the Subaru WRX concept 2015.

Being a Genetically designed race car (so to speak) drivers and speed freaks were the prime focus, and the design was nothing to be really proud of. It was a racer, without any mention about its looks and such. But the new WRX changes all the previous kept notions.

The new Subaru seems stronger in appearance, it looks grumpy too. The new 268 hp generating turbo machine has a 4 and 6 speed manual transmission. As a part of Subaru’s homologation and the dire efforts to promote the WRX for rally’s during 1990, the Impreza was born with so much under its racing hoods that it was a racing rally horse. The 2 Liter turbo engine wasn’t the only impressive part of the vehicle, the fog lights, fender flares, great seating arrangement and a perfect commandeering steering wheel were the driving forces of the all wheel drive Impreza.

The WRX Concept is called a “design study” by Subaru, I wouldn’t know about the study part but it has certainly won a riders heart. It has a few tricks up its design that remain a mystery but the ride and its design are currently being molested in our minds, it’s a matter of time when 2015 is going to give us a WRX orgasm.

SUBARU WRX-2015 Design

The anticipated 2 Liter Turbo Charged engine is what’s going to charge the new WRX. The new sedan looking concept seems like a 5 door version. Subaru has not particularly been a beauty pageant in the looks department, but who needs looks when power is abundant in the WRX right?

I have to admit, the 2015 model has a sexy body & sporting ascendancy. This is one car that has been bulked up with steroids, Brains and Brilliance.

The formula of behemoth looks and cherubic interiors are a great combination. The interiors are decorous and pronounce chivalry. The steering wheel looks pretty elegant, so do the seats and upholstery. That should pretty much give you a general view of the interiors.

Interiors of the WRX Subaru (concept)

The brand doesn’t seem to give a rat’s a** about competing cars and their massive engines. A Subaru is what a Subaru does best, Glide through roads!!

The WRX isn’t any different, the new and improved injected 2 Liter engine is wilderness on roads, thrusting up 6000 RPM, that’s convenience at its finest for a race freak. The all wheel drive car would certainly perform its best and the 2-liter turbo charged engine with the power of at least 300 deft horses. Making an awaited debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show, the WRX looks faintly like the Impreza but the similarities are very meager.

With such a lot of mustered power under the hood, the brakes have to be freakishly good. The brakes on the WRX are definitely a show stopper (vehicle stopper in this case)although, there isn’t a lot of information available on them, but we expect something speed stopping.

Check out the heavy duty brakes on the WRX concept.

The WRX can perform well on roads, but it can perform better on jagged, muddy, and dirt friendly roads, for the fun sake you can try to perform a drift on such a road, the Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D tires would help you exceed your riding expectations. You’d surely have fun dancing with the WRX and it’s communicative steering that

Bleh!! Well, that the apt word for a wannabe stereo system that plays more crap than music. In all honesty, its way better listening to the phones in your phones play list than turning on this grumbling tractor like audio system.

The price of the Subaru WRX hasn’t been announced yet but, you can expect the entry-level price to range from US $ 26,000(Rs. 15.6 lakhs) to $ 32,490(Rs. 19.50 Lakhs), which would definitely make it a worthy buy. This car would just keep you engaged all day; like it was that special kind of girlfriend you always wanted.

The new and improved WRX Subaru

The WRX concept has a few features that definitely fit into the “hard to take your eyes off” category, there is an inclusion of a very bold Turbo 4 cylinder engine that would brighten up a racer’s day, there has also been an addition to gears and to sum up the good news, the WRX would be an all wheel drive, the sad part however lies in the infotainment, it is downright sad and makes you want to open your window and rather listen to the cows moo.

“Supposedly” a sedan, it is going to take some time to determine how well this Subaru performs.

NFS MOST WANTED, A gaming Revolution that changed Lives – Part 2

After the initial dose of the Most Wanted, lets review the other cars too shall we?

Possibly the best start to the continuation, the Lamborghini Gallardo has just been a darling, found in almost every NFS Most wanted Players garage. The 5 litre V10 powered lambo was the first of its kind, with such a powerful engine among the Gallardo series.

Rolling out between 2003 and 2005, the Gallardo produced 493 BHP @ 7800 RPM racing upto 311kmph. Even in the game, the Lambo Gallardo was priced like a Lambo, $1,20,000 was the price in the game, and in reality, well $600K  ie. 2.79-3.80 crore INR (it was better owning one in the game, at least you could drive and crash the gallardo like no ones business 🙂

The garage was graced by two of the most (then)powerful Lambos. The Murcielago was sleeker and meaner. It reigned the real world from 2001-2006. The 6.2 Liter V12 engine produces 572 BHP @ 7500 RPM, giving it the ability to go as fast as 332 kmph. Succeding the Diablo, the Murcielago is definitely a worthy champion. In the game, the Murcielago costs $ 2,25,000 and in real life, the Murcielago costs $800K ie. between 3.92- 4.77 Crore INR. wouldn’t you love to hear the murcielago?

The one car that made me race through the initial part of the game, the Lexus IS 300 is definitely a friend on wheels.

Reigning from 1998- 2005,  Lexus is known for creating the most reliable cars in the world (a unit of Toyota motors) The IS 300 produces a humble 214 BHP @ 5800 RPM. The saloon car cum Sedan came with a 3 Litre engine, is available at the beginning of the game with a decent price of $ 27,000. Although, the new IS 300 is among the slowest offerings (without any upgrade) the car manages to eke its way through the race.

Manufactured by Lotus between 2004 and 2011, the Lotus Elise 111 R, looked too small to perform. But, after taking it for a spin, I was certainly convinced by its power. Powered by a fuel injected 1.8 litre Toyota engine, the Elise produces 189 BHP @ 7829 RPM and conveniently drove me at 222,Unofficially available in India, but the game price is $ 48,000.

Mazda has been seen a lot in the fast and furious movies, the 1999-2002 Mazda RX 7 FD. I tried my hands at drifting with this vehicle. Although, the 6 series was more successful in various countries due to its adherence to emission regulations.

The 7 series was sold as a right hand drive version, the 1.3 Litre 13B- REW rotary engineproduces 255 BHP @ 6500 RPM, giving the driver the ability to race at 250 kmph.

Superseding the RX7, is the RX 8 that packed a mightier roar and better features. The 1.3 Liter 13B-MSP engine is powerful and produces 232 BHP at 8500 RPM. The rear wheel drive offers driving comfort and in real life goes hard on your fuel. The 6 speed manual transmission is quite the race car you would expect.

The 2 Litre fuel injected engine on the Golf (mk5) is pretty impressive. Being, the first of its kind to contrain a dual clutch transmission otherwise known as DSG (Double Shift Gear Box) the Golf, was produced between 2004 and 2009. Creating 197 BHP at 5100 RPM, the Golf went as fast as 235 kmph. Priced at $ 35,000 the mazda RX7 was priced at

Warning, the Sound could mess with your speakers!!!

Produced between 2005 and 2007, the 6 Litre V8 engine on the Monaro produces 400 BHP @ 6000 RPM and could easily touch 290kmph. Sold under the Vauxhall brand (United Kingdom) the Vauxhall was quite pleasing to drive in the game and i’m assuming it would be the same in real life.

If it is one of the favorites, it’s got to be a supra. Toyota’s production of these fantastic performers started off in the year 1993 and went on up to 2002. But, the supra is still missed. Carrying a 3 Litre Twin Turbo I6 engine, the Supra gave out exceptional results.Producing 276BHP @ 5600 RPM, the Supra went as fast as 241 kmph, making it my second favorite ride.

It looked like the Lancer Evo, and even performed like it.The Subaru is a Japanese Brand that came with a 2 Litre Flat 4 engine, it was produced from 2004-2006. It produces 300 BHP @ 6000 RPM and goes at 250 kmph. Although it couldn’t keep up with the much superior cars, the Impreza was an  impress-er 🙂

Hatch backs are always cute, the Renault Clio was the same, it looks a little like the Swift but then it looks a little like the fabia too. Built somewhere in between the year 2003 and 2005. Mated with a 3 litre V6 24 v Engine, producing 251 bhp @ 7150 RPM and topping its speed at 232kmph.It costs $ 40,000 in the game. The ride was pretty smooth yet it used to lack the complete power as much as the rival vehicles would produce.

A two door classic from Pontiac, a 6 Litre LS2 V8 massive engine that is priced at $ 35,000 in the game, provides excellent handling and drift, especially when it comes to a high speed cop chase. Although mustang offers a better handling over curves, the Pontiac’s Bulky build helps keep the disturbing cop cars at bay. Producing 400 bhp @ 6600 RPM, the pontiac touches 253kmph mark.

My favorite car in the game is the Lancer EVO (also seen in Fast and Furious) I wouldn’t have defeated a lot of Bosses if it weren’t for this car. The first thing that i love about the car is its ability to accelerate like a cheetah. It was indeed the most powerful Mitsubishi offering during 2003-2005 which possessed a 2 Litre Turbo I4 engine that made 261 BHP @ 6500 RPM.

The front wheel drive-car might not have possessed the best of looks, but it was certainly noisy to put the rivals at shame.

The 3.8 Litre 6G75 V6 engine mated on to the Eclipse produces 263 BHP @ 5750 RPM and touches the 220 speed at ease. A worthy price tag of $30,000 in the game, the main power with this vehicle lied in its customization.

Stay tuned for the final dose of the super finest cars Most Wanted offered!  🙂

I believe in love at first sight (this applies strictly to bikes:) ) and I’ve always wanted to own a bike that was unique, omnipotent and designed exactly the way I wanted. I’m sure most of you must have felt the same too.

India in particular has become a hub for custom bikes and custom enthusiasts. It’s like transforming your bike into an autobot. While India was getting flooded with lot many custom bike houses, only a few created legends that we find on roads. One such legendary custom bike house is named RAJPUTANA CUSTOMS.

A Rajput by birth and a biker by heart. Vijay was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan where he did his schooling. After completing his degree in Mass Communication from Carleton University, Canada in the year 2009, Vijay returned to India to pursue his dream of customizing bikes.

The year 2010 was when Rajputana Customs came into action and ever since, Vijay and his team has been giving India a very traditional Rajasthani touch with their classic customized bikes.

If culture drives the country, then what’s the harm in naming the bikes differently?  Every bike built at Rajputana Cutoms shares a very unique blend that combines the Rajasthani culture with the name of every bike and bringing it a step closer to the fabulous design and performance it has to offer. The name that each bike carries, truly pronounces the uniqueness of Rajasthan in its own given ways. A few names of the bikes go as follows: RAJMATA, BITOO, CHINGARI, AGHORI, RAKDI, SOORMA etc. You might think that these are just unusually used names of bikes, but it is not so. There is a deep significance especially with respect to name for every bike ever customized under Rajputana Customs label.

I am going to discuss a few of my favorite bikes that were customized by Vijay Singh and his team.

Probably one of the cheapest custom bikes offered by Rajputana Customs, the LOCO and LAADO are customized Royal Enfield 350 or 500 cc, while the LAADO is a customized 1942 BSA M-20 (500 cc) World War-II Army model bike. These bikes fall under the 75k-1-lakh category. Also, the mentioned cost is just for the customization without the bike. So, ride your bike to Rajputana Customs and get it transformed.

Don’t you just love the tires on this one? Clawed with A 23 mm front and 240 mm rear tire, the UNO comes with a mono-shock soft tail, An excellent Airbrush effect paint job that makes the bike look like it is made out of snake skin, Massive front suspension. Infact, everything in the bike goes through a major overhaul except for the engine and similar parts. The UNO is a customized Royal Enfield 500 cc and the customization of the UNO is priced at around Rs. 4.75 Lakhs.

A name that most Indians are familiar with, the Nandi is a customized Royal Enfiels 500 cc Bike, the customization would cost you Rs. 5 lakhs.

Rajputana Customs Nandi RE

Built with a 23mm front and a 300 mm Rear tire, the Nandi looks super aggressive. The drop down mirrors on the Nandi are a beaut. Look closely at the etched details that you would find on the bike. That is exactly what Rajputana Custom’s means, strict precision in their work and absolute satisfaction on the face of the customer.

This particular Bike rode its way into Bollywood. Rajputana Custom has successfully worked its way into John Abraham’s garage too.

The Light Foot is a 500 cc Royal Enfield with a Girder front Suspension, and internal throttle assembly, hand graving on its brass parts, premium quality leather seats, exhaust guards, classy looking grips, foot rest and even the battery box. The work looks quite meticulously planned in order to create awe. There are a few old school features mated into the Light foot such as the single side drum brakes and the classic old look. Vijay had taken efforts to fit in a leaf spring seat that perfectly syncs in with John’s weight (90 kgs)

Rajputana Customs Royal Enfield 500CC

Customizing this bike would cost you your 500 cc Royal Enfield and just Rs. 5lakhs.

Sparking up serious fire in the custom market, the Chingari  is a café racer offered by Rajputana Customs. Café racers had always carried the British feel with them, but Rajputana broke the chain and built something that would definitely give the British café racer a taste of the Indian Chingari. Carrying a blazing yellow color, spending 1.5 lakhs and your 350/500 cc bike on the chingari customization would definitely be worth it.

Building a bobber out of an Enfield was also an exciting challenge for Rajputana Customs. With the stable hand of Vijay’s teammates and of course their brains too the 8 Ball was certainly a ball in Vijay’s court. Sure enough the 8 ball had an arousal effect on bobber fans.

Vijay says, With “8 Ball” we have just started to scratch the surface of a goldmine. We are here to usher in an era of RE Custom Bobbers and old school charm. Here comes the boom…..ride on.

Rajputana Customs Bobbers

The single seat bobber was too old school, Rajputana Customs had another whacky idea, why not add a detachable back seat? And it totally worked (unfortunately if you are married, you would want to keep this a secret from you know who 😉 )

The Customization of the bobber (8ball) would require your 350/500 cc Enfield and although your pocket might feel Rs. 2 lakh lighter, the looks would be worth the money.

By far, one of the most favorite customized bike I’ve ever come across, the RAJMATA is a 1200 cc Harley Davidson 48 that was under the custody of Vijay till it looked sexier than ever. Although, the owner of this Harley did not want anything jazzy on the bike, Vijay and his team did their best to make the bike look better than ever. Customizing your Harley into the Rajmata would cost you anywhere between Rs. 6 to 8 lakhs.

Rajputana Customs Harley Rajmata

What’s unique about this bike? Well, the bike was remodeled to look Rajputana built.  Rajasthan is known for its Naquaashi, or the carving that Rajasthan is quite famous for. After a grueling 6 months+, the Rajmata was complete. She looked like a stunner.

“Traditional Names, Modern Designs”

Apart from these classics, Rajputana customs also has bikes named,  Raangad, Aghori, Bittoo, Soorma, Raakhdi, Gulaiil etc.

Rajputana Cutoms has so many more customized bikes that have indeed created a demand for customized bikes in India. If you have the bike, the money and of course some time in your hands (customizing a bike takes a lot of time depending on the details you get into) you might want to give it a shot.

We are a speed driven techno-generation that believes completely in the aspect of speed (dating included)

But, let us take a moment to look at those good OL’ days where the rides that we consider antique were once the pride and joy of the family. Read the following article and take a free 40+ year’s reverse trip through memory lane with the Lambretta Li150.

I’ve noticed my oldie (just by age) friends talk a lot about the scooters that commandeered their generation. There was sheer articulation of contentment in owning a Lambretta scooter, unlike the fiber body scooters that we ride today. Although, owning a pristine condition Lambretta is as rare as finding true love.

Lambretta scooter

The Italian company, Lambretta was founded in the year 1947. It did pretty well for itself, during 1972, the Government of India bought the Lambretta home, owning the rights to this Milan scooter production factory and thereby creating SIL (Scooters India Limited) which owns the name rights of Lambretta and Lambro. The Lambretta scooters were manufactured in France, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina under different licensees.

Based on a simple concept, the Lambretta takes us back to “Pre-World War II” period and these scooters were quite in demand in the United States of America primarily for the US Military (paratroops and marines required  plenty of these scooters)

Lambretta scooter review

Surprisingly the design of the scooter has an aeronautical history. Designed by General D’Ascanio who was responsible for designing and constructing the first modern Agusta helicopter was handed the responsibility by Ferdinando Innocenti, of designing a simple, robust and also an affordable unisex two wheeler with a simple purpose ie. Carry passengers and ensuring that the rider’s clothes remain unsoiled. The task seemed interesting enough if it weren’t for the hatred that the General had towards Motorcycles, led him into designing something captivating. The scooter that was built on a spar frame mated to a handlebar, gear change and the engine was mounted on the rear wheel and finally wrapped in a metal body gave it a trendy retro look. Also, a front protection guard to keep dirt and slush away and of course the leg space for women to ride the scooter at ease made the lambretta a unisex ride. The models were upgraded frequently and the design aesthetics were also a prime focus.

After dissociating from Innocenti, D’Ascaio worked on a new scooter design that was revolutionary and introduced this new design to Enrico Piaggio and thus came the Vespa (1946)

The initial scooter was the Lambretta M which had a tubular frame and small wheels and it lacked suspension (that had to hurt) later, the Model B (Lambretta M) was introduced with suspension. A lambretta was deemed ride worthy and possessed retro uber chic looks. In fact, even celebrities were seen riding them. These peaceful looking scooters had embellished hippies too.

The 1954 Li 150:

The two stroke scooter had a 148 cc force air cooled motor which produces 6.5 BHP @ 5300 RPM. I wouldn’t say that the Lambretta is an underfed scooter considering the gearless scooters today, this was definitely sturdy and heavily built and you just cannot ignore the Italian design that the Lambretta’s still flaunt.

Lambretta scooter LI 150

The Lamby 150 was the tata nano of the 60’s. Yes, the lamby was promoted in a cheerful manner illustrating a happy family of four taking a ride on the scooter, Imagine doing that on Indian roads today, apart from the gawking and rubbernecking that most people are experts at, you’d probably feel awkward.

I wouldn’t say the lambretta  Li 150, was a bulk on wheels. It had to do justice to the ladies as well. The scooter unlike the other scooters has its riveted centrally towards the rear side of its body, striking perfect balance and ensuring adequately pleasing riding and handling dynamics and giving the rider an easy 40 kmpl. Not bad at all eh?

Lamy Lambretta scooter

It isn’t as fast as the new generation scooters, it looks retro, yet, it carries with it decade’s worth of peppiness and a certain level of soothing comfort. Being considered a vintage, it manages to get a few stares on busy streets.

Retro’s have a charm and charisma of their own, If luck is in your favor and you really want to go retro (just like me), you can start hunting for a dapper looking Lambretta (and inform me too) I might spruce up the specimen and reorient it a tad to make it look better than ever and proudly ride my Lamby on two wheels.

Happy Riding 🙂

DATING DORSODURO 750 – Beauty from Aprilia!!!

Born in Italy, Aprilia is a small unit of Piaggio that manufactures the successful scooter, Vespa. Aprilia however, is a race winning sports bike unit. The world had witnessed the legendary sports bikes; the RSV Mille (1000 cc’s of brutal power that comes from a V-twin Super bike, the that rolled out of Aprilia’s manufacturing unit and not to forget the RSV4 .

Who wouldn’t want to hear it roar right?

Sounded to me like a tiger roaring away to glory.

One of the recent stunning bikes from Aprilia was the Dorsoduro 750. The name Dorsoduro means “Hard Back” or something that is really tough and strong by nature. These elements have been incorporated in the 750. Being aggressive yet holding a charm, the 2013 Aprilia 750 has been in my attention radar for quite some time. Let’s take a look at the bike’s features and its worth on Indian Roads.

Aprilia had given the Dorsoduro 750 a contemporary beginning. The all new 750 was brawnier than its previous cousins and received a new engine upgrade apart from the normal discernible features. A strong built complemented with nimble reflexes made the Dors d-750 a sagacious possession.

Techno savvy much?

The 90 Degree V twin liquid cooled Engine is mated to the bike and it has four valve heads, double overhead cam. The bike has an electronic fuel injection system with state of the art injectors. Various light weight materials contribute to the diet friendliness of the bike such as; modular steel trellis, aluminum alloy frame etc.The forks are fully adjustable, the biker feels safe and confident on this majestic 750 cc beast. It brings you closer to the Aprilia’s world of racing.

There are three different performing modes that the rider can choose from; Sport, Rain and Touring. These modes can be controlled with a dedicated switch that is found on the handlebar. The touring mode allows a smooth riding capability which helps the rider cruise at ease, the Sports mode makes you go insanely fast and the Rain mode allows you to gain control over wet and slippery roads.

The Dorsoduro has a combination of analog and digital instruments that receive the data over a CAN line which helps in the diagnostics and hence it is rightly named Matrix instrumentation. The instruments are ultra compact and stick to the bike’s persona (light weight and absolutely efficient) Even the LED tail light has been focused on. The backlight appears white in the analog area while it burns red in the digital area and the levels of brightness can be adjusted accordingly. The handle bars are also very efficient; Aprilia has fitted Dual Taper Anodized Aluminum Handle Bars that resemble those used in the racing super motards.

Although the Dorsoduro 750 isn’t officially available in India, the 2013, the bike costs about US $ 10,000/- (around Rs. 6 lakhs)

It would be a sure shot hit in India considering its power and features.

A sturdy bike with a steady brain and a lot more to look forward to than the previous models. Hoping for the 750 to make its appearance in India.

Most of us dream of owning super-cars and driving them around places. The trouble however, begins when the fuel runs out faster than the speed of the car and you might miss the old fuel efficient car that gave you the feeling of being a budget price 😉

Let’s cruise through reality and take a look at some of the most fuel efficient cars India has to offer ( at-least, you can gladly NOT spend all your salary on just fuel)

Let’s hope India gets more Fuel Efficient cars.

Another Reason for Girls [I’m assuming even Guys 🙂 ] to rejoice. TVS has announced the launch of its newest member in the Scooty family, The All new ZEST.

Scooty Zest review

Zestful by looks and playful by nature, the Scooty Zest is set to get winks on Indian roads in 2014. The peppy ranged Scooty is going to be packed with new features and not to forget, new and vibrant colors – making a great addition to your selfie 😉

The Scooty Zest is gonna to carry a 109.7cc Single cylinder Engine. The power can max out to 8 Bhp @ 7500 RPM, producing 8 NM torque @ 5500 RPM (cute enough). The auto transmission mated to the Scooty Zest’s engine, and a 4 stroke single cylinder (air cooled) and a carbureted engine would provide 51mm bore and a 43mm stroke. The Scooty Zest would also be quite fuel efficient and would provide competition in terms of pick up and riding comfort.

TVS claims that the ZEST would provide a mileage of 62 Kmpl. (much needed these days)

Hydraulic telescopic forks front suspension and a mono coil spring rear suspension would make the bumpy roads a bit more bearable, thereby ensuring a hassle free smooth ride.  The braking is of utmost concern and hence drum brakes have been installed in both front and rear of the Scooty Zest (although a front disk brake could have been impressive)

Owing to unsteady road conditions, TVS Scooty Zest would have 10 inch pressed steel wheels and the tire size would be 3.0X10 inches.

An all new white finished instrument panel would feature a classy analogue speedometer, a trip meter and a fuel gauge. This new scooterette with its makeup, looks better than the previous Scooty versions. TVS has redesigned the front apron of the Zest and the lamp design has also been changed. The headlight and the tail light looks chick friendly.

The albeit the chick friendly image is something the Scooty is known to carry. The technology and engineering has been a priority with the Scooty Zest. The appearance is exactly what a girly ride should look like. The stylish headlamp would have a 12 v, 35/35 W fixture to brighten up the road at night. The dash board has also been arranged specifically keeping uber chic features in mind and instruments such as the speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge have been given a contrasting look with the scooterette.

Scooty Zest review

Zest would have both electric start and manual (kick) starter. The handle bar also provides easy and simple handling without worrying about the slippery accelerator or the heavy handles. Scooty Zest would also have sufficient space in the front to hold small luggage. There would also be a solitary hook attached (just like in any typical scooter) to safely handle bags and such.

The Scooty Zest is in tune with the current trend and the side profile definitely speaks so. The usage of high quality plastic definitely adds glamour to the side profile. You can easily store a bit more luggage (make up kit etc 🙂 ) under the seat. The seating is exceptionally larger and more comfortable than the previous Scooty models. The rider wouldn’t have to worry about the leg space, as TVS has graciously increased the foot rest and the pillion foot rest too. The pillion foot rest has been raised a bit towards an uprising position for extra comfort.

The seats look a bit similar to the Wego and the exhaust unit shares similarity to that sound in the Jupiter Scooter. The lamps have been given a slender look rather than sticking on to the bulky look. The tail lamps would have LED fixtures instead of the normal bulbs.

With competition lurking in every corner, the TVS SCOOTY ZEST would compete hip to hip with Honda Activa, Honda Dio, Yamaha Ray, Mahindra Rodeo etc. TVS would really have to work its way up. Thankfully, TVS has a good reputation among the ladies and the Zest might succeed.

This stylish two wheeled beauty can be yours for Rs. 47,500*/-

The all new scooty Zest is allegedly more peppy in terms of design and features. However, the peppy and cute factor wont just do. With bigger and more aggressive competition increasing, TVS would have to strategically plan the advertising and branding of ZEST. The good part is that TVS is going to bring out the ZEST in various color shades.

Scooty Zest features review

The Zest had mixed reactions at the Auto expo, while some prefer the performance attributes and the easy to handle features of the Zest, others aren’t quite convinced with the looks. Its up to TVS to market this potential competitor differently to regain the girly pride that Scooty has always stood for.

British Luxury cars are always a feast to the eye and Aston Martin does a fine job. Being one of the most desired luxury cars and producing the most expensive car (one 77) in the world- the Aston Martin wins hearts on screen and in real life.

Although Aston martin is popularly known for its super and hyper cars such as the V12 Zagato and the One 77, we are going to discuss the more discreet saloon version of Aston martin named Lagonda.

Derived from the name Lagonda Marque, Aston martin had purchased the Lagonda Unit in 1947, which managed to produce 645 cars. Two versions of the Lagonda were created, a short-lived 1974 Aston Martin V8 saloon version and an ultra modern version in the year 1976.

Aston Martin Lagonda (1976-1989)
Aston Martin Lagonda (1976-1989)

Aston martin too had its downs, during the mid 1970’s Aston Marin was facing a financial break down and funds were a necessity.  The 2-door sports car producing company took a sudden move of producing 4-door saloon cars that were an instant hit. It not only gave the company a relief for its money problems, the 4 door saloon had certainly drawn attention and customers couldn’t say no to this saloon car.

William Towns, who adapted the “folded paper”, designed the Saloon Style then, ensured that design and aesthetics, be a big factor, and this unconventionally designed car just made things better for Aston Martin enthusiasts.  The combination was trendy and an opulent mix of style fabricated with plush leather interiors and the instrumentation was just commendable ( Although, performance had played spoil sport with the Lagonda ). The 3 speed “Torque Flite” auto transmission, 4- cam carbureted V8 wasn’t really an impressive bid. The mileage really took a toll on the driver; with under than a single digit mile per gallon, the Lagonda series 3 had faced issues.

Lagonda’s had a reputation of being among the most expensive saloon’s the world had to offer- with a hefty price tag and limited production. The direct alternatives to the Lagonda were, Rolls Royce Silver Spirit/Silver Spur and the Bentley Mulsanne.

Being the first ever car produced that was computer aided with digital instrumentation panel etc. was a massive success for Aston Martin. Computer technology being a mystery then, had the price advantage and hence the Lagonda’s price was 4 times as much as the budget of the saloon.

A couple of years later, the Lagonda faced more problems of being labeled among one of the top 50 ugliest cars of the last 5 decades and being tagged as one of the worst cars of all time (what a shame)

Aston Martin Lagonda is finally making a come back, as confirmed officially in 2014. The new Lagonda will be made available in the Middle East market and the sales are going to be restricted to an invitation basis. The super saloon would be made to order and thereby revive its lost reputation through the limited series Lagonda. Style and Elegance being a priority, this super luxury saloon would come with a limited edition badge.

Judging by its looks, the new Lagonda would definitely boast the company’s ethos and ensure that the Lagonda fits into the “Finest cars” category. With increasing demands in the Middle East, Aston martin has decided to give the market a shot with this limited edition roll out.

According to sources, the new Lagonda would carry an omnipotent 5935 cc, V12 engine carrying the power of 600 horses( :O ) and an upgraded 8 speed auto transmission, the car would be based largely on the VH platform as its cousin, the Rapide.

Being partially owner by Kuwait’s Investment Dar, Aston martin is definitely set to give another luxury boost to the Middle East.

Only 100 units of this hand built marvel are going to be produced at Gaydon (Warwickshire) just like its sporty cousin, the One-77. The Designer of Aston Martin Lagonda, Marek Reichman says, “The Debut of this super luxury saloon in the Middle East market will be an exciting moment not only for Aston martin, but for discerning customers who are seeking the ultimate in luxury and personalization”

Aston Martin Lagonda review

A truly fantastic comeback is what we can expect from Aston Martin. Being a limited Edition, the Price is also going to be the same. Aston Martin is quite serious about the production of these limited edition super luxury saloons, and Middle East being one of the most popular hub for super cars- the Lagonda is certainly not going to be disappointing.

NFS MOST WANTED, A gaming Revolution that changed Lives – Part 1

There was a time when we were introduced to super cars and we always wanted to experience the feel behind the wheel (Most of us still do).  Just the sound of a super car, on TV or our computer screens would make us wonder which car it could be. Well, I’ve been there, and I still do that.

Sadly, that one dream of driving a super car always gets away. The year was 2005, was when Electronic Arts had digitally made my wishes come true. So what if I couldn’t drive in person? my online alias could do my work for me. Rightly named Need For Speed Most Wanted, this game was indeed a legend (I still have it on my laptop)

After simulating most of our racing dreams, Electronic Arts had introduced 37 of the most popular cars (then) to this game. Everything seemed too good to be true, then again video games are supposed to keep you glued on to your screen right?

My intrepid guts took me on an all time high when I missed one of my major classroom test because, well the night prior to the test I was experiencing the best Most Wanted had to offer, 7-8 steady drag races followed by a major cop chase, followed by a whole night filled with @$#* (I hope you get it 😉 ) Although, I do not regret missing the boring test, I had to come to terms with the fact that it was a game and the digital world was too addictive.

Recently Electronic Arts had launched their newest series in the Need for Speed edition (there was a movie too) which had the latest speed demons introduced like the Bugatti Veyron etc. No matter how pretentious this game might seem, NFS Most Wanted still holds a very special place. Need For Speed has various series.

Let me drive you all through memory lanes, experience and the efficacy that we had experienced while playing the game. Lets take a look at the speed demons at their finest and the value they hold in real life.

Letssssss Go !!

The British luxury car Aston Martin DB 9 had also been used in the movie Johnny English-1. The DB9 has been a member of the Aston Martin family Since 2004 and is still being produced. Although the 5.9 litre V12 engine powered grand tourer coupé looks a tad different currently (face lift and a few more aesthetic changes) and a power boost in the year 2013.

See the Aston Martin in action :

The DB 9 produced 470 bhp @ 6000 RPM, did 0-100 in 4-6 roughly seconds. In the game, the Aston Martin DB 9 took longer to gain top speed because of its bulky body. In the game the DB9 costs $ 90,000 (which is nothing, because it’s a game after all) In real life, the DB9 costs $500K ( ie. 2.90-3.00 crore INR )

2. Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro

NFS had taught me the pronunciation of AUDI (I used to pronounce it as oddy)

I used to feel like the transporter while driving this car (silly right?) This German wonder that was produced from 2004 lasted till 2008 is sadly not in production anymore. The A4 3.2 quattro had a 3.2 Litre FSI V6 engine that produced 252 dhp @ 6500 RPM and went as fast as 250 Kms (per hr) This was the third fastest petrol car produced by Audi.

Hear the A4 3.2 FSI Quattro

Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro NFS

The cost of this car in the game was $ 35,000 and in real life, well it used to cost $60K ( ie. 36.12 lakh INR )

3. Audi A3 3.2 Quattro:

The A3 3.2 Quattro was lasted on the production belt from 2003-2005. This car had a 3.2 Litre VR6 engine and produced a decent 249 BHP @ 6300 RPM, attaining a maximum speed of 249 km/hr. After receiving a face-lift in 2005, the A3 3.2 Quattro was the second most powerful model in the A3 range of cars produced by Audi.

See the As 3.2 Quattro in action:

Soon, this car was replaced by the Audi RS3, this car costs $ 32000 in the game and in reality, the price was $70K ( ie.36.72 lakh INR  )

4. AUDI TT 3.2 Quattro:

The sports coupé model produced by Audi in 2004 was manufactured till the year 2006. The 3.2 Litre VR6 engine mated on to the TT 3.2 Quattro could reach a speed of 379 km/hr (after being modified in the game)

With a $35,000 price tag in the game, this car in reality as available for $110K ( ie. 54.59 lakh INR )

Let the TT stun you again:

5. BMW M3 GTR and the GTR (E46) version:

Once you start the game, you have your old companion, the BMW M3 GTR that has no rage as compared to the one you win during the end. Although, the BMW M3 GTR had capabilities of taking the rider real fast in the game, there were drawbacks with it, no matter how much the M3 was upgraded; it did not provide the most perfect handling especially during sudden turns and cop chases.

Since, this was a one of a kind car in the game, it wasn’t available for sale. However, in reality it would cost you 78 + Lakh Inr    . The M3R’s were produced till the year 2013.

Nothing beats the sound of the BMW M3R:

A sports saloon by nature and a real good car on roads (well at least in the game) This General Motors creation came a price of $ 32,000 and in reality, was available for $70K ( ie. 38 lakh INR – not considering import duties and other taxes here)

Being the first of its kind with manual transmission during the year 1988, this car could produce 255 BHP @ 6200 RPM (all thanks to its 3.6 Litre V6 LY7 engine) It could touch speeds of 246 Kmph.

Watch the Cadillac take you away:

A compact sport car by Chevrolet charged with a 2.0 litre LSJ 14 Engine was available in the game for $ 26,000 considerably one of the cheapest car in the game.

The Cobalt’s era started in the year 2005 and ended in 2007. It could produce 205 BHP @ 5600 RPM and fully modifying it would take you to a speed of 233 kmph.

Perhaps, the Cobalt should sound soothing:

CORVETTE was one of the finest looking vehicles in the game, classy by looks and definitely a game changer on roads. Released in the year 2005, the Covette had lasted till the year 2013 followed by the newly introduced C7 (2014). This omnipotent beast on wheels produced 400 bhp @ 6000 RPM and could touch the 300kmph mark when upgraded fully. Carrying a price tag of $ 80,000 in the game, the real life price crosses the $100K margin (ie. INR 50 lakh ).

A snake like feel and the aggression of a viper, the viper had certainly helped me defeat a few rivals.

Produced in the year 2003, the sports car labeled under the Dodge brand was a successor of the previous Viper GTS. The 8.0 Litre V10 engine definitely did not take a no for an answer on the streets.

Carrying a price tag of $ 88,000, this acceleration savvy ride made it so simple to attain a speed of 306 kmph. Although, excessive power under the hood would act up a bit during a crucial race and might tend to take the vehicle off track, In real life the SRT 10 crossed the $100K price margin (ie. 1 crore INR )

Cant miss out the Viper:

We’ve all seen the Punto on Indian roads; thankfully a few of us even own this car (that feeling of being in the Rock port city with your Punto would definitely soothe you)

Although, the Grande Punto sport being a bit different carried a 1.9 Liter 8V multi Jet I4 engine that produced 128 bhp @ 4000 RPM and reaching 200 kmph in the game, this car was in Fiat’s production line from the year 2005 till 2009.

The Grande Punto wasn’t one of the finest cars in the came considering the max-power producing machines were plenty in the game. The price of which in the game was $ 27,000 and in reality is $10K ( ie. 4.99 to 7.42 Lakh INR) affordable right?

One fine American Muscle Car is just what was needed to make the game even better. Mated with a 4.6 Litre V8 Modular engine, the Mustang GT could produce 300 BHP @ 6289 RPM and could reach a decent speed of 233 kmph in the game.

Being a flagship model of the mustang series, the mustang was introduced at the 2004 International Auto show in North America. It was being produced from the year 2005 to 2010. In the game, the price of the mustang was $ 36,000 while in reality, the price crosses the $80K mark (ie. INR 40 Lakh price tag )

12. FORD GT:

A supercharged vehicle with a supercharged will to win. The 5.4 Litre supercharged Modular V8 engine had the power of 550 horses under the hood. Producing a speed of 330kmph in the game, this car could produce 550 BHP at 6500 RPM. It was produced from the year 2003-2006 and was priced $ 2,70,000 in the game.

I’ll be right back after a short little break 🙂
